Virus Predictions

Today in the Northern Illinois area a journalist using transparency laws, forced Amita Health Care to release hospital case numbers they were being secretive about.
DuPage County is the 2nd most populous county in Illinois, 931,743 at last count with Cook County number one at 5,223,719.

The Covid patients being cared for in a few DuPage County Hospitals -

LaGrange Hospital - 17
Hinsdale Hospital - 11
Elmhurst Hospital - 54

These are all the article stated, but it released that in their Health Care System which has 19 hospitals in Northern Illinois with over 7000 physicians, the chain had a total of 220 coroavirus patients. These numbers encompass an area of more than 6,000,000 people. Harldy Epedemic, widespread, overwhelming numbers. My question is Illinois is reporting 15,000 cases, where are they? If you have an avg 220 patient cases at 19 hospitals in the most populous area of the state, you would need 1285 +/- hospitals to treat that amount. Illinois has 180 hospitals. I guess the other 161 are overwhelmed with the other 14,780 cases.

La Grange is in cook county...but thanks for the numbers as they are thankfully a lot lower than anticipated.
Chicago is working to transform McCormick Place (HUGE conference/trade show venue used for auto, boat and rv shows) into a potential treatment facility for patients who test positive. A neighbor works for the Army Engineer Corps and he's asked all the kids to create some art work that might help "de-sterilize" the place. Crazy stuff

Interesting. . .
John, I give you a lot of credit for writing.
Things are evolving so fast that a response today may seem old in a week. We can see trends in statistical numbers. Maybe we can manage those trends?
There are just simply less interactions between people. We all have changed the way we do our normal routines outside the home. It may not be conscious or on purpose for some of us right now.
We have slowed this thing down because of our actions. The dire predictions will be adjusted. Less people will die. It also means that we will see a different way of doing things in the future. There are lessons being learned throughout this deal. We will keep on learning.
What will be different? I'm no pro on the subject, so I can only speculate. We will see a viable response to the disease. The rollout will be broken apart in the beginning. Managing the response is critical. It is going to take a whole new level of leadership to manage. We couldn't even stop people from hoarding TP initially. I am a little leery of using a tracking process for those with antibodies. I'd rather see us be personally responsible as individuals. We can gain more traction with that idea if we continue to knock this down with our personal actions. What does that mean? Be responsible and buy the amount of TP you need before someone makes it a trackable event.
The financial toll is unbelievable. We already know what it is like at home. There are some big big industries in deep trouble too. There is no quick and easy solution. The response so far is still a beta test. Do we save the airlines and other travel industries? How do we save them if people quit moving?
Believe it or not, we are lucky right now. We are getting used to the idea of dealing with this particular virus. We will get more used to it as time passes. The extra time is a good thing. We can calm down and act in a rational manner to handle this thing.

Wisconsin State Parks are Closed Indefinitely

OK, here goes my daily vent or rant. Wisconsin's Governor has closed 40 State Parks indefinitely for the following reasons;

According to a Thursday morning release, Gov. Evers says the decision was made “due to unprecedented crowds, litter, [and] vandalism” and made “out of an abundance of caution.”

Unprecedented crowds. Do ya think? You've got the population backed into a corner with no place to go and now even fewer options.

Litter and Vandalism. No excuse for that, those responsible now have even fewer options along with the rest of us.

The last part concerns me also..."out of an abundance of caution". That's lawyer/politician speak and it's a slippery slope. Close the parks today, maybe close the boat landings next. Where does it end in the name of public health? I'm all for responsible behavior but closing the State Parks seems like a bad idea at a time like this. Maybe limit the number of visitors as a better option.

Couldn't agree more.

What dollar amount do you put on that, not to mention businesses taking it that don't really need it being unethical, also banks mismanaging money not following proper protocol, truth there will never be enough money, we need to flip the economic switch back on, put people back to work, because where is the money going to come from.

Agreed.

Sadly, PPP in its current form cannot save thousands of businesses. They are already past the point of no return. That is including the $250 B they are asking for and the Dems have once again blocked. It will simply delay the inevitable.

We need(ed) to open this up much sooner.

The course of this country and our economy is already significantly altered for a decade or more.

Worst part... I bought a new 2020 Backcountry 850 before all of this and boy am I getting the I told you so's. :)

Before you all jump on me. I was TOTALLY kidding about the worst part. Trying to make others as well as myself smile. It's hard to do right now for most.

When is Evers going to shut down the government and send everyone home without pay (himself included)? I’d be for that!

And gee... wasn't he the one encouraging people to go to the state parks? I do however have to agree with the litter and vandalism but especially the litter of the gloves and wipes, its mindboggling that people just don't care.

It's 9 o'Clock in Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) — After Tuesday night’s violence that left seven people dead and 14 injured, and the inability for some to follow the stay at home order, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has placed a 9:00 p.m. liquor purchasing curfew starting Thursday.

“Effective April 9, we are placing a 9:00 pm curfew on liquor sales in Chicago. A liquor curfew will remain in place during Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s stay-at-home order,” Lightfoot said.

The coupling of the gun violence with measures to have people follow the stay-at-home order is what Lightfoot said is necessary to have the liquor curfew. The mayor said that since the stay-at-home order went into effect, more than 2,000 dispersal orders were given in response to large gatherings. Eleven citations were given out that ranged upwards of $5,000.

The stay-at-home order began March 21 and was extended through the end of April.

Stop being ignorant. The modern analog of forsythia
Is Plaquinal [sic] aka hydroxlychloroquine. Heard that on the news lately?
Back to you, HH:
I was only referencing the movie, where Forsythia is used as a conspiracy theorist's "fake cure", not suggesting that is a fact! If you want to claim that Contagion was prophetic, that's on you, not me.

Plaquinal? To usurp your phrase: "Stop being ignorant", it's Plaquenil! ‹Zing!› :devilish:

And it can have some quite nasty side effects.

One of the most serious side effects is retinopathy (generally with chronic use). People taking 400 mg of hydroxychloroquine or less per day generally have a negligible risk of macular toxicity, whereas the risk begins to go up when a person takes the medication over five years or has a cumulative dose of more than 1000 grams. Not a nice trade off!

As I stated, take forsythia. No side effects. I’ve been on it for a month, no
Side effects. Looking back, I’ve been exposed, as we all will be. Happy Easter all, appreciate each day we are given.

Forgot to mention, a stock trader friend of mine, Dr. Jerry (not the Bob Newhart fame),
Is using Plaquinel thingy off label on CV patients in NY city with success. He is a doc at ground zero in NYC.
Forsythia = Plaquinel fyi. Be safe all, the virus thingy is comin.
