Wheel Bearing Shot

For the fifth time in 3 years, and the second on my current one, I've had to replace the front wheel bearings in my Suburban. *** is wrong with these things? Anybody but me have this problem with Chevy bearings going bad? Tired of dealing with it.

Dave, I've had problems with the wheel speed sensors on my 02 Silverado, though not the bearings themselves. Unfortunately, they're all one unit. Left front first went out at 3 years old (of course, just out of warranty), then again almost exactly 3 years later, then the right front went shortly after that. Obviously some sort of flaw for which others were recalled, but Chevy said mine wasn't in the range of VIN numbers under recall so they wouldn't do anything about it. After a few calls and letters, they offered to give me a $1000 owner's loyalty certificate if I were purchasing new in the next year or so (which I promptly and tactfully told them to shove, in so many words).

Are both side going out or is the failure specific to one side? Is your Sub a 3/4 ton?

Had the right side replaced last year and the left side is toast now

My past two Suburbans seemed to be the same way. One side, then the other. My buddy, who is a mechanic, just laughs. Claims it's a Chevy thing. He drives a Chevy by the way and has the same problems.

Maybe it's just me but you wouldn't think a $50,000+ vehicle (3 none the less) would have this issue!

Venting!!

It's a 2007 1500 4wd Z71

I wouldn't jump to ford so fast, My Excursion's front end was junk in 100,000 miles and i didn't even have the heavy diesel. Then it was another 800.00 to change the spark plugs on top of the 2400.00 front end rebuild. It sure was Pretty!

I'll see how the new Chevy treats me, so far so good! Only complaint so far in 40k miles is I now have a tire with a very slow leak.... Darn tire!

O2 3/4 ton with 175000 miles so far. Still is a solid truck.
Other than wear items I have only had to replace alternator and fuel pump.
Been a very reliably truck. Also have a 04 Yukon with 145000, I have replaced the wheel bearing on one side(don't remember which). Other than that very reliable truck. I hope I just didn't jinks myself.LOL(knock on wood)!!

wheel bearing

I had a bearing go out at 40,000 miles on my 06 half ton chevy. Could'nt believe that it only last a few years. Don't drive off road or beat on it , just went out. Also on the chevy work vans they seem to not last long.

Me too !!!

I have a 2000 Chevy 1500 ex cab 4X4 long box P.U. 160,000 miles, brakes and water pump are the only repairs. I farm with this truck so I use it in some rough ways. We have a 07 trailblazer with less than 30 K miles and already 1 bad wheel bearing and they just told me a tie rod is worn. What the HE$$, I hope I can trade it before our extended warranty is over!

typical american junk.dont buy american garbage.

Yea right ...??? I have a Lexus and the wheel bearing went out at 35K . Now the other side needs replaced and it has 45k

I have had 2 subs and 1 tahoe and never replaced a wheel bearing. Have a used sub I bought 2 years ago, bought it @ 125K and now have 170, the only problem I have had it the rear self leveling shocks and the front seal leaking.

I think the american cars have risen to a excellent level of quality & reliability. Yes there are some exceptions but lets be real.

Wrong time to pump that " don't buy american garbage " sunshine .

I wish I could find more " Made in USA " stuff to buy.

Wow, what brand is everybody using to replace the bearings with? OEM or aftermarket?

My father in laws '06 super duty's ball joints had flat spots from sitting so long and never moving. I was always told a bearing will last longer if it is moving, think about trailer bearings and how often we service them. On cars and trucks we drive them everyday and I would bet 99% of the people in the world never touch the bearings.

Bought a Honda Civic(against my better judgement) for the kids to drive. It had 85k when I bought it and one week later the trans went completely out. Bam! $3000 for a rebuilt one. I realize I might of just got a bad one but it will be American made for me from here on out.

I told the wife not to leave it in auto 4 in her Trailblazer. Something about it popping in and out, scares me.
