What's It Gonna Be?

I'm in as well & looking forward to it. As far as this site is concerned, from what I understood, or, at least, thought I understood about the ads on this site, were ads that John sold to businesses, not the Google Ads that now bombard the site. I am disappointed that ownership has not been present in the sites operation. One can't help but have a feeling of abandonment which to me has exacerbated the loss of the man that created this site, it's sad. The thing that has kept me coming back here is not only the fact that I have been here since the very beginning, but, the people that have been & are here today. With the current ad bombardments & site unavailability issues, I'm ready for a change. I like what I see so far Gary & thank you for taking on an endeavor of this size. Hopefully everyone will gravitate over & new folks will become a part of it as well.
I'm kinda with Mezz here. I've been here a long time, not quite from the beginning, but close. I don't even ride anymore. But, I come here because of my love for the U.P. I was introduced to the area early in 1988 and have been hooked ever since. Hopefully retire there in 6 years. I had the privilege of spending a few weekends with John, what an amazing down to earth man. I look forward to what we all can share with each other about our experiences in the Yoop. But, I tend to believe that with Gary's site up and running, sooner or later, this site will be history and we'll all be having the same conversations on Snow Trails. That's ok. John Dee was great, now we have something else great to look forward to.

Oh yeah totally agree. Keep up or wave bye bye as the ship leaves the port. John would have changed and improved the site always did he knew the score everything changes just like the weather. I’m thankful the owners whoever they are kept the site somewhat operational for us but imo it needed updating. IMO. I thought someone would buy the site and update or another site would be created to replace JD. We have no idea what ownership wanted to do maybe selling was off limits no way to know but we have reached a fork in the trail which way do we go follow the groomer or do we go in a new direction. Me I’ll try a new direction I’m ready and good to go.

I’m pretty confident that people will support both sites. After all, it’s not a binary choice. How long that continues, I think will depend on the tolerance for the issues we’ve all been experiencing here.

I do plan to continue to provide updates on the Kawasaki project here. There may be some that just prefer to follow it on this board. I will say though, it’s frustrating when I want to post an update and the site is down or I post something and the site goes down and people aren’t able to see the post or respond for several days in some cases.

I’m really looking forward to being able to keep people updated on the project on SnowTrails. I love the photo posting capability. It’s a little different in that the images aren't inserted in the text so they are basically attachments but are full size and I like the fact that I don’t have to resize the photos.

Understood, it's been very frustrating with the availability issues. Looking forward to a venue that is reliable. I will continue to follow both sites temporarily, I think we have seen the writing on the wall for some time now. Just have been accustomed to things, time for change.

Im planning on migrating over I don’t check in that often here anymore. I registered on the site and went into general discussion and couldnt find any threads but maybe there aren’t any or I didn’t locate them

I will be registering as it's almost impossible to get on this site anymore. Seems like 1 in every 10 tries I actually get on the discussion boards. Most of the web cams on here I have found other ways to get to most of them. We will see how it goes,I will check in here and there but overall very frustrating for the last 6 months to even get on the discussion board.

Chris, it takes a few times to get a handle on the flow but you'll soon learn that the "communities" tab in the upper right corner of your screen shot will be your friend. From the page in your screenshot, select "communities" and it will bring up a screen with all of the group pages. If you select the General Discussion group at that point, it will display the post/comment stream for that page. A few times through and you can fly through the navigation.

I tried unsuccessfully to log in
I will try again tomorrow

There have been some inconsistencies in the log in process and Gary has been or will be working that with the tech people. In spite of this, it seems that most have been able to log in and explore.

There are two main ways to log in. I like to use the "Login" on the blue Login/Register tab that is displayed after you select a Community from the home page, This brings up a different login box and after submitting your login info, it will say "Authenticating" and may change to "Logged in Successfully" (this is a change that I think has been made in the last day, as it wasn't doing this before). Even if it doesn't say successful, if you select "communities" at the top of the page, I'm betting you'll find your login was successful.

In any case, I'm glad you're coming aboard!

I figured I would give it a few days and retry after my test post, this morning I tried signing on and it did not tell me my log in or password were incorrect but after a few tries it said i have tried multiple times and asked if I lost my password, I will try resetting it and see what happens

Ok I joined the new site. I miss the discussions that used to happen here. But the way the site works now makes it difficult and I assume that's a part of the issue. I don't want to complain out of respect.

Discussion Board was unavailable again on Saturday & Sunday with the exception of a brief time early in the morning on Sunday. I would like to see the new site have a similar set up by way of topics & posting in a chronological order.

They tell us that “sometimes you have to “take the Bull by the Horns”. Yeah, I grew up in the country and trust me, you don't want to“grab a bull by his anything” but that's where I find myself today. I've taken on the task of creating a new Website as a Spin-off of JohnDee.com and rather than a replacement, I'd like to think of it as a continuation of a community that was founded by John many years ago.

JohnDee.com, what a great place to meet the people of snowmobiling. I became a member in the early days and a few years ago John asked me to take on Moderator duties. Sadly, John passed away a couple of years later which brings us to today. Many, including myself, have expressed concern of losing contact with the people that have made this such a special place and that is one of several factors in my decision to create a spin-off of a new home for snowmobiling. I'll still be here in some form or fashion but most of my focus will be on a new project in the form of

SnowTrailsUSA.com

I've taken a deep dive into what's working and what's not and have come up with a plan that I feel will take us into a new era of an on-line snowmobiling community. I've put a ton of time into this venture and quite frankly, quite a bit of my personal finances to make this happen. You'll see some things that look familiar, and other features that I feel will make a difference. A Discussion Board and Vintage to name a couple of stops to visit. Yes, I've convinced Skiroule to join us as he will have his own page, Kelly's “Time Machine” Shop with full editorial control over his restoration projects, fishing tales, and most anything he chooses to share.

I hope you can join us. Again, I don't consider this as a replacement but a continuation of a special place we've come to know. I hope you'll pay us a visit and if you see something that you like, become a member and pull up a chair.
