Can I get the facebook hook-up for this??? This whole conversation needs to be reposted everywhere it can. Speaking of which, while I was reading these I wished there was a "LIKE" button, 'cause it rang so true.

just tossing this out . if u feel like the club u are is is not doing what it should to keep trails open establish new trails or willing to listen to u and actually attempt to use good ideas etc etc Quit start your own . not that hard . the club I am now in was started because we were loosing more trail than we had when I started u could not even get from 1 side of town to the next. no one wanted to do anything about it. it was the oh well urban sprawl what can u do.
well I tell u what u do u tell the old guard to stick it have fun on there boat trips and Christmas party's. start your own club with guys wanting to get stuff done.
u start to reestablish trails talk with land owners very soon people start to notice and come help . guys from other clubs show up saying they got wind cuz the old guard were lightly mocking about good luck to em on that deal.
soon u have reestablished links opened more new or reestablished closed .
thing is if u are in a club that wont listen to Ideas or treat u like nothing but a body move on because they are on there way out any way if they see it or not .

Have your clubs membership form on PDF or some other downloadable form. Take PayPal or something along those lines. Nobody under 30 does snail Mail or owns a check book. You want members, make it easy to join for the younger folks. Put your club on FB and or Instagram.

this is true not even just the under 30 . a lot of guys want to join and really have no time to show
we do it like this and works well we charge a 2 buck fee to cover the fee we get this is our page for online trail warriors

This is very true and may help if you ask social club or trail club before you join. The trail work gets done in either case but social club more interested in next dinner out where trail club is more interested in trail issues and trail work. Once you have your club focus of what you want from a club you will be better accepted. Just saying as I'm in an area where there are many clubs and all different.

WD - what club do you think is best to support in your area? We often ride out of a relative's place which is halfway between Eagle River and Phelps, which I think is close to you.

Depends on what you want? Eagle River has the most miles of trail to maintain Phelps has 40 miles Lando has 35 but lots more traffic than Phelps. Conover is your tweener between ER Phelps and Lando. I don't know much about Conover. Phelps is a social club and very old group, Lando is a trail club small group of local 40 something biz people that work very hard on trails and promote snowmobiling via radar runs and helps out at the sled dog races. ER totally involved in snowmobiling an World Championship racing. St Germain is the largest club in WI and very well organized and has an offshoot group of riders called the Apple Dumpling Gang that pools money and ride mostly in Vilas. 3 lakes is a good club too has many miles of trail to groom and does a good thing by dividing club rides by riding ability. Since you live in IN you prolly just want to join for trail pass. Phelps will only allow club members to ride on club rides.... not sure why?... but old school. All the other clubs allow guest riders. ER and Lando could use the money the most don't know about Conover. As I said before all clubs are different but IMO Lando could use the money the most had lots of groomer repairs last year and would welcome non club members to ride on club rides which might be beneficial for you.

also not sure how some of the other states do it .
in MN U become a member of MNUSA when joining a club that is the first $20
the club U are joining has a fee call it $5 bucks
that club has a larger aria club say north west trails or south west trails etc etc call that $5 bucks .
so u give your $30 to first club for the yr U are covered in all 3.

now u want to join a club in your aria just to support them if they are in your aria like North west trails U have already given that $5 bucks so u only have to give them there 5 bucks to be a member and help them out in a small way .
now U want to join a club in a diff map zone
U have already kicked down your $20 to MNUSA the main club
so u have to pay the $5 for southwest trails (diff map aria )and the $5 for there club .
think I am in like 5 or 6 cant even remember but only active in 1
1 more thing for u MN guys
Did U know when U are a member in MNUSA U have a 3g life inc policy ? well U would if u were a member. go out and find some place else to give u a 3g life policy for 20bucks a yr . and has a lobbyist working for your rights to ride and a subscription to a sled rag to name just a few . need more reason ? back to top and re read.
If u can afford a sled U can afford to be part of the community making it possible to use your 15k toy

Yeah I agree should be that way once you join AWSC in WI...Phelps Club is not they don't care how many clubs you join full boat $30 then you pay $10 per sled for trail pass thru AWSC and only has family memberships should be less when joining multiple clubs 2nd & 3rd+ no mag no AWSC fee so some Clubs keeping all the dough in some multiple membership cases. Other Clubs in Vilas just want dues for multiple Club memberships and don't double dip for AWSC charge & correct way to do it in my mind. Like I keep saying all Clubs are different so need to qualify if you really want to be active and part of a snowmobile club and right fit for you. I don't know but was wondering if AWSC knows what goes on in some Clubs or know it is so different from Club to Club? They bear AWSC association so I was thinking some money collections should be uniform state wide. Just 1 of my brain wanderings then my head hurts & too large of a task to change in some cases and does anybody really care? LOL

Where would my money be better served?.......
I keep my snowmobiles at our lakehouse - 2 hours from home.
There are a few clubs within an hours drive from the lakehouse, the closest is 30 minutes.
Would my money be better served at the local clubs, which I would not be able to attend their weekday meetings, and difficult to volunteer time (I believe you need to attend meetings for volunteer safety training)
or join the MSA?
We currently try to visit the local clubs when they are doing weekend stuff, like breakfasts, and give some to the donation can.

Thanks for you input.

Phelps is a "social club", we are all great friends and out to have a good time! As far as being a "very old group", it is hard to get the younger people involved. We had our trail brushing day and the ages ranged from 8 to 70's, good turn out with a lot of work for ONLY 40 miles of trails! Our rides are open to ANYONE, club member or not. We meet Tuesdays across from the Post Office at 9am and head to a place for lunch (one of our advertisers on our map) and back to Phelps! The ONLY ride closed to members only is our 3 day overnight trip, because it fills up all the time!! If you do not belong or do not get involved with a club, then there is no reason to complain!

Glad to hear Phelps Club rides are open to guests now...last year I was told members only for weekly rides... seemed odd to me at the time. Yeah I don't know the answer to get the younger folks involved and agree everyone should join or at least try out a snowmobile club and join multiple clubs spread the money to where you ride. Soooo many Clubs in Vilas plenty of choices and all different.

My opinion is any club nearest to where you do the most amount of riding. If you can't help (for whatever reason) you can't help. Not everybody can! Supporting the club by doing the things you mention is a GREAT way to contribute. The cost of putting in, maintaining trails, then taking them out is huge! Money donations are always appreciated and can be used to make the process easier! The club I groom for used the proceeds from yearly fundraisers to buy a SxS this past summer. It has already seen a tremendous amount of use including by yours truly.

This was made possible by not only club memberships, but by "out of towners" buying our raffle tickets! Thanks to all that contribute in ANY way they can!

I would think you can join ER Club online. Trail pass easy on line thru AWSC but need a membership number from Eagles. AWSC trail pass was a bit slower to receive this year so don't wait to last minute but you can ride on paper print out but I just don't lke being stopped if not displayed so get mine early. Both MI & WI permits on my sled good to go!
