Just finished putting another 500 miles on my 2014 LTX SE Viper this pas t week. Really having a lot of fun with this sled. 2700 miles to date. The only issue I have had was a broken primary spring. This has been more reliable for its first year than my Japanese built 2006 Apex. Corner to Corner this thing is a rocket. They did a reverse update ( never had a problem or talked to anyone with an issue) They just did the reflash for the occasional starting issue. ( less cranking ) It happened to me once in the last 1000 miles. Very pleased with it and my dealer Pats Motorsports .

I was able to put a few miles on a Viper last season on one of Kips demo's. I thought the handling was superb just like a doo. I did like the throttle response and the ultra fast back shift, reminded me of my 01 SRX, you could see a bump in the trail, hammer it and it's right there, very fast responding and no learning curve when you get on the sled. I wanna ride another and see how they are this season.

Not to hijack the thread but not many years ago it was difficult on JD for anyone to say anything positive about any brand 4s sled. All you would hear is any 4s is a heavy ill handling pig & you will have to pry my cold dead fingers off my 2s sled. lol I will never ever buy any 4s sled.

.:)

That was when only Yam produced 4 strokes.

Not at all true ...only performane 4s was RX 1 ton in 2003 13 years ago going into 2016 models since then all oems jumped in including Polaris then out later... I'm talking as recent 3-4 years ago. As Ez said he still will only buy 2s so still some hardcore 2 strokers out there for trail sleds.

Disagree completely. Doo's XR1200 pretty much leveled the playing field between the best 2 strokes, and best 4 strokes (in terms of trail sleds). That occurred in 2009.

So, the reasons to "never buy a 4 stroke" stopped being debated 6 years ago.

well, he.ll mel...why didn't ski-doos 1st attempt at a 4 stroke (joke) sled make it worthwhile to buy a 4 stroke back in 2001 with that v-twin idea they came up with....LOL...or weren't you doo doer back then??

Didn't own sleds in 2001.

And thankfully Doo's last attempt at a 4 stroke is a little different than its first attempt. Otherwise, I'd join you in going back to 2 strokes.

lol

**** if I could I'd own 2-3 different sleds and would ride whatever I felt like on a given day. A Viper WOULD NOT be one of them (right Kip? :) )

yea I like that idea... own 2 or 3 sleds and ride whatever feels good for the day!
I'd get a Apex and Viper to start with, but I like the 4s. then I would need a Pro RMK for going Vertical
yea I like it

You have got to be kidding the 4s vs 2s goes on everytime a customer walks in a snomo dealer to buy a sled & both have their place in the market place except those that refuse to consider 4s by application or bias.

Lets get that big can of worms out and peel it open for another peek....
Anybody have experience or thoughts about/with the '14 Indy 800 SP? Has Poo solved it's motor issues for 2014?
I'm figuring if I extend the warranty out three years that will hold me until I'm onto the next adventure.
449 lbs - that's insane HP to weight ratio. I'd bet 12 - 13 MPG if lucky.

Indy SP 600 got me 14-15 all last season and the 600 is a proven motor.
The 800's are better from 2012 on...or if they are blowing up like 09 and 10 it is being kept a secret.
I gaurantee whoever is on the Indy will like it's fun factor....time to chit, fusion.

looking at the 144 Assault with an 800. Need a trail/boondocker for Michigan. $13,400 OTD, kinda got me heading for the door. The 600 really would be enough in MI anyways.

Polaris 800 issues were primarily in 2011 and real early 2012 motors.
I spent nearly 11 months going back and forth between a new doo or poo.
Ultimately A really good deal came up on a 2013 switchback 800. Base as you can get. Has hand warmers and reverse and that's about it lol. But it was 8699 for a new 0 mile sled with a 5year factory warranty....

Now you haven't hear much about it yet I'm sure but you'll start seeing the story's pop up... The etec 800 in 2013 has some major crank issues and skidoo is replacing tons of motors.
I'm not talking at like 3 or 4 k miles. I'm talking like 1500 miles and there is a good chance if you run your sled even a little spirited it might toss a crank nd need a motor.... Kind of like a dodge truck transmission in the 90s and 00s. Lol.
Check out doo talk or even talk to a dealer and ask them how many motors or cranks they are replacing....

The 2016 assault will most likely get the 800 HO.
I'd hope it could be had for way less than 13,400.

My buddy had a 2011 and 2012 pro-r and both burned down before 1500 miles, actually smoked the 12 twice. Not sure those years were fixed or if he is just hard on things.
