I just bought a new Polaris 600 piston and it was about $200 but that included next day shipping.

depends on sled and what the jug looks like .
top end on most sleds can be done by most any one that can use a wrench in less than 3hr.
most dealers charge about a grand for top end jobs. got to keep the lights on

at 11k miles if the cylinders aren't ruined id get an SPI piston kit hone the cylinders and run it until the crank goes.

Wow! Glad I had friend help me on this last month. 168$ for a top end rebuild kit with pistons and crank seals, new H2O pump belt, misc clamps and hoses, coolant, pizza, and a couch to crash on kept me right around 200 bucks. Even at 7800 miles both pistons looked great when we pulled them 99 700 xc.

And I bet you bought cheap pistons, and never checked the cylinder clearances.
