Taking off hyfax/ sliders

I'm heading out to replace my hyfax. What is the best way to take off the old one's?
There is no way to get a hammer on the end to get them to start sliding off so I was going to pop a screwdriver in the side and try hammering them off from the side. Anyone have a
Good way of doing it?

I would spray them with something so maybe it will loosen them up a little. Just loosen the track and tilt on 1 side. Hammer away sometimes they come off easy and others times its a while. Just lube up good putting back on.

Get yourself a slide removal tool, which is basicly a slide hammer with a screw at the end which you attach to the back of slide then hammer it out. Or use a piece of brass or aluminum in the hole where the screw that holds the slide to the rails is located to get it started then on the face once you have enough room. The slide removal tool works the best from what I have found after years of replacing slides. Just make sure you put lots of anti sieze on slides before you put new ones on so they come off the next time. I have tried other lubricants but the antisieze worked best for me.

I loosen the track up then roll the sled onto the clutch side. I use a large flathead screw driver and hammer to force the slides out the back through a track hole. Once they are through the hole a few inches, I grab them with a pair of vice grips and pull them the rest of the way out. I install new ones through the track holes also. Like stated before, sometimes they come off real easy and other times they are a pain in the a**. Takes probably 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to complete this way if they come off easy.

Take a flat head screw driver and a rubber mallet. Lift the sled, place the flat head between a track window and pound (lightly) at the front of the slide. It will create some speration and then start working the slide backwards with the flat head until it sticks out between a window on the back of the track. Pull with a vise grip. Less then 1 min tops.

Maybe more work than what you're looking for, but I just pull the skid. I've never had any issues that way getting the sliders off, they pop right off with maybe only a little hammering to get them started. Makes it real easy to hit the zerk fittings on the skid, too.

On that topic of reaching zerks how is anyone able to reach the zerks in the front on a rev?
The ones in the front steering? I can not get the grease gun on them so I have not greased them, anyone have any ideas? If you own a Rev you know what I am talking about.

Two things to add...if you got reverse just get your old slides out the window and pop it in reverse and they come off like butter...second thing is on new slides I cut the ends to somewhat of a point, makes it easier to get them in and out of the windows in the track. Not mush of a point just "knock" the corners off.

Take the pipe out and turn the steering from one side to the other. If you turn the bars all the way to the right you can get to the right one and vise versa for the left. You will not get them without taking the pipe out. And i second pulling the skid to change slides. Its a great time to check all your bearings and check it over for bent or broken stuff. My sled is an 09 and i pull the skid every year. 4 bad bearings, A spring retainer bent to crap and changed slide. Never would have could the spring retainer with the skid in. Take the time to do it right now so you won't have to do it wrong on the side of the trail!!!

Take the suspension out? much much easier, and it's a good idea to check over things and replace bogey bearings.

You CAN reach them with the pipe in if you have the right tip on your grease gun and are somewhat of a contortionist...been there, done that. That being said, I concur that it's easier to just pull the pipe.

slides

like said above bevel both ends of the hyfax before installing the new ones .also take a file and take off the sharp edges of the slide rail ends .it may save you some grief installing them .like said lube the rails and the hyfax .good luck .

This process works great for me to, but I dont roll on to side. I put sleds on a sled lift that raises the machine up to a nice working level. I soak the old slides down with WD40 or similar product and let soak in for lil while. This will help the old ones come off easier. Soak down the new one to prior to install.

A bit of dish soap in the channel helps the new hyfax slide right on.

I have also used the reverse trip to get them off...works slick.

Thanks for all the input, Trimming the new ones to make them fit was a good pointer, I do have reverse and will try that trick next time. I did get them out but it took me about two hours mainly because it took awhile to get them through the window of the track and the packers were playing Atlanta on the tv in the garage!
