Why is off trail riding more fun than trail riding in your opinion?

we should all keep telling the newbies how to get into off trail riding so that soon enough theres no areas left untracked and areas start getting closed and become off limits because people dont know where they are and end up making a land owner mad or getting hurt. IMO

We should? I think we should send them up by John. =)

caution to all wannabe Bobbie Boondockers-stay on the trails. The mountain lions are out there and they can smell you a mile away. They will have you for lunch!

I agree Kimmer. Off-trail is too dangerous for the inexperienced. Besides worry about rocks, stumps, trees, rivers, creeks, stucks, getting lost, etc.... you also need to worry about things that want to eat you such as wolves, cougars and the elusive squatches.

BELIEVE!

Don't forget about the Dogman. He loves boondockin areas in these parts.

I love boondocking because I am an avid power-line photographer. I love all high wires, and continue to document them each winter all across the western U.P. In the summer, I take pictures of trains........

I think we need to host a Boondocking 101 class... sort of like Schooled but more elementary. Anyone have any good idea for topics?

1. Which garden tools to pack.
2. Muffpot Cooking.
3. The louder the can the better the chance of getting rescued.
4. What not to do when stuck.
?????

Gimme some more.

and how to understand directions.

Turn right after the 5th big tree and go over the rock (that is snow covered) and look for the single track into the woods up the right.

It's you or the plow truck driver.
Controlled braking without studs
Decal or go Naked.

We all ready got that in the lower. How about: Proper off trail signage 101 and the perils involved.
To Tek vest or not.
What batteries to use in a beacon.
Two way radios, pros and cons.
Klim vs. Motorfist
Dimple or not.
low altitude clutching for novices.
(make note that these are seminars that make up Boondocking 101)

I know what you mean, I remember when trail 13 from Twin Lakes to Greenland wasn't a trail yet. Now that was a lot of fun!

So True. It's amazing how much it's changed over the last 5 years or so. Regardless of whether you have secret play spots or not, that will only provide for short term entertainment these days. You really need to "chase snow" in the Mass to South Range area now before everyone else and their mother hits it. Hennesey/Ring Ding/ and Kessler's have been avid posters, and good entertainment for years on this board, but there's so many new "Bobby Boondocker Teams" within the last couple years sharing info, carrying GPS' and sharing waypoints with everyone/anyone they ride with.................. I love the area and will continue to ride there, but will be exploring less frequented locations as well going forward. Here's hoping that this weekend pans out for everyone heading up! Have fun!
