Your son's are rather perceptive. I wonder what percentage of people routinely ride "off trail"? 5%?

The thing that makes it all look good now, is this thread originally started out in the "Snowfall Reports" and was later moved to "Miscellaneous".
No big deal either way.

Huh?
First saw it here and thought your post was saying that misc. was the wrong forum for his thread.

IMO its posts like yours that makes people want to turn the channel not the ones your firing at

im not so sure stevo..think about it..i post like i text..and if i got corrected id probably reduce my posting..and the caps were way overboard..culda been simple like..try and keep conditions in conditions for example..

no...my stuff is always fun stuff....look at my posts...I post pics of sledding...I post films....vids....try to have fun with bigfoot threads.....and I am not digging the guys...I am pointing out the fact that you didn't need to post that above....just suck it up sometimes and bite your lip when your wrong...show someone young this....they will tell you I am correct.....let them read this whole thing...and then let them speak...and listen to them...this is a complaining thread right? and I was giving you an alternative....now whether you take it or not is another matter....I certainly don't come on here and correct anyone about where the thread was put....or how I spelled the sentence.....or like above....I said maybe this is why....and its not firing anything dude...its called CONVERSATION

and ill give u kudos for the vids and stuff..we need that here to keep it interesting since nobody wants to fight anymore:)

This site, for better or worse, is real cliquey. I am sure it doesnt take new people long to see that and get turned off.

no i dont think so..the cliques are actually the early guys who either new each other or met thru the site with john..there are plenty of newer guys(3 years i think) like me who have met and ridden with a bunch of guys from here..then we become kinda of a click..i guess..on the site

Because this is now out there, I'll share a story I had with my 3 sons a week ago...... I asked them If they saw the post on JD "4 users" they said no...so I explained the post.... they said no kidding, I asked why... they said the site has been hijacked and its to cliquey ..... they are 17, 22, and 26.......they said if your not a "off trail" back country UP rider, they feel not welcome.

Don't shoot me, I am just sharing..............Hope it snows soon, weather looking better for winter.

hahahaha..thats my thread..

For some reason, people have a really hard time with posting in Snowfall Reports. It's pretty clear that there should be one post per date and all snowfall totals go under that date.

shelby369, I hope you explained to your kids that when there were 4 users, it was at 1:34 a.m. as John pointed out in that thread.

Its kind of interesting but if you actually get out and ride and meet some fellow JD'ers you'll find most of them are a really good time. May not agree with what they post or how they post it but that's OK. Too much gets lost in online posts regarding intent, attitude, etc.... There are "cliq's" but thats fine, no one should get all upset about reading online open forum ideas. I personally enjoy off trail posts and such as I only basically ride on trail, i think its an interesting read.
Soooo, its getting time to ride with PolarisDan, SLimcake, mspease, etc... that I have met on the way. Ride on!

Pretty much yep. Outsiders see members here post on any thread that they think they have something meaningful to say when in reality they have no clue. It's easy and quick to see through this. This is what I hear from others....it's not my opinion.

Yeah JD very good for trail reports and conditions and it would be a bad thing if members stop posting trail conditions. Not every rider thinks conditions are the same but I'm aok with that since conditions can change quickly with heavy traffic. I ride mostly on weekdays so conditions hold up well and worth posting and we cover lots of trail miles. Weekends just too busy for conditions to hold up all day or days...just the way it is on popular trails. But if a member asks they will get multiple condition reports. Lurkers jump in if you want...ask questions ...offer opinions as JD has always been wide open for discussions. I don't know why there seem to be less conversation topics here but I do see the drop off.

It makes me sad that there is a meaningful amount of persons that feel this board is cliquey. My main concern is that folks will think that I am OK with this. That could not be further from the truth. I have the rules well laid out and my attempt with them was to create as friendly and respectable environment as possible. I do realize that there are conflicts that arise and differences of opinion, but I have always viewed that as how the world works. I know that I have never tried to give the impression that I am better than anyone else or above anyone else or that they are not welcomed to be my friend.

When I was a child and sick, I lost all my hair, turned bone thin and all the other fun stuff that chemo/radiation therapy brings. There were a lot of times that I felt like I was not part of the classroom or even school. More of an outsider. So I learned to just ignore anything I viewed as a clique. I did my thing and was friends with those that were kind to me and things turned out just fine.

It is my hope that:
1) Folks will differentiate between this DISCUSSION BOARD, which I have very little to do with its content and THE SITE, which I basically have everything to do with its content. The board is just a part of the site and not even a very big one. Case in point, the traffic to the site jumped by 5-6 times on Friday from where it had been running, yet the board traffic was way down until later that day. I have the rules setup for the board and try to enforce them to the best of my ability.
2) Folks that feel the need to correct others will do so in an obviously friendly manner. A problem with fourms like this is that the true spirit behind the post can get misunderstood.
3) Those that do feel like they are not welcomed will change that feeling and those that feel like they are getting picked on will just rise above it and let it be. There are those that I suspect post to the board just to ruffle feathers or get attention. I do not operate that way, but I also do not let it get to me. Silence is not a form of submission, it is the ultimate act of control.

I really do not know how to change the vibe of the board, but hopefully this post will resonate with some and help to at least get the ship turning towards the right direction.

December 1 UPMI December 12th for Vilas. Smaller lakes in Vilas starting to freeze over progress is good as of Nov 19th. JD forecast looks good for December and as always we will have early season trail conditions. Plenty of options for good early conditions , FRs, lakes just need to make the best of it and have fun doing it.

This site has always been open and I have been here along time. JMO but go ahead and post ......To all state your view ,ask your questions follow the rules and don't get moody if some one disagrees with you just talk it out. JD has always been open and safe for kids too we watched Indy 500 go from what a 12 year boy to a young working man with a passion for sleddin and he has gone from trail rider to off trail ....good for him. Prolly more trail riders on JD than off trail but who cares?... I like to hear from both & do both. Jump in and participate this site needs and has room for all.:)

Hello to all! This is my first post, but have been a JD follower since the site began. I'm looking forward to contributing to the discussions here and I have 3 boys under the age of 16 whom I'm confident will also be involved for many years to come. I had to post after John came on with a well delivered appeal to reason. I am optimistic that this will be a great riding season and hope to share some reports/experiences as I continue my quest to cultivate the next generation of riders and enthusiasts for our sport that everyone on this board has a great passion for. Hope to see folks on the trails (or off trail!). Cheers to all!

Well, looks like I started a little bit of some pent up feelings and attitudes here!

I really just wanted to get your take on how this winter was shaping up. Hopefully you all got what you needed off your chests and we can get back to business! (And that business is snowmobiling and how much fun we all have doing it!)

For those of you blessed to live in the Northwoods, UP, MN, how about some intel on what's going on with the freeze/snow up there? Do you think we will have the same conditions (2) years ago, or do you think things are freezing up nicely and we should be in good shape?

Whitedust, I have some serious garage envy. Can't wait to see it completed and full of toys.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all, I hope everyone actually pauses for a moment to be thankful for all that we do have!

That garage is slimcake's not mine. This is how JD works....Slimcake & I met at Pat's a little while ago ...very nice guy and we had lots to talk about in person.. lol...Soooo many nice and generous people on here that I have become friends and ride regularly with some. Reaching out like Polarisdan does pays off big time .....me & Dan have had the same type of transitions with Clubs & riding buddies. JD Ride Board works or some peeps just PM you here and ask to hook up. I like to meet new guys and gals if possible have burger and beer first make sure riding styles are compatiable so someone does not get in over their heads with me and Venturenorth on a big mile day adventure. All about planning and knowing level of riding skills and having the type of sled tech that can hang together.
