I understand your concerns with the long track. I do not have a short track Nytro for you to try right now. The XTX has the tipped rails so it pivots and turns like a short track. Don't mean to classify you by age buddy, just want to make sure you spend your money wisely and if that means turning you away from a Nytro then it's the right thing to do. If you're still up for a quick hard charging sled then the Nytro would be a lot of fun for you. Heck, I got the one here with the Push turbo kit! The first question I ask every person that comes through the door interested in a sled is what type of riding do you do. The last thing I want is a unhappy customer. I don't care if I have 15 Vectors and one Viper left. If the Viper suits their application better than that's what I'm going to sell them.

If the ACE is comparable to a 500 Pol liquid, prob not interested . I'm old but I work out so I can still ride it like I stole it at least 50% of the day.

The ACE isn't going to be enough for you. It's a fantastically quiet, smooth motor, but it lacks in the fun dept., IMO.

So no one was a fan of the 500 xc sp with power valves polaris had ? that is what my Dad said my 900 reminded him of
 
Nytro vs Viper

Late on this thread but I have a lot of miles logged on my 09 Nytro and its been a great bunch of fun. Solid and bullet proof. Late last year I went to the Viper and hope that some of the above holds not true or gets solved. It is in now for the gas line and reverse recall (never had a recall in many previous Yamahas).
When I serviced it, the oil tank plug was finger tight, the antifreeze did leak out of the over flow (dealer stated they find loose clamps) and yes, the hood fit is not the same. Also, the chain tensioner was about 3 turns out. I set it in to 1/4 turn out only to learn that a bulletin is out suggesting it be 1.5 turns. Now I get to pull the can out again to change it.

The sled is more difficult to service but now that I've done it, that will be fine. Should I be asking about a mapping change?

Having said that, it does handle well and has better ergos than the Nytro. But, the Nytro will not be culled from the herd as it has another 15k miles in it. It will be on call along with the Venture, SXR, VMAX 4, Exciter, 74 433 and 71 338.

I know you are focused in on the 4 strokes but you did mention your son would be on this sled some or most of the time
My $10,500 would be spent on a 2015 Poo AXYS 600 Pro-S. or the Indy 600 can be had for around $8000.
Running along side the Nytro last year, the Indy 600 took about 1/2 to 3/4 gallon more than the Nytro on avg. per gas stop.
Hyfax and belt easily lasted the 3100 miles it was rode. The motor never skipped a beat....just sayin....lightweight fun + reliability isn't outta reach.

I had a 500xcsp and was one of my favorite sleds, had several different sleds between that and my current sled, a 900ACE.

The 900 may not have enough for some, but don't get hung up on the 90hp rating.

Also, seems to be several 900 owners installing a Cudney clutch kit with very favorable results.

I also agree with Snobuilder that the new Indy 600 is a good buy. If the 900ACE hadn't come out, the Indy would have been my next choice.

Not to hijack the thread but not many years ago it was difficult on JD for anyone to say anything positive about any brand 4s sled. All you would hear is any 4s is a heavy ill handling pig & you will have to pry my cold dead fingers off my 2s sled. lol I will never ever buy any 4s sled.

Seems that 4s sleds have improved with lots of model offerings & lots of good user information to consider. Good to see the market being more open minded about the subject.:)
no I am still closed minded .to me they are good for only 2 things. 1 660ft of ice after mods.
2 groomed sweeping trail. anything other give me my 2st

btw guys have not looked to hard at the 900 ace. is it the high hp HO flash or low hp flash in the sleds?
I know for the spark it is the same motor with just a different ecu flash . and guys are already buying the low power one and re flashing for less $

The 900 ACE sled is the higher hp. From what I had read is the Spark is available in a 60hp, and the H.O. version is 90.

Who suggested a 600 AXYS a while back.....hmmm. $10500? Wait....first year chassis.

LOL....proven mill with a better intake tract and a more precise, electric oil pump....nothing to worry about there unless you are the competition lining up with one.
The revamped chassis is titz according to, UMMMM,...everyone who rides it....LOL

Just rechecked the price sheet....2015 600 ProS $9771.00 or $10,199.00 w/ES

Way ahead of you snow build...re the 600 Indy
My only question was the shocks might be too cheap.
On the wife's 05 Xc500sp the rear shock faded on me in 2 years and only about
1500 miles. Not sure I want a cheap shock but still considering

Stay away from any 1st year build sleds. Especially AC, Polaris and an exception to the rule the Yamaha Viper. Seems my 02 Viper had plenty of issue's.

I am sad to say that my buddy owned his 14 Viper for 220 miles....could not get it to handle...tried for an entire day on the trail making adjustments. Finally gave up, stopped in to see Chad and traded it for a new Apex XTX. He said he never felt so good about getting rid of a sled..

Maybe they will get the Viper fixed. It looks great...is quick but no top end 600 etec went right bye at 80..just goes to show.."marketing can't take the place of R&D.

As far as you sled purchase....lots of options..keep looking and if this weather doesn't change it will be a buyers makes again.

Some guys don't care about top end and that is fine. Our group is now older and we want it all. We want to be warm. We want electric start. And if there are places to go 100 we want to go 100. We have gone down the lower HP route several times but we seem to always gravitate back to 800's. It sucks to not even have a chance if you line them up. Also after years of observation you can take a sled and adjust and tinker and fine tune until the cows come home but the guy with the heaviest thumb will still usually win. When I buy a new sled I stud it to the max and put on 8 inches of good carbide on the front and just go. Gas mileage is a silly reason to base a sled purchase on. These are expensive toys and the season is short. If you end up saving $200 bucks a year on gas what difference does it really make? It is about the same as boat ownership - there is really no way to justify it moneywise. Our standard joke here is that walleye costs about $87 bucks a lb if you ad up all the costs associated with catching it yourself. Snowmobiling is about the same deal. Go out and buy what makes you happy.

220 miles the Viper is not even close to being broken in. Once broken in it's a much faster sled. Not a top end monster I agree but once broken no 600 will fly past it at 80. As a matter of fact any 800 will have it's hands full up to 80 with the Viper after break in.

Still the same question in my mind a 2nd or 3rd fleet touring sled or a raw outrageous ditch banger seat of you pants banger for change of pace & style of riding? Remember the choice you are making & why then throw a leg over some demos & you will know. Doesn't really matter 4s or 2s unless you don't like 2s smell then 4s would be better. Many of the sleds metioned herein are worlds apart in application & use so need to be honest with ones self is most important or 2 years down the road you will be asking yourself why in the heck did I buy this sled???? lol

I only crept away on my Nytro 136 from my friends 1000 mile Viper LTX on the lake last year...same cobra track and no studs....fairly good traction.
It only makes sense.... even with the new exhaust ,I doubt Yamaha was going to leave loose with a severely detuned 1050 mill....they take alot of pride in there motors to say the least.

Twistgrip , what have you done to your sled for upgrades or mods ? I do ride trail more then off trail . I did have a switchback assault with same track on it and loved it on trails , the hook up was amazing . Any must haves for the nytro ?

I put a oft steering relocator,oft roll over valve, trail tank, mountain tech skid plate, couple vents exhaust turn out and skinz bag, DuPont slides other than that drivetrain is bone stock.
