Wisconsin Trail Pass - thumbs down

So far cap step is proving itself as anti WI tourist...tourism is something Walker and the Repubs like to hang there hat on in WI....well Cathy Step seems to be asleep at the wheel in the dept of WI tourism if she is not all over fixing this BS system a snowmobile trail permit distribution. These folks don't ride and don't understand how bad they effed up a perfectly good registration system....por maybe all this hassle is to move towards the sunset clause actually bringing cap step to nightfall.

Curious about how it goes this week with lots of WI snow on the ground? Snow chasers will want trail permits so online and phone lines will be jammed. Really are the best trail conditions in much of WI over last year with even more snow on the way Wednesday.

Yes, and no, it cannot be robbed.

they attempted it only a few yrs back in MN

nor dose MN but remember the people who want it make the laws

and the gas tax theft in MN is back on the table again today .
this mail came from Sen David Osmek this AM
That being said, the intent of SF2 is to have the funding come from an alternate source for receational sources. Any funds transferred to roads/bridges will be backfilled, with no net loss. If we are unable to secure the backfilled monies, the whole action will be abandoned.

I bought 4 non-resident trail passes for Wisconsin last Friday at 9am in villas county at gas station. No issues except it is now Wednesday , checked mail, nothing. Leaving tomorrow to head back up after lunch, I guess if they don't show up by then We'll be riding on papers for the next 10 days.

True! The more I think about this, when the stickers show up before trip, 1/2 the group ordered them so we can jus put them on the others sled, and other half can ride with the proof of purchase papers, split the cost , we all got 25 dollar passes. Sweet. Thanks Wisconsin, guess we can go there now...... (sarcastic)

Just curious to how you think cap step is anti WI tourism?

Why not put that alternate source directly to the DOT & leave the trail funding alone?

because it is a back door way to screw us in a few short yrs .
call your reps in MN because if this happened 3/4 of your tail funding will be gone in short order

It's called KISS! And I'm not intending to be a S----A--. The old way was much more simple, and very easy for the out-of-state rider period. There were several ways to do what you wanted to do, were it to register as out-of-state, or simply trail pass.

Yea, thanks for all the extra money. Now maybe we can have a few more parties, maybe monthly now. Because, really thats all the AWSC wants is to party. The well-being of the clubs is just secondary. Wow!

We are finally getting a $70,000.00 bridge in our area over a bad swamp that we have been trying to get for years. I can't say for sure why, but the extra money must have something to do with it. It will save me lots of grooming time before the swamps freeze. :)

And you have proof that cap step was the ONLY thing that made that possible....??? No... no proof anywhere exists to back that claim.

At least you came out of the AWSC closet and we now know where your opinion is rooted....and this is a good thing, a direct line is a perfect resource to speak to.

Everyone has a direct line for a resource. All club members get the WSN magazine. In that magazine is a listing of all county AWSC Directors and Reps. If you have concerns with anything, it should first be brought to your club President. If they can't help you, then contact your county Director or Rep., that's what they are there for. Chances are you will get further, or more info. from them, then you will going on a chat board.

I cannot believe the uninformed just pointing fingers and assuming it was better before. Please - Join a club and participate in informing yourselves on what the good is happening with this change. This past year they used the monies to complete as many shovel ready projects as they could fund. I have heard this from more than one DNR official. There was still money to pay maintenance and grooming as well - on a "down" year. They also raised the rate per mile also. The information is out there but you have to want to look, learn and support the sport that we all love. This was a partnership trial with the AWSC and the DNR to begin a process which will benefit the clubs by getting money back to where it's needed. It does have some pitfalls - as there will be in any new project. For locals as well as out of state folks. It will get better and already has. Believe me - most clubs are burdened as well - keeping track and submitting the info, taking complaints and answering questions like all those posed here are not "fun". Most clubs need help - financial and physical. Seems we have plenty of hot air in this thread to push the sails if put to good use. The cost is minimal really. Michigan is also toying with increasing the rates... to much higher than Wisconsin. It's inevitable. A 20,000 mile trail system does not come from pancake breakfasts and soup dumps. Gas taxes are also not always the best option as well. I think it's working.

Why? you have been here promoting C/S since 2014.. Why shrink away now?. Surprised by your non reply to the anti tourism method of welcoming out of state day riders to our state by not giving them a lousy sticker for there $50.00...a paper receipt?...that stinks...and don't say that's the DNR fault....this is a legislated move the state, AWSC and DNR were all involved in and ALL needed to be on the same page when developing the complete package. So far y'all failed, but there is a short time period left to make things right.

I was simply passing along info for anyone to use, nothing more, nothing less. I'm not shrinking away, I stand by my words. I have learned over the years on this site that there are some people here that are never wrong, and there is no point in arguing with them. I could give facts all day long, and it would make no difference. I just try to not get involved with some topics, because my words would make no difference to some.

I was hoping you had a better answer. So can we >snowmobilers< and all the out of state folks wanting a sticker to ride legally here, will be given a receipt instead?...And we should take this as a better system? You have got to be kidding.....AWSC, please.

From reading this thread it sounds like some people have all the answers. It would have been nice if these people would have provided their input in my original thread that I started on 3-22-12!

Is the WI Trail Pass perfect? Probably not as it is impossible to please everyone. However, it did accomplish its goals. 1.) Generating much needed funds that go directly into the segregated trail fund. 2.) AWSC membership is at an all time record high!
