I cant believe my eyes this morning! It actually snowed! Had 4-5" in my yard this morning in East Troy area in Walworth County. Southern part of Walworth county started pulling out signs last weekend so for sure that portion of the county for sure wont open. The northern half who knows? I guess wait and see, for sure 4-5" we have on the ground as of this morning is not enough. But on the plus side it is snowing pretty good right now.

On a whim!
And now, we interrupt this program, er, … thread, to present the trivia item for today (and a bit of Keweenaw/Copper Country lore):

What is a "whim"? and "On a whim"?

These horses are "on a whim".―――――――――So's this one.

The Copper Country connection? Here is a circular horse whim, (behind the flooded mine shaft shown in the foreground) from the 1840's on the Lake Superior Mines leased properties. (Photo courtesy of Pasty Cam.)
[I'll bet ya din't know dat! ;) ]

frnash my son and I came across a open shaft south east of Rockland some years back. It was somewhat scary as it was open. We were following tracks of someone else when this happened. We threw branches and logs over it to prevent someone from running directly over it. Then we told some locals what we had found, and where at. They seemed to be able to identify it by the shaft number. No idea how deep it was though, but it was deep. Anyway the snowfall is disappointing in my area this AM. Maybe half what was forecast. BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!

East Troy snowmobile clubs trails are out as of last Saturday. I know a few other clubs in the county started as well. I guess that was it for the year. Such a good start in December followed by a terrible January, February and March. I guess better luck next year.
