it's currently raining....the lakes are a mess...solid ice, but lots of water and slush on top...wet heavy snow will make it really slushy out there...Winter Storm Warning for late today, into tomorrow...I guess we'll see what happensWe had 44 and sun today, melted a lot of snow, it rained for awhile as well tonight. Just that time of year.
From the Frosty Club in Land O' Lakes on Travel Wisconsin website:It would be nice to get some definitive answers today about what these clubs/counties decide to open/close/groom...By Mon/Tues it's all over with the 50* temps...Obviously the U.P. is open for business, and the recent facebook pics from the Gogebic area look pristine and groomed to perfection...Patiently Waiting...Until I get impatient and just head for the U.P. $$$$$$$$$$$...
Update...UP#1 trail...Between Marinesco and Bergland...(West side of Lk Gogebic) is CLOSED for the remainder of the season due to logging...

Heading up to the Keweenaw Friday morning! Plan subject to change, but thinking of doing the Mass, Rousseau, Sidnaw, Alston, twin lakes loop on Friday, and then riding north of the bridge on Saturday. Staying in Houghton, my 30th bday weekend! Haven’t ridden north of the bridge in 5 years and really wanted to check that off the list this year. We are bringing the woman’s new 24 blizzard up but just for a shakedown ride and/or backup. She wants/needs a few things set up on it for her yet, no need to put it to work right away. I just put new rollers and secondary spring in her 19, so hopefully that works smooth as well.So when are you leaving Indy?
Very nice Indy. Perhaps I will see you out there as it looks like a miracle have happened and my sled may finally be ready to pick up. If Vilas opens which it is looking like a possibility I may just ride there. If not I will be in the U.P somewhere. I want to make sure the sled actually works. Unfortunately getting " definitive answers" is difficult to do....too many trees down, and lots of slush, and puddles on the lakes...its a mess..one area is fine another looks like a bomb went off...by the time we'd get everything cleared it might be too late. While getting a wet heavy snowfall can be a blessing for us sleds heads, it can also suck for the clubs..especially when you mix in 45 mph winds..some sections look like a Tornado went through...there is no word on oneida county because clubs have spent all day inspecting trails and cutting trees....its not looking good...id head further north to ride.It would be nice to get some definitive answers today about what these clubs/counties decide to open/close/groom...By Mon/Tues it's all over with the 50* temps...Obviously the U.P. is open for business, and the recent facebook pics from the Gogebic area look pristine and groomed to perfection...Patiently Waiting...Until I get impatient and just head for the U.P. $$$$$$$$$$$...

It will be over starting Monday, temps in the 40’s all week.Is it really worth it when it’s going to be 50 Monday? Guess trails would need to get brushed either way..I pulled my signs on my trail section last week…not worth the effort at this point of the season. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s even worth it at all sometimes as we haven’t been open in over 2 years now here in Eau Claire county. Counties I grew up riding were only open for a couple weeks (Price/Oneida)..not a great season but better than last. Somehow got 1300 miles on most all in da UP..
what a view! It’s the start of a quiet time of the year up here. If they have the business’s a couple more days I’m sure they would appreciate it. So, it’s worth it to some, not that important to others, it’s the end of the season, and yes, it was way better than last year. This morning looked like a typical January morning, not March.
