I'm sledless this year too. So, I get my snow-fix by running the groomer. Ya know, it ain't all bad being out there alone at 2am laying down a nice smooth trail knowing someone will enjoy it in the morning. it's all good. I'll have a sled again someday.
I've always wondered, do you see any wildlife from the groomer or is it scared off the trail before you get there? As always, thanks for the job you guys do!

This has been my first real season of operating, as I don't have a sled, I told the club, and groomer tractor owner that I'd run it. I saw over 100 deer the other night. There was a little snow due the next day, so they were out like crazy. Nope, the groomer really doesn't scare them off too bad. Lots of times they'll run right down the trail right ahead, and then duck back in right behind....easy going for 'em of course. So yeah, lots of wildlife. Clear starlit nights are pretty nice out there. The idea of being out there over night is to get a nice flat surface in place in hopes that it freezes up hard before the sled traffic the next day. So, if you meet us out there, don't jump on that fresh ribbon to ride, let it set up a while, it'll preserve the trail for next time you're in the area.

Well....

Here we are moving into the middle of January and it is shaping up to be a very poor snow year for central MN. I can say I did ride my sled this weekend and it was fun. Our trails have about 2" of snow on them. Lakes have about 1" of packed snow. My riding is pretty much done until we get some more snow which by the looks of it won't be happening anytime soon.

Time to hit the gym hard and play lots of hoops. Good thing we are headed west in March and the better shape I'm in the more enjoyable it will be. Looking forward to skiing for a week!

I live in Ironwood/Hurley now. I have not even started our 3 sleds due to lack of snow. I have 2 Chicago friends coming up Wed-Sun and it looks like they will be spending alot of time on Silver Street and no time on trails.

Hey Yenann
How about all that and a Cabin I built north of Eagle river that isn't worth half of what I spent now . And havn't
had decent snow in 4 years up there .. But I am not throwing in the towel on this sport because it's nothing that any
one can control .. I understand your fustrated , but there's a lot /most people that would wish for that set/up you
have , and drive to the snow . I trailered down from N Wis to ride last week . And it was well worth it .. So buck up and drive ... or sell it all & take 2 trips a year for probably 15 years out to Utah to ride and do a package ..
Just my 2cent's ... Sorry you hit a sore spot ..
Now back to my living room to do the daily snow dance ..

I am a snowmobiler, fields, woods, ditches, logging roads, hills, trails, it does not matter, if I am on a sled, I am happy. It is that simple. :D
Very true - it's all good. We just got back from WY and had a blast (other then the wifes sled blew up). Hoping to have it rebuilt by this coming Saturday to try and go ride some ditches around the house with the kids. One has to try and enjoy it all!

Reality. The price invested should have no bearing on the amount of satisfaction derived. Whether you invest $ 55k, $ 100k or $ 1k, the reason you have made these purchases is to enjoy the activity, whether it be snowmobiling or whatever. If you need to complain about the price and investment, than you are probably in over your head. If you could control the weather, then you would know it all and money would be no problem.

Like many others have stated, everyone needs to quit being so rigid and spoiled from a winter and trail condition standpoint, and go and enjoy, whether it's riding fields or perfectly groomed trails, deep powder, whatever or wherever. I have actually put on over 600 miles this year riding decent trails in northeast wisconsin, near my cottage I bought to enjoy regardless of conditions. Cant trade the fun I have had and the enjoyment gained, so get out and live life.

Think of all the cash you are saving on gas, oil, hotels, trail permits, meals, truck maint. , beers after the ride, pasties, strudel, plugs, belts, broken parts, and all the 200 other little things that cost to ride. Im looking at it like Im money ahead this year!

X100 Little Bro!

Picking up a buddie in a little bit,... and going to "try" to put some miles
on,.. before the big Rain/Meltdown.
Just hope there is as much "fair" trail left as there is "poor".

If not,... will come home and ride the vintage sleds around the yard and ditches!

3 sleds worth around $16,000
$33,000 Truck
$7,000 trailer
Plus gear
And it all just sits!!
Just about had it. Get no snow down here and not enough up there.

Just so we're all clear here, you purchased a $33,000 truck strictly for snowmobiling so right now it has zero miles on it and gets used for absolutely nothing else correct?

2010 with 3,489 miles. Have a company truck. But can't "use for vacations" they say.
Last truck was 1996 with 50,000. Hit a deer lost control and rolled it. Insurance totaled it out or I'd still have it

I hear you Yenann, I had alot of money stuck in this sport also, got sick of looking at new s@#* parked in the driveway never being used, so I sold it all(lost my ***) and bought some older sleds and an open trailer and I couldn't be happier. Now I need to learn how to work them when they break down LOL.

and the problem with that is??? I have had 3 vehicles dedicated just to pull my snowmobile trailer and all of them well over 33,000 dollars. And by dedicate miles I mean at least 80 to 90 percent of the miles were with a snowmobile trailer in tow. After all you gotta break the vehicle in first. For the last 20 years, I've always had a backup tow vehicle that has been the wife's primary daily driver. We are not weekend snowmobilers, that's how we spend our vacations with the dogs.

I'm going to make the BEST of it. Yes the year hasen't turned out as I had hoped for. There will surely be some snow somewhere, and we will take our riding package to it. The 1st snow event I missed being out of state. We had to scrap a WUP trip to spend time with family. Make no mistake about it .... I have way too much invested but when I look at selling everything but the gear and go to renting.... I can't do it ! We also prefer not to weekend ride but times are changing, we will change with it. I moved here 12+ years ago for several reasons, one of which was the SNOW & the trail systems. We used to drive here from PA just to ride ( back in the early 90's ) and it was considered a " big " thing to come here....
All my stuff is paid for except ( 1 tow vehicle) that also doubles as our reliable for traveling long distances truck . Since 2006 .... if I wanted to complain, I have bought 6 sleds, all brand new not to mention the gear, for 3 kids and myself.
Snowmobiling is my passion, I have shared it with so many people, no matter what happens with the weather, I will make the best of things, it just makes the trip planning a little more complex.

An old AC/DC song comes to mind.... " Ride On "

Lot of good posts on here! Money I saved so far here in Michigan will help finance another trip west. If anyone is planning on getting out I am willing to waste some more money on a nice trail sled. No blue or green. Cut your losses now. PM me asap.
