Which track should I get?

I'm snowchecking a new sled this year after I see the colors on Saturday. I can choose between a 1.25" Ripsaw II or a 1.35" Cobra on a 137" Switchback 600. I ride 99% on trail with this sled and do not add studs. Which track would you go with and why? I appreciate any comments/suggestions.

Cobra seems as to be somewhat better in loose snow than the RipsawII. On trail, or off trail. RipsawII likes the hard pack conditions. The way the trails get torn up so fast anymore, I feel the Cobra 1.37 has more to offer, without giving much, if anything up. Just my thoughts as to how trail conditions are now.

Thanks guys! I ride more hard pack trails than anything ( In my advanced age, I look for hard and smooth). :) Keep the opinions coming.

For your kind of riding, I would also recommend the 1.37 Cobra. I've had a ripsaw in the past. I did not like it at all, to me, too much wish wash. But if your into a loose tail end, then it might be for you. Just my .02.-Mezz

You said no studs. If you love kicking the track around corners the 1.25 will be best. Cobra is taller and softer but still kickable.

I like to keep the trail in good shape for the next sledders, so no kicking the track around corners for me. :) The Cobra may be best. Do you lose much speed over the 1.25"? I lost over 10 mph when I went from a 1.25" to 1.50" on my FST Classic.

You ask about differences in tracks yet you claim to drive really conservatively while trying to make my reply sound like one that damages trails. This just in....sledders have been kicking there sleds around corners ever since their sleds had enough power to do so circa 1965.
driving like a 70 yo woman doesn't need any input on track options. Corners will always have ice, so the responsible thing for you to do would be to stud a .75 track and enjoy your ride, yet worrying about top end speed doesn't make you a responsible trail steward, does it?....LOL

You may lose a little speed, but I would think it to be minimal.

Fwiw the cobra is 1.25, but the tiny little fingers on the ends of the lugs make it 1.375. I haven't put many miles on a cobra, but I did like it a lot more than the 1.25 ripsaws I've owned.

the rip is a good hard pack track and 2 ply the cobra is a great soft snow single ply track , I am not a fan of the rip but also not a fan of hard trail . if I just pounded diamonds on the ribbon I would prob get the rip for long life and durability and the stiff lugs to bit the hard snow

I've had both tracks on the same sled some years back. The Ripsaw is a sweet trail track, the fingers bite and hold the snow great for cornering. This is definitely a hard trail track. The cobra is more of a loose snow track, the scoops pattern on the track work great for accelerating on loose trails. It's a decent off trail track as well.

Can't go wrong with either track Ripsaw will wear better if putting on lots of miles before buying next sled. Rip just better for me on WI hardpack 80% -20% on trail vs off.

had both....the ripsaw changed lug design from good to worse by adding fingers at end which flex and take away that length of bite from lugs....years ago before this change I would of told you ripsaw....not anymore....now cobra....the lug designed by the computer is far superior now in take offs and stopping...the scoops allow the track to function as good as studs but without them....id do the 1.35 cobra on a 137 unstudded....I am running a 137 x 1.6 unstudded cobra....came off a 129 x 1.375 ripsaw unstudded....22,000 miles on unstudded 1.375 ripsaw testing.....now about 1500 miles testing on 1.6 cobra unstudded...can tell the difference already and some has been on sheet ice...never spun out or got squirrely....performed really good and wont be going back to ripsaw....my 2c

just to point out...theres a big difference between the ripsaw and ripsawII track....mspease stated in the first post RIPSAW II !!!! why cant most of you guys pay attention to whats typed vs jumping into be'n a know-it-all??? sheeese....this is why you should never ask silly questions on the internet....do your own research and make your own decision
