Looks like I'll hit the place on hwy 7.

I'm still floored at how nice the morning and evening commute has been since the shut down. I mean there's that many people working for the gov? Sheesh!

I've always noticed a big difference in the commute on holidays that I don't have off but I chalked it up to banks, courts, etc. also being closed. It now seems that the primary reduction is due to state employees.

I'm not a big Miller/Coors customer so the lack of inventory won't affect me but if the Surly Brewing license expires any time soon it will get my attention.

Maybe he was a little spooked by his scheduled Channel 11 appearance tonight and wanted to improve his image.

If the reported news is true, the bathrooms will be un-barricaded. Life is good in MN again....

I'm a big Coors customer, man I'll be PI$$ED if I can't get any. Latest word is that Miller/Coors will not pull product, or will try not too, but being that this region comprises some of their largest sales Miller/Coors is going to "lawyer up" as they say. Too bad they can't sue JUST the governor.
The stupid thing is, M/C sent in too big of check for there license or permit, wouldn't you think that Suzie license person would see that, maybe call over the supervisor and issue a refund right then and there??? I mean you can't tell me that with a click of a mouse that could all have been taken care of instantly. Well, it is the government, they couldn't make it that easy......
Actually it's hitting some bars as well. See, over here in Mn a bar has to have license to sell liquor but they also have to have a license to purchase liquor from a wholesaler. So those bars whose licenses are due are in deep weeds. Some are already closing.

The black hellicopter conspiracy theorists could say that the gov. chose this time frame to close up just so we the public would see just how badly we need the government.
Heck, at this stage of the game all it seems like the government is there for is to issue permits and licenses.

I think two things have been glaring at us in this shutdown.

1. Government has taken away the ability for common sense to prevail.
2. There is WAAAAAY too much regulation and control.

not real sure but it looks like all the tobacco tax will be saving the day...Tobacco Bond? really they try and SNUFF out smokers and BAM to the rescue with the tax money from it..........so it seems the tax money generated by smokers is a HUGE thing to the states...I remember some folks around here saying they will make that money up somewhere else........hmmmmmm

No Firecat, the $700M tobacco money is from future settlements to be paid to MN from tobacco companies. They will issue bonds (borrow the money) against the future payments.

Excerpt from NY Times

Under Mr. Dayton’s proposal, he would abandon his push to raise taxes on the highest-paid Minnesotans and would give up efforts to raise other taxes (like those on cigarettes) in order to bridge a budget deficit. Instead, Mr. Dayton said, he would accept Republican proposals to, in essence, shift funds around to create $1.4 billion more in revenue — the amount that stood between Mr. Dayton and the Republicans. About half would come from delaying state payments to local school systems, and the other half from borrowing money against expected future state revenue from the tobacco industry.

I don't know what it was earmarked for, but there was a $6B settlement (the Big Tobacco suit) settled in 1998.
