Need to have engine/chassis designed together from the get go. Yes, something totally "all" new.

Yes all new would be logical Viper is what it is but new joint models might blow some minds. AC & Yam know each other better now and engineering probabaly more open to each other & exchange of designs. If OEM relationships don't get closer with each other then probably done at term of contract. Viper pretty darn good using existing designs on both sides now time to do better together or move on.

How has the Village Idiot not been Banned yet? He must be here for our entertainment?

Yea,iit's puzzling....maybe if you continue to follow me around this website and call me names, i will get banned.

I think it's getting clearer that YAMAHA will be releasing something amazing in 2017 that will blow away the competition. ....LOL

Id be shocked if they built a joint "new" chassis/engine. If one of them has figured out a new innovative design in chassis or anything important like DI 2 stroke that works better than what is out now... they will without a doubt keep it for themselves

It takes at least 5 years usually more to go from drawing board to production. Do you really think Cat and Yamaha put together a huge project splitting costs on R&D and all other resources that they knew would take 5+ years to develop? Too many kings will ruin an army. If Yamaha did come with a new 800cc 2 stroke I would bet it would come in their own, new chassis. Using artic cat as a crutch to get them thru the last few years while they finished R&d on the new design.

I believe it is coming up on 5 year contract term. No idea what has been going on behind closed doors. But Yama stated we have to learn to bring new products to fruition much faster than we have in past.

I don't think it will be a 2s engine & sled but if Yami wants to get in it to win it 2s is ncessary. I'm thinking a new 4s platform to replace Vector & Apex maybe Apex just has the turbo option. Who really knows?... but an awful lot of buzz.... not like Yamaha to allow leakage but protos on trail and things have been said by peeps that are part of Yamaha so something cooking.

Ignore "it" - I got your back - I do that for people that write realistic, sensible things. As for Yamaha releasing something to "blow away the comp" - don't hold yer breath.

Doo is Feb 22. Believe Yamaha is March 1st, imagine Cats the same??

As for Yamaha, 2017 Sidewinder, a Viper with factory turbo.
Thanks for the dates. ....to me a turbo Viper wouldn't be much more appealing than the Cat 9000....kinda old news....I guess im nota big fan of the fanner. Just more to go wrong .

Yamaha has such a rich snowmobile history it would be great to see them keep going and possibly come out with their own chassis/new motors. This is also the day and age of corporate collaborations, shared technologies, and joint project ventures, so you really don't know. In the end it has to make sense from a business standpoint to continue with any product line they offer, hopefully snowmobiles fit with their strategic plan.

Something has to happen as the current Viper is NOT there.
I test drove a 2016 Viper today and did not like the following vs my 2016 Renegade;
-Too tippy in the corners, I mean all corners both slow speed and fast speed.
-Too high of an engagement engine speed, omg it seems higher than a 2 stroke.
-NVH does not seem any better than my 2 stroke, this is the main reason I wanted to test ride it.
-Rear end suspension is very good and stiff but the front end is squishy, maybe because of the engine weight or twin spar geometry etc.? I am not sure.

I do like;
-Torque is awesome
-Engine sound is cool
-Appearance is cool
-Like heated seat

I like Yamaha as I have owned three different generations of FZ-1 Bikes and they were the best in the Naked bike fight til 2013.

I went in wanting to buy a Viper as a DX is only $9,395. Bought another 600 E-tec Renegade as it was a few hundred less and seems better fitted to me.

As an fyi; I rode a two up Yamaha Vector too and it was awful compared to the Ski-Doo GTX. It was so tippy I could not understand it..it had great power etc. though.

X2 1fujifilm! Yami 3 cyl engine is fantastic, but very heavy in weight. The Viper would be a much better YamaCat if only the intake and exhaust were reversed. They have to get to something all new. The present YamaCat is spent for all it is.

The Viper is a Nytro in abettr chassis.
With THE SKINZ FE kit I like my Nytro as much as the Viper I have tried. Love the motor....hate the weight.
The lower slung Apex and Vector can be driven deeper into a corner. The weight us there but with a lower CG.

Sounds like a few suspension spring adjustments and a new belt (or primary spring) would cure 99% of that.

Maybe my coffee hasn't taken it's full effect but what is 'NVH"?

The Viper Cat chassis is not the Twin Spar....it's the "Pro Cross" if memory serves.

ise, vibration, and harshness

Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), also known as noise and vibration (N&V), is the study and modification of the noise and vibration characteristics of vehicles, particularly cars and truck

NVH = noise/vibration/harshness - basically sound levels & harmonic vibrations
Yes, Viper a Pro Cross

I went and rode the Viper because I was tired of the 600 E-Tec revving at 6,500-8,200 all the time and when I drove the Viper it revs in a similar vicinity. I really thought the Viper would make it's power at a much lower RPM range but was mistaken.

even with the worthless shock absorber bolted in the f and rear bumper to make sure it still qualifies for 3/4 ton licensing
