I have a 2003 3/4 ton GMC Yukon XL.

Installed the MICHELEN MTX 265's on it along with some Centerline Billets.

Had 'em 3 years now, noticeably smoother ride than the Firestone 245's that came from the factory and bad weather traction is excellent!

After much research and asking around, went with the Hankook AT10. Great winter traction reviews, although I have yet to use them in the snow(soon I hope) Pretty quiet, for the agressive tread design. Had BFG's, liked them in the snow, but too much money for a 15 year old design. Also BFG was not available in the 10 ply 285/16 size I wanted(at least not locally). 1999 F-250 SD 7.3 Diesel

If you go the winter / summer tire swap route, I have Firestone Destination LE for the summer and Firestone Winter Force for the snow. I kind of like them both , their are not alot of money compared to Yokahama or Pirelli or Michellin ect.... The Winter Forces did well in the snow pulling the rig last year + the local small family owned tire guy could get them in a couple of days. As the snow starts to fall some popular tires get scarce or their is a long delay to get them. plus sometimes I like my small local tire guy as compared to the bigger chains. I might be wrong but I think Firestone & Brigstone are the same company ???

Firestone Destination A/T's, Has a nice aggressive tread pattern, relatively inexpensive and they wear VERY well. They are also much quieter than one might expect. I've put 2 sets on my Tahoe and I have them on my Silverado. They manager of the Pomps tire and Auto by me recommended them to me and I've been sold ever since. If you go to the big tire websites such as tirerack.com you'll see that a lot people are very satisfied with them as well.

I've had the Goodyear Silent Armor as well. Very good tire. Also spendy. I have a 2008 Avalanche. During the winter I switch to a Cooper Zeon tire. Bad *** tire during the winter. MUCH less expensive. Then back to the Bridgestone Bologne skins in the summer.

Before you pull the trigger, check out the Goodyear Wrangle Silent Armor. They are pricey but I have had them on my last three Suburbans and am putting a set in my current one before the snow flies. They are unbelievable deep snow traction tires. They won't help you on mileage but you can't beat them for winter travel.

I have the Goodyear Silent Armour Pro Grades on my GMC 2500. Had them for a year now. Excellent traction and wear so far. Ride quality and noise is OK-they are pretty stiff.

They are expensive, but they are holding up well and I expect to get good life out of them.

Tires

It depends on winter or summer. There is no comparison to a true winter snow/ice tire. I had brand new BFG all-terrains last year. There were terrible in the winter. Not nearly soft enough. Great in the summer. Amazing tread life and pretty quiet for a knobby tire. I have Blizzaks for my truck this year and they are amazing. I can get more places in 2wd than my BFG's in 4wd. As far as all around tires for both, leaning towards winter performance the Cooper M+S that someone else mentioned are good and the Bridgestone Dueler AT's. The Bridgestone Duelers came stock on my 07 silverado and they were surprisingly close to winter tires. There are a couple of different Duelers; these were the knobby ones.

Snoluv how many miles did you get out of the
stones my avalanche 2500 got 78,000 and
they still had tread just got a little harsh riding. I bought
the same thing and put them on.
I knew what they were and what to expect in the
way of noise and ride.

I got 63k out of the bridgestones, but they started dry rotting around 45k and got very harsh. Not real impressed with the longevity! I could probably squeeze a few more out of them tread wise, but I just got a puncture pretty close to sidewall, and its not worth replacing one when they're just about shot anyway.
