Ok, I'm thinking of a Cat XF LXR, or a VIPER, pros vs cons, reviews, personal experience. What do you guys think? And NO BRAND BASHING, please!

I too am torn between the XF Cross Country or the Viper X-TX SE. I think the seat might be the deciding factor for me. In one of the mags, the Yamaha was a little faster then the Cat. (If that is important to you.)

Anyone know how the clutches held up on the Arctic version this season? That was the single biggest difference between the two. After that pick your favorite color.

viper for sure
better clutching in the yammi and unless I am mistaken yammi is not using cats torque control link bar thing that connects the motor to the jack shaft.
the same bar there are aftermarket removal kits out there because many believe it is one of the main causes of cats premature belt blowing that some guys have to deal with.
well that and the blue and white yammi looks sweet

Clutch/belt issues seem to be far better this year than the past two seasons. I'm assuming that you are thinking the XF 7000/Viper? Neither of theses sleds have the AC torque link, they both have the same jack shaft mount system that was Yamaha designed, just different jackshafts/clutches in that area. We should have our early 2015 Viper LTX-SE in this week and available for a short test drive, we also have a 2015 XF 6000 Sno Pro that you could compare it too but no 7000's.

Does the Yamaha clutching have more engine braking?

Good question probably have to ride both back to back see what you think different gears & clutches on same engine even with engine reduction is thru injectors bound to be somewhat differnt. IMO

A friend has a 2013 AC F1100 Turbo and has had no problems with the belt blowing. Last I knew he was over 1,000 miles (bought it new this year as a left-over). So if they've figured out how to stop blowing belts with 177 hp, they're probably ok with the 138 hp yamaha motor.

I've heard the viper is a tad quicker. I'd price them both with 5 year warranties and then decide.

Sorry that I can't add anything to the comparison conversation, but I'm curious, is the performance of the 138hp Yamaha 4s similar to that of a 600cc 2s?

I say it's closer to a 700 than a 600...the Viper is not 138 hp....the Nytro is...I saw dyno's of the viper at 128-132 hp (closer to the vector)..the Viper is quick...so is the nytro...but I think they said the Vector has more top end on long pulls....I know the vector was run in the 600 class 2 years in a row at the shoot out and won pretty easily...however...this year...they didn't run the vector...would have been interesting to see how it ran against the indy 600 (class winner this year)

Really not fair to compare any 130HP+ 4s to a 600 2s any 4s in the 130-140 hp much more comparable to 700 2s.The 138hp Yamaha 4s rear exhaust nytro engine was a monster much more tame in front exhaust version in 14 but probably will get it's mojo back with better mapping & clutching tweaks in 15 Vipers.

I purchased the AC cross country xf7000, I also rode the viper with a 141 track 1.6 lug the same as the cross country. Both are excellent machines I don't
think you can go wrong with either one. My choice came down to being able to get a lot more for my trade at a cat dealer(2012 f-800).

Yep...I think that is what alot of guys are doing..whoever gives the best deal is getting the sale (most on trade in etc)....I mean other than a few details they really are the same sled with different colored skin...the viper might be a bit faster...but it won't be by much.
The bigger difference will be warranty....Yamaha really has an excellent warranty program...better than cat's in my opinion.
What I have been noticing in my area is that the 7000 series Cat's were a bit cheaper ($500 to $800 dollars cheaper depending on the dealer)
So I think it's really a trade off...you can pick up a cat cheaper...but the yamaha has the better warranty....it's gonna come down to the dealer...cheaper isn't always better....I choose the one who will give me the better service should something go wrong...it's kinda nice to have a Cat and Yamaha dealer ......but it also makes me feel BI POLAR...if u know what I mean....lol

I would be happy with either to be honest.......but......my buddy just screwed everything up....he went and bought a vector ltx with power steering...and said it's the best sled he has ever owned (this is the guy that owned polaris's for 40 years...and nothing but)...so now...I have to go ride one.....because if a polargoon loves it...I might really love it...lol......which yamaha triple will I own...??? Vector.....Viper....or XF 7000???....Don't know...for now I will ride my cat...but in the near future I definately see myself owning another yami powered 4 stroke....might have to follow whitedusts footsteps...that XTX does intrigue me. Hmmmmmmm.....too many choices

The Vector motor is AMAZING....after last weekend I got so impressed with my sled again, I'm actually considering either another Vector or a Viper, but I need to be sold on the A/C chassis. And that's going to be a tough sell for me - but the motor is soooo worth it. The motor is made for corner to corner power. I like the power plant better than my Rush and I didn't think I'd be saying that 2-3 months ago.

I agree...I always liked that motor...I was worried my friend who is a bit heavier...would dislike the mono, or the seating position...but he said he was pleasantly surprised at how well it rode, and how comfy the sled is.
I really think some of the magazines have not given this sled enough credit...The reviews they do..seem off...like they put some ricky racer on it, and try to bash 3 ft moguls...and then give it a poor review..it's a NICE trail cruiser with a great motor....nothing more...if you run powder, and bang ditches..this is not the sled for you...if you cruise trails or forest service roads...great sled.
