the Polaris 5 rule

....another reason i decided to expand my horizons was when i would hop on the wifes 07 rev 550f....i was having fun! I dont know. Something about a lighter smaller motor. More nimble and playful i guess. I wont ever go back to an apex. They are great high quality machines though. They have their purpose. The new owner loves the sled! So i say go with your gut. Dont be afraid to make a chang from what youve always known. Just learn about the machine. How to maintain it, things to look out for, give it lots of tlc! I think a renegade 800 etec would be perfect if the motors and cranks were a little more reliable. I think the etecs have crank seal issues?? Not certain on that but i personally know of a few that was the issue. I think the rmotion is a pretty awesome design. I personally would love to see yamaha come out with a sdi 2 stroke and drop it in a rmotion chassis. Or even a pro ride chassis. Yamaha will never do that ofcourse but id be on onboard for sure. Yamaha 2s triples were bullet proof! Wonder what cats new 2s engine will be like or is like? Pretty sure i will never own a cat.

Agree. Where I ride there are ten Poos to one of something else. The shear volume of them out there says a lot. Seen hundreds of newer ones this past weekend. None being towed. I have 3600 trouble free miles on my 12 Rmk Pro.

56% of the Sleds built on Planet Earth are built by BRP, so I don't know where your getting out of Bed in the morning.

3600 miles is hardly broke in. My lowest mileage Sled has over 5000 miles and its only used 8 Qts of Oil, 2 Filters and 1 Belt

Key word longtrack is where I ride. Polarisrider1 didn't say on planet earth. If you come to the U.P. you see a lot of Yamaha's. It's not uncommon to see more of one make than the other depending on where you are. It's not uncommon also to have 56% of the sleds when you produce more sleds than the competition. Now of course BRP makes a great product so that's part of it. Going past a good amount of Doo dealers there are a lot of crates!

I can only speak for our dealer in northern Wisc, but he sold every single new doo he had and every single used doo he had. Only sled left on the floor was a sled being raffled.

I have noticed some areas tho are all doo, some all yamaha, and then the mixtures. What a good year to be a snowmobiler in the midwest

I would like to see where you get this information, the sled manufacturers don't report the numbers and last year the estimates that I saw were Ski Doo in the low 30's, Polaris around 30%, with AC in the 20's and Yamaha in the teens, you can add Lynx to the BRP's but that does not help much, these were worldwide estimates, another thing that I here all the time is how big BRP is, I believe they are a smaller company than Polaris, they split off from Bombardier years ago.

In the last american snowmobiler I read doo was 38%

The further you get from the rental dealers the fewer ski-doos you see...then the trusted and owned sleds like yamaha take over in numbers.

I wouldn't ride any Yamaha in 3' of powder for more than like 10 minutes. Crossover sleds just don't cut it when in the deep, add some steep and they plain suck. Typical crossover sled is good for logging roads with some powder and not so steep and deep, good for trail. 3 ft powder expect crossover sleds to suffer compared to long tracks. Viper will outperform Nytro IMO, cat chassis superior to Nytro chassis and with 135 hp motor, viper is a milestone for 4s performance. It's all about evolution and where we go from here,,who knows but somehow we'll get there.

You can ride 140'ish in backwoods but compared to 155+, you'll wonder why you bother, working so hard for less gain and fun. Byrn71 had a 800 xfire and rode the heck out of it but than he got a pro and whole different ballgame. I understand we are not talking about pro's here but vector is a hybrid trail sled IMO and a tank is right, has no place in the deep

I do not know what type of riding POLARISDAN does but based on his love the 800 Pro I was thinking mainly off trail. NFW do I want a Viper long track anything for the deep stuff. To me a Viper is nothing more than a Vector in a different chassis. A few more ponies??...I question who can really tell the difference?

on trail for now..till I learn where to go and how to do it..so that's why the 800 assault would be ok becuz it wouldn't get the hard and fast trail miles I do now..and of course if I ever got good at it(and met people who could pull me out..the rmk 800..but the trail sleds for me are the question..lots of good responses..think I need to definitely test drive some sleds till poo figures out these meltdowns..just found out full investigation by poo for warranty..which is fine..i use their oil only..

plus just the week before I had kip do a midwinter full check..so I definitely did my part for maintenance

Id take a doo 4s anywhere anytime with a yama 4s.

Easy to say when yama doesnt even make a 2s, the only one I owned was a banshee and that sucker couldnt get out oof the garage without a new set of pistons.

Trail only? Then Doo Renegade w/1200 4S or Vector LTX (two totally different sleds IMO - depends on what feels best). Viper LTX (whatever is long track designation) would be in the mix but wait till 2015 and hopefully all the gremlins are gone.

I agree about not riding a 144 viper off trail unless on flater stuff where you could have some fun on it. I was correct in my assumption Poodan was mainly a trail rider and that is why I suggested a viper because the cat chassis ricks and the Yam motor rocks. I think of the viper as a vector on steroids,,,,lol
