Just trying to figure out the attraction to ride up & down on the same Trail 3 on each & every trip? Soooooooo many other better trails why 3 all the time? I was only on Trail 3 once this year & was not that great from all the traffic. What am I missing?

I think mods should delete this thread. Please everybody, stick to trail 3, it's the safest trail there is, no need for you to try out any others...

That is exactly the point Indy they don't no matter what you tell them about all the others. There has to be a reason or some logic to it? Don't know?

Yeah it's pretty much the main artery that feeds the other trails. It's sure welcome to me coming home from the harbor versus driving 122 and 124 up there! For some reason I hate those twisty trails that are always bumpy it seems.

Just seems to me you would want to explore other trail opportunities than see UP from the freeway only. Not much fun sucking in high speed snowdust all day when you have other options.

It's a main trail that runs north and south. Just like trail 2 and trail 8. It just so happens that many people come from your area, Eagle river, lando, St. Germain, etc... and want to go north. Those people aren't very adventuresome like me and you so they stick with it and don't want to get lost maybe. Hahaha

But, let them go on trail 3. That way the other trails stay soooo nice. :)

the last time I spent any time on 3 was in 05 with the wife on the way back to calumet it was 3 foot rollers from about 8 mi out of town. after 3 hrs of this and her having a crying nervous break down on the side of the trail I said **** it. sacrificed carbide and hyfalx took the road back to the cabin.drove home that night at 1am she has never been back to MI and refuses to ever go back.I some times think she is smarter than I

I was up this last weekend and 3 was smooth, little bumps, big bumps, sugary and squirly, snirty at spots too! all these conditions were on the same day!
There is no snow in the Midwest!!!
The Yoop has it and everyone from a third of the country and further are all riding up there!
All the trail riders and boondockers are all up there!
Down here in the Twin Cities area there hasn't been 1 day of riding!
On my way home it was pretty much dirt in Hayward and south!
I think most the offshoot trails off of trail 3 were and are pretty darn good!
all the warm-ups on and off on and off etc... have made it next to impossible to get the trails set up and hold for any period of time up in the UP!
Skyler and I were riding back from the bug bar on Friday afternoon and passed the groomer and I think it took 2 miles ahead after passing it to where you couldn't tell the groomer had been there! maybe less than 2 miles even

Richard at Krupps told me that they added another pass to the trails on the weekend, and that helps a lot but is almost a waste of time unless you hit it within the first half hour it seems!
all these guys sit for 8 hours in that groomer of their own time with no pay!
Dave Sleeman told me he did a 20 hour run straight to try to get the trails back in shape before a freeze-up to prevent them from being frozen bumps that the skid will just go right over and not flaten!
And Dave off-trail rides and doesent even use the trail system!
I feel bad that all these people that groom hear about how crappy the trails are!
I love to ride and am happy to have the white or even snirty bumpy gold under my track!
Make the best of it and enjoy!
The weather has been hard on the trails in the Yoop but remember that what is there has a TON of traffic and the fine people are doing the best job managing the snow EVERY DAY!
I hope to get 2-3 more trips up there!
Down here I have my Harley off the lift ready for the bumpy snirty roads down here in the Twin Cities!

Sorry for the windy response!

Think character building! I learn to watch the clock much closer than I used to. Conditions, traffic, time of day and distance. My sons I were "caught" in Phillips WI at 10:00pm with a 50 mile ride to home. It was an easy ride getting there, but we picked the wrong route home. 10mph is all we could muster. We pulled into home base at 3:00am, I felt like I had been put through a meat grinder.

The kids are gone but the wife and I keep the distances more reasonable and I always plan a route that should be in okay condition AND gets her back before 5:00pm. One time I put us on a roller coaster - we stopped after a couple hundred yards and turned around knowing we would have to rent a room for the night. Well worth saving the marriage, she still rides and she got to buy herself a new outfit. My clothes did double duty. :)

Got to laugh same thing happen to us back in 90s on 8 around Wakefield & had to get back to White Pine what a NIGHTMARE!! 3 footers made us seasick & my wife didn't ride much after that. I have seen Trail 3 whacked out like that past Hancock & I like 3 a lot between BC & Greenland but the rest not that interesting compared to 109,107 & other feeders before the bridge. IMO
