Yamaha Sled Talk....and rumors.

Remember that the YamaCat Viper is a fit together engine/chassis. Not designed/engineered as one. And not bad for a fit together project. However it is poorly balanced due to the location of the most weight.

Enjoyed the write-up, but it's crazy that this is a good deal for a toy...

it is all relative go buy a big boat that could be your maintenance cost for a season . get in to racing stuff like the U.S. mile .I have buds who spend that for a weekend not including the trailers full 300k+ cars .
or u could go out and buy a huffy and get your thrills on a bike path for about 100 bucks.
or just sit home and watch the wife watch tv :rolleyes:really priceless entertainment there

They were $9,995 two weeks ago and likely about $10,995 to pre-order last fall.

Sad but true, most 125 hp and higher hp sleds are now over 10k pre-order.

I don't know, but I've got over 3k on my 15 LTX DX and I love the way it handles and sounds. Absolutely zero issues with both my Viper and the wife's. I would buy again in a heartbeat. Love the four stroke power and sound all on regular gas. This sled feels no heavier than my 12 Adventure which by the way, I put two motors into it. Gas and go baby......

Gosh - I hope yami continues to develop. But will toss in my $0.02 here. There are a lot of great sleds out there no doubt. For me, and most of my buddies, the ones that choose the yamaha's are due mostly to reliability. Yesterday when we were riding, we had 1 apex xtx, 2 Vipers (1 turbo), 2 nytro xtx's, 1 venture and 1 RMK 800. All years between 2012 and 2016's. The RMK had 3 motors blown in it's life and the other motors had not been touched. Even tho when we were boon docking, the RMK was king of the hill for sure, he was sick of the motor issues. He rode a few of the stretched out yami's and was still pretty impressive. At what point in time is the fun on the 2 strokes no more fun when you are always working on them and don't have the confidence to take them into the deep? Certainly not saying any other perspectives are wrong, but this is what most of the guys who I ride with think. And personally, I don't want any of the 4 builders to go away. Competition is always good for the industry.

Well said. Yamahas low center of gravity and non stop 4 stroke torque fills the groomed trail niche very well. I swapped back and forth between the '12 Apex and my AXYS 8 SB all day yesterday in all sorts of conditions.
These are 2 very different sleds and have many positives in there own catagories. On the lake these 2 sleds run side by side up to 100 on the dreamometers. In the twisties and in fairly smooth conditions the Yamaha is hands down my favorite sled of all time. Very fast flat and stable. You won't catch alot of air, but what Corvettes do?

The AXYS is probly just as fast through the same terrain but with a slight nervousness about it that is not felt on the Apex. The positive trade off is the ski lifting fun and bump sucking abilities you get when the trails turn ugly.
Long term gas and go reliability?...no need to go there .....which is easier to move around in the trailer?....no question there either.

I think it is time we stop trying to compare the current pure Yamaha 4 stroke sleds with the newer style higher CG mogul masher sleds everyone under 40 thinks they need.....its like comparing a dirt bike to a Vette,....but it is a great choice to have.

Up until 2 years ago I did the same - bought a Yam and a lighter Poo to run based on conditions and/or for wife to ride. Now I'd just rather have ONE 130 HP Yam motor in a 480 lbs. Doo or Poo chassis. Not complicated.

I am 53 and love trail riding, I find my Apex SE perfect for what I like! When it comes to weight, how many people can tell the difference trail riding their sled when it is full of gas or empty? On a 10 gallon tank that is a 60lb weight difference!

I also have a Corvette, I do find the two similar in a lot of ways! Fast, fun and reliable! I hope they keep the Apex in their stable!

We have a lot of ideas here. Lets all hope Yami does something big, and all on there own! Apex/Vector very good at what they are, but the market for them very small. I was surprised at how many "Yami" fans are wanting "800" 2 stroke sled.
