Those are important life altering decisions, lol. It snows half a dozen times a year in Illinois. Has anyone told you the unit they bought was a piece of •••••? Save your money and buy one from Menards/Home Depot. It will last you decades with the amount of use you are going to give it. Just my opinion. Oh, do you ever work?

OK, so I can get a Craftsman for $650 that is good or a Simplicity for $250 more that will supposedly last much longer. This is my dilemma. Just a little more gets a much better quality machine. Or the Ariens for $150 more.

All you have heard is good things about the Ariens and they are priced decent. Don't they sell those at Home Depot? Problem solved, decision made, go for it. Now if we can just get Dave to make a decision and buy a darn sled.

I have a long drive, aprox 250 ft and it is uphill to the house. I have worked my Craftsman hard for the past 7 years and have only broken the PTO cable once and that was probably due to me adjusting it too tight. Used it one time in over 15" of fresh snow with no problems. Simple maintenance every year before I use it and when done in the spring is all I have done, and I change the oil every other year.

No regrets at all with the Craftsman. I have gotten my return on it by now, anything else is icing on the cake.

The only regret I have is I did not get one with a headlight, it gets real dark way down by the mailbox at night when clearing the drive after I get home from work.

Cuzz, I recomend a nice shovel from whoever has them on sale. It will keep the fiancee taunt. Gets her out of the house longer. If you do buy her a snow thrower you better get electric start. You don't need the neighbor guy starting the thing for her while we are out riding. Andy how about that new trailer idea? Remember if you replace a sled get the same color so she don't know. lol.

I finally pulled the trigger on the trailer this spring and yes IF there is a new sled in my future it will be orange. Maybe could get away with red. It is easier just to avoid the argument with the wife. She does not understand the obsession.

when you are out riding the best thing you can do is pay a guy to plow for you!when I was still blowing my own snow.I left town and sure ship we got dumped on for 4 days and the blower would not start.I still get BS for that.

First of all being a Simplicity dealer I can set alot of the stories straight. The only two to buy are Simplicity or a Ariens, the other ones are pretty much throw away models, (good luck taking them to a dealer to get any service work also). Be careful buying the Ariens though, because up until this year they all come with Tecumseh engines who are no longer in business. All the Simplicity's come with electric start. The best unit for your dollar is the L1226E model---$1099.00 This unit is warr. for two years and something you will have for 30 years. As far as John Deere take a look at the Simplicity and then take a look at the John Deere. (Guess what?)

The John Deere isn't the same as any of the others I looked at. Are you saying it is the same as the Simplicity? Price is about the same. Some features are the same. Sell it out for me LOL.

My ariens is around a 1975 model, I have it since around 1990, Besides replacing the belt once and a shear pin or two, and a recoil for the pullstart it's been trouble free. I always drain the gas tank and the carb every spring and every fall just add gas and go. Only downside on mine it is only a 4hp 21 inch, it does the jobs just takes a little longer to get it done.

Simplicity is a little nicer. The orange light you can see alot better. And the turn spout is electric. Both nice

Magie03 - Since you're a dealer, can you give a quick translation of the new ft-lb ratings back to the previously hp ratings? I'm sure the engines didn't change, just the labels. Until we all get used to the new ratings, it makes it kind of hard to make comparisons. CC's, ft-lbs...pretty easy to compare hp, even if the EPA messed things up. Thanks.

Magie - They offer a John Deere and a Simplicity without the electric spout. That is one feature I don't want. I really don't care about the light at my current house but can see it being handy when I buy again. I did like a lot of things about the Deere. Are they basically the same machine? The pics and features make me think so. It is going to be a bit of a chore to get to the Simplicity dealer near me so this is why I'm asking.
