Vilas County

Having a county as large as Vilas it doesn’t make a lot of sense that all 13 or so clubs must consent to either open or keep the trails closed. I think we all know why and who determined why they opened when they did this year. Just saying……..

Looks like the snow eagles went out and groomed last night and cleared some trees. The one trail doesn't look too bad that they posted. I wouldn't doubt there is still some on riding out there but there is also a lot of really bad to go with it.

I saw some sleds up at Bent's camp. The trails don't look terrible up by Land o. From what the sno- bunnies are saying it does look like Vilas could open back up without a full inspection Screenshot_20250301-132926.png

Looks like some decent snow brewing for Tuesday night Wednesday. 8-9” of snow, the heavy wet variety followed by colder weather could open them back up in Vilas. 🤔

We are finally going to get a heavy wet snow now that it won't last long. Maybe they will open the trails for one more weekend if this happens. I think they know the businesses could use it we shall see.

Has to be the strangest closing time I have seen to close a trail system. At this point might as well close them tomorrow at 6 am. I can't imagine saying the heck with let's go grab lunch on the sleds and then realizing after you ate you can't ride back because trails closed while you ate. Does look like some people were out riding in land o yesterday.

Seeing the same thing. Most years you can count on riding the Kee until the end of March. Gogebic area maybe mid March and anything past the 1st weekend in March in Vilas is a bonus.

Used to be able to ride the 3rd week in March every year in the Yoop. My sons spring break while at Ia. State was always the 3rd week in March, and we rode every year. :)

Surprisely I saw more sleds in Conover than Lando yesterday and the straight grade east of 45 & north of K has had that section closed for approx a week now.

My wife works for a oral surgeon and she closes about 4 to 5 weeks every year. My wife only gets 2 weeks of vacation every year, so we kind of try to plan things around when the office is closed which doesn't work the best to ride. They always close the last week of March. We have been able to ride every year including last year thanks to a miracle snow that hit. I will have to say this is not looking good for that to happen this year based on the weather and still no sled. I am not saying it's always excellent trails but we normally find some pretty decent riding and there is normally no one out riding. We may see a few sleds but overall it's like having your own trail system. The 22-23 season The last week of March was incredible. The good thing about the yoop seems like most places stay open and don't close down at least not in March.

How did the trails look? I did see Eagle river went out and groom and cleared trees that fell.

I have ridden across the Huron Mountains and signed the guestbook @ Mt Arvon as late as the 3rd week in March on a few occasions over the years...Each time I was up there they still had 5'+ of snow in the bush...

Long Range Forecast...Looks Like the Party Ends on 3/9/25 for Good...
I think you are right but that’s pretty normal, another low snow year up here, so sun will take care of any new snow we get pretty quickly.

From a distance they looked all white, but we only got about an inch and it was very wind blown. So under that light snowcover was all the brown ice and dirt spots from the preceding day, although everything did freeze back up, so don't know what there really was to groom. Will find out status of groom (or lack of) in Lando tomorrow night.
