While I understand Yenann's frustration, I had to laugh as most people at the start of this thread pointed out the fact that it looks like he has a nice truck and trailer from the cost of things, and he lives in IL so trailering is a regular event. Believe me, I don't like fields much either so that's why I don't ride around here very often. I was supposed to be in the UP right now, but we canceled and it looks like we may cancel the trip we have planned in about 2 weeks too. My point was while I wish there was better options, make some lemonade from those lemons. Looks like he has all the equipment he needs to make a good batch! At this point if you want to ride, load up that 55 grand in toys and use them! No matter almost where you go, it will be more fun than sitting at home frustrated that your investment is gathering dust.

My 2 sleds paid $3900 Dad paid $1600 for his
My truck paid $2500 Dad paid $12k 6 years ago with 50k miles (02 F150)
2- 2 place clamshells paid $2500 for both and 1 open 4 place paid $1200

I have 1300 miles on already this year and loved every second of it. Not to be an @$$ but you don't need to spend that kind of $ to have fun. Can always downsize if it's really that big of a problem otherwise cross the border and ride!

Good point and good to keep it in perspective.

Central Indiana has 8-10" on the ground. i got a good base on my driveway. 158 miles so far riding the shoulders and county roads. Carbides are taking a toll but plenty of grease for the slides.

Last year I put zero miles on the sleds, did even buy trail permits for them. This year just over 200 miles riding so far and looking to even more. I guess some years you win, some you lose. I can see the frustration especially if you have payments on things and not being able to use them. Main thing is enjoy the time you get to ride even if you have to chase it.

Not to offend anyone, but I think I know where yenann is coming from. I had a week off and did trailer to south central Wisconsin. I rode for a day and a half and got bored and came back. I can only ride so many farm fields. I couldn't even get the wife to go. As far as rack up the miles, don't forget you are stopping evey 1 or 2 miles to cross a road. The guy I was riding with had a sore neck the next morning from looking both ways at all the road crossings. 350 miles of farm fields, they all look the same, GPS came in handy. I guess I'm spoiled from the UP and Canada.

Again, I did not intend to offend anyone, but farm field riding isn't for me or the wife. And yenann, I wish that is all that I had tied up in this sport. But then again, you never see a U-haul trailer being pulled by a hearst.

I agree, didn't we have enough of that"farm field riding" when we lived in IA, guess I am spoiled now with getting to just leave my house to hit the trails

I feel your pain. My sled right now is an 09 summit and I told my son (he's 5) to take a good look at it because he will be inheriting it. I have ridden a total of 7 times in the past 3 years combined. Just not worth it anymore. I will always ride. I will always have a sled, but the days of spending huge $$$ to get the latest and greatest are over. I guess its part of being more of a family man for me too. If I have extra money to spend I will take the whole family on a nice vacation instead of a 4-5 times a year toy. I have loved this sport more than any of you can imagine but I just drive a beer truck for a living and can only justify so much money for one hobby.. Sucks, but I'm thats where its at.

3 sleds worth around $16,000
$33,000 Truck
$7,000 trailer
Plus gear
And it all just sits!!
Just about had it. Get no snow down here and not enough up there.

Are you looking to ligudate? Depending on your setup (make & model's), I would be willing to purchase.
Just kidding, I am so glad I have no "toy" payments just truck and car.

If you came into WI and only rode farm fields, you weren't in the right areas. You need to go west a ways, toward Baraboo, WI Dells, Reedsburg, Plain, Sauk City, Loganville, Bear valley, Wonewoc.....Sauk, Columbia, Iowa, county areas. The terrain is forever changing there. Probably a 50/50 split between open and woods. Ya gotta get west if the interstate.

That's my point. I used to ditch bang and ride farm fields around here and 2 trips up to Boulder or UP. No issues. Now nothing. Already cancelled one trip this year. I can't just hook up and go. Need to plan. And with no snow it's hard to do.

I feel your pain. I know where he is coming from. I have lived in MN for 14 years now and have yet to see a winter with average snowfall on the ground. It gets old waiting for winter to roll around and then be moving into January with minimal snow on the ground. There is no question the season climate has changed in my area. Not saying why just saying it has changed and in my eye not for the better.

I enjoy the winter season the most. Too bad we are now in the middle of another weak one. Oh well. Not much you can do about it.

I feel your pain as well. All my stuff is paid for, but those sleds aren't getting more valuable locked in my enclosed trailer in the driveway. Plus, we have chased snow-last year my wife and I went to Ashland County about this time as they had rideable snow. There were so many sleds that we waited almost an hour to fuel up at a tavern. Plus the trails literally fell apart. We were down to ROCKS in one big area.
About ready to hang it up, too.
