I found a broken down 1980 toro 2 stage with B&S motor. I fixed the thing and it runs and operates very good. Starts easy and blows it far

Cuzz'nO check out the Cub Cadets at Novotny in Johnsburg. I bought the 524 ($900 otd) last year and it handled every snow we had last year NFP even after I got back from ride'n snowmachin's.... Also it handles the large areas and is still small enuff to handle the small area stuff wit the zero steer and joystick chute... As a bonus they also sell Arctic Carp snowmachines and castle gear...

Okay...so let's narrow this down a bit.

First of all you need something with electric start so the main squeeze doesn't start squeezing the neighbor kid who would be necessary to get the thing started if manually started...the snow machine that is!

Next you need a headlight or you will be removing the mailbox with the snow, and

Thirdly if you buy a John Deere, you are simply buying a GREEN simplicity, right??

Since you live in Illinoisy, where the snow usually melts the next day anyways, you need something that starts easy, or it will be melted before you get out to move it.

Then you need to remember that for this thing to last long enough to be handed down to your grand kids, you need to run it out of gas in the spring and NOT let the gas sit in there all summer long, or it won't start, and your main squeeze will be still in need of the neighbor kid to get it started...the snow machine that is.

Finally buy a machine that has very few moving parts...that way you won't need to care if the engine maker is still in business because, most electric snow shovels, don't have motors, gasoline, oil, or tires to go flat. This will be noted in the local papers, get picked up by the national news, and since it is environmentally friendly, you will be awarded the nobel piece prize for not gettin into with with the main squeeze who would otherwise be movin in with the neighbor kid who was moving more than snow around..

Do I have this all about right, or did I forget somethin??

At home we like to run a 84" Farm King snowblower on the back of a John Deere 9400T, that works real good.

Boondocker - Hopefully it happens this winter before we're married in the summer of 2010.

I think I'm good to go. I've looked at all the major brands and stores in the area. I'm hitting up Simplicity by this weekend.

John Deere, Simplicity, Snapper, and White are all the same. Just different paint. As is Murray, Craftsman, and Cub Cadet.

If I just had a regular city lot with a not so long driveway (Mine is 300 feet long) I'd have one of those Toro Power curve blower's. Bulletproof!

cuzzinolaf, Is your drive cement, blacktop or stone and how long? Like t660redrocket said the Toro power curve is awesome if don't have stone, very easy to use

NO---Murray is owned by Briggs, which owns Simplicity. The Simplicity, Snapper, and John Deere are pretty much the same. The Murray snowblower-- motor is the same, but the auger, gear boxes and drives are different. The Craftsman, Whites, and Cubs are made by MTD.

As far as Toro, lots of plastic to bust when it is -20 outside, or does it not get that cold in IL.? Do you want a snowblower or a toy?

Magie you shuld know better than that. Plastic is everywhere. Plastic skis, suspensions and hoods on snowmobiles, plastic bumpers and fenders on cars. The right plastic used in the right places is a good thing. The Toro Power clear comes with a 2 year FULL Warranty. Everyone else is limited warranty. I'm not sure why I'm so interested in this topic because I really don't care that much. I must be lonely today! LOL!

Me too, I could care less what he buys. I myself, because I work on them also know what is good and what is not. Good luck.

My Toro is all metal, except the little shoot adjuster on the end, like I said before my Toro has served me well for over 13 years

Magie - Can you describe how the Easy Turn works? Is it like Nascar and I can make left hand turns? I was told it can go both directions but it looks like you have to swap the pins?
