We cancelled our MLK weekend ride with 14 guys. Actually we cancelled the rental house but I advised the group to keep the weekend open in case the weather turned. We ended up going with 5 guys and it was absolutely amazing. We rode 3‘ to 4’ powder all weekend! Very few groomed trails. It was slow going but tons of fun.

We were supposed to drive up tomorrow but cancelled/postponed to the 2nd half of February. Usually do two 5 day trips. Maybe just one this year, and might need to put more miles on the truck to make it happen. I thought I was emotionally prepared given John's forecast but I'm bummed anyway. But there will be good seasons to come...

Just canceled our trip that was suppose to start this Sunday thru Friday. We were starting in Marquette and heading west to Lake Gogebic and than heading up to Copper Harbor. This the worst winter in the UP that i can remember.

Three of us we’re going to do the Circle Tour in 3 weeks..starting in Superior Wis going all the way around Lake Superior thru Canada back to Duluth 1850 miles. Not be be this year… looking at the long range forecast I think it’s safe to say the ship has already sailed on this snowmobile season. Talking to friends and family up north if no snow doesn’t show up till late February most clubs are not going to even bother sending out groomers that late in the year to try and build a base as everything will be thawed and will be starting from scratch..definitely not worth it. Was just over 2000 miles last year at this point..this year 132 miles rode one day in southern Wisconsin 👎

I know you were looking forward to that trip and feel bad for everyone who have to cancel. I haven't ridden one mile this year and for the first time in my life am thinking I might not ride this year at all. Hope things turn around in February so we can at least get one trip in. If that happens I think we will ride like we've never ridden before.

Not sending out the groomers would be the a dumb idea for the clubs. They get funding per hour in Wisconsin they run. The second 6-8" of good snow flies up there they will be running.

Going to interject some POSITIVE VIBES onto this thread in hopes that it will turn around for other areas. Best snow we've ever ridden two weeks ago in CO. Untouched powder.... ALL.... DAY.... LONG!!!!!! Truly epic day of riding and my sons first time ever out to the "real" mountains (Black Hills, SD the past few years has been a pre-curser to hitting the mountains out West).

ALL trips cancelled - I hate to say it, but I don’t know why anyone would hold out hope for a specific area. If you wanna ride this year you gotta be mobile. Even the double secret probation go to’s don’t have much this year, and what they do have won’t be here in 10 days.

X2.

MKW wherever you got that info, that person HAS to be misinformed. Makes zero sense for all parties.

I think they’re thinking after this warm weather they won’t be able to get thru swamps and low areas...with all the melting standing water etc. ..would need some bitter cold weather to freeze things back up before snow and not looking like that’s in the offering anytime soon(or is snow for that matter). Maybe they’ll groom/roll the areas they can and don’t open specific trails? That would be tough though..Don’t like it any more than you..

I’m generally as optimistic as they come, but this provides ZERO optimism. 6-8”? Who we kidding - after that hits thawed ground it will be lucky to make 4-5” and they ain’t grooming or rolling that.

We decided to head up to Hayward last weekend on our annual trip. Thought we would just ride the Flowage at best for a bit then hit some establishments. We rode up to Reel Livin and one sled decided to trash the clutch. Two of us rode back, grabbed the trailer and said that was enough. Got about 40 miles on...Decided to bar hop in the truck( no need for crying about a DD, we had that) and hit the local establshments after that. Oddly, most places were actually very busy and it was a good time had by all.

Totally agree no where to ride for next 10 days just wait it out and access again in 10 days but doesn’t look good at all anywhere in the Midwest. I never over expect because that leads to disappointment. Realistically we have a long way to go for good riding in northern WI or UP. February is my last month of hope going into March with current conditions with high solar angles, little snow , minimal ice on lakes ,wet swamps is a total bust. Maybe best to just put this season behind us and hope we never see another like this.

The Keweenaw is expecting temps of 40 Wed & Thurs with temps to remain in the mid to upper 30's through next week. I am thinking that Michigan Techs Winter Carnival Statues are not going to fair too well. I am also thinking the Copper Dog 150 dog sled race may not be able to held as that is scheduled for March 1st thru 3rd. Normally, we would have a good base of snow that would not be greatly affected by a thaw, but, now it will be a matter of IF there will be snow much less enough. This is the most bizzare winter I have ever seen.

All of them. Was going to rent in Land O next month....might just start planning my trip into the BWCA. At least that needs the ice to leave to enter and play:) Plus it's much cheaper to Canoe and Fish!! haha

So where is all the trail sticker money going to go???
Speaking for WI, all that money goes into the segregated snowmobile trail aids fund.
Fall tasks involving brushing and signing still happened and get paid out.
There was a good amount of grooming going on in S. WI for the 10 days. Nowhere near the rate of clubs grooming in a normal N. WI winter though.
This will allow a lot more developmental grants available for clubs next year. Also funding new miles of trails.
It would also go to supplemental, but highly doubt we are getting into that this year!
It will be interesting to see how it gets split up. The snowmobile rec council decides these things, and then is presented at the AWSC meetings, and is available online.
