STOP means STOP-DNR to patrol Greenland area

Just got word from a reliable source that sledders are not stopping at stop signs at driveways etc. in the
Greenland area and that the DNR was planning to patrol for violators this weekend. This post is a caution
and not intended to protect the violators but if you are tempted to cruise through....take a few seconds
more, there aren't that many stop signs. Wherever we ride we need to be courteous crossing driveways
and observing signing on the trails. Have a great ride in our area and ride safe!!!!

Stop means stop threads have been brought up on this site before. Unfortunetly, there are lots of sledders who seem to think that stop signs mean, slow and go. Some people just need a ticket to learn a lesson.

Ironwood too, DNR sitting on each side of the old Depot maybe 100 yards apart from each other on Thursday. And the stop sign on Trail 2 by Wal Mart a few nights before.

They were sitting halfway between mercer and hurley on the grade this weekend. 2 of them a mile apart.

They got me a couple of years a go at the stop sign behind the casino in Christmas. 50 dollars worth, needless to say I always stop now. They were sititng in a car several feet back from the sign.

I always stop at road crossings, but get real people. I know 99% of you don't stop at every single stop sign you see on the trail. There are plenty of roads you can see the whole thing pulling up to it. I know you aren't going to come to a complete dead stop when you know it is safe to cross by coming to a slow couple mph and go...

Is that how you drive in your truck Indy? Like I said above, some people need a ticket to learn a lesson. I have seen over a dozen people do the slow and go at the stop signs right across M26 from Krupp's. I have also seen countless people blow the stop signs at the Parkview, heck, some people don' even look to see if their is a truck pulling in. Last year someone did a slow and go at the stop sign by Krupp's, they slid right into the DNR truck, luckily they did not get hurt.

Did they teach you inyour snowmobile safety course that slow and go's were ok?

Are you in that much of a hurry that you can't stop? When you get your ticket, do not come on here nd complain about it. :)

That's not how I drive my truck, no I do not blow stop signs, but 25% of stop signs, i do not come to a complete stop. I guess the difference between everyone is what their term "slow and go" is. Mine is come to a 2-5 mph slowdown, look both ways twice and keep on truckin... errr... i mean.. sleddin :) Some, think slowing down to 10-15 mph looking each way or not and going is acceptable. I'm not trying to open a can of worms, just claming that IMHO when people say they stop at each and every stop sign, I think they are blowing smoke whether it's 2-stroke smoke or 4-stroke smoke LOL

indy it makes no difference for peoples different ideas of slow and go. Rolling through at 2 mph is breaking the law just the same as rolling through at 10 mph. But I guess sometimes the best thing to happen is to get picked up once and then you will learn your lesson such as I did about 15 years ago. Safe riding to my fellow friends

Riding on closed trails is also breaking the law...

What about stop signs out in the middle of no where that you and I both know don't need to be there . I'm not stopping

It's simple. TRY to obey the signs or make up some bul#s%it story and tell it to the Judge. I know how it feels to be fleeced in small towns. That's how they raise their operating revenues. I don't stop at all of em' and I am embarresed to say that. But I keep my eyes open for the Feds. jmo.

if you do not stop all the way you can get a ticket. I honestly do not stop all the time. I think I should but have not trained myself. I wont complain if I get one because if I don't stop and am caught I deserve one.

Tell that to the landowner who is letting the trail cross his driveway, and wants the snowmobiler to stop, not yield.

How much should the fine be for going up a hill in a national forest , with a sign that says road closed ? $150
I thought the NF's were open to off trail except where it says no trespassing ? It wasn't even a road it was a snowmobile path.That is BS, from a " fereral officer " whom must be the owner of the forest. I thought the forest was for all to enjoy.
Yes... I was a bad snowmobilier... they can keep that up ticketing families and I won't support their community. He had " barney fife " with him but he was only a " state officer " .... Must be a huge difference. I never had a ticket for snowmobiling before. Oh yes " officer woodpecker " said he is going to have all the powerlines shut down next season in the Manistee national forest. The other comment he made is " he doesn't mind us pulling over on the side of the trail to stop & rest, must be his forest ?
They were writing tickets all day in Cadillac. Chasing us criminals with our kids down.....
I would respect a warning, not knowing better, but I guess I have to pay .
