Yet another Munising warning

I was just in that area. Does this dude ride around on a sled ripping signs off trees? If you guys are talking about the sign to boot lake bar that is on the Haywire grade, that's nuts! he should ride iron county wisconsin, every intersection has a tree with a sign saying Munch --> on it. gotta love tacos

Really, my son started riding on front of me when he was one and slept most of the time. How could he possibly be the operator? And if the child is deemed the operator, the tickets should have been issued to the child. Love to go in front of a judge and have the cop explain that the child was the oeprator while sleeping, lol...

Having the child in front of you makes the child the operator and you the passenger regardless of who's hands are on the handlebars.Seen it before you are gonna lose in court.

You know there was a DNR CO (female) like this guy several years ago who kept harassing all the good ole boys down around Garden.......found her a$$ during hunting season, handcuffed to a tree, stark nekkid........of course, guys spent some serious jail time, but also she got transferred downstate......all in all I'd say it was pretty much a wash........

We had a fresh out of school new CO on our trails three years ago that did the same stuff. These youngs CO's are out to prove how they are saving us from ourselves. Give it a year. He will be told to calm it down or he will be moved. Our local guy finally got the picture and has been decent of late. Make sure your complaints are made and are valid. A few calls downstate will make a difference.

I keep the contour mounted to my dash now just because of who is slithering around in tax payer funded squads now days

I have a ton of respect for law enforcement, but this officer seems to have a major problem. Ego.
Come hunting season, he'll have trouble.
Elger county sheriff pinned my then 15 year old son and I for trespassing. I missed a turn in the trail. After realizing it, I followed many other tracks about 1/4 mile to the next road to pick up the trail again. They were waiting. $135.00.
So trail pass and fine were $225.00 for the weekend. Such a beautiful area. Really enjoy riding up there but have not been back to Munising since.
Guess I'd rather give hotels and restraunts the money.

Not saying I am not guilty. Sure was. But really a simple mistake. Warning might have gone a lot further.
Would have not had a sour taste like this new guy is doing to others.

I've been encouraging the poster on ty to fight the ticket. You'll see my comments there.

There is no state law in Michigan that requires you to have only one person on a 1-up sled. You can stack up 50 clowns on a sled and ride all you want under state law. This CO is writing it under a federal regulation for trails that are apparently going through a nation forest.

There is a state law in Michigan that prohibits riding an ATV with more riders than it is designed for, just fyi.

Make shure Before fighting the ticket You read everything that is pasted on the hood and vents of the sled !! on my apex it says ONE RIDER on it .. many sleds say the same out there they might use that against you in a quart of law sorry about this .. i read this on mine after i spent 5 hun on a jack seat for my apex made me p.oed .. so it just sits in the spair room collecting dust due to that sticker on my sled . please dont get excited over this just thought i would say somthing my 2 cents you might say unless he was driving a 2 up then he might have a chance to get out of it ..

We parked our sleds in a post office parking lot last week at a bar in Indiana and a local cop came in and told us we couldn't park them there because it was private property! My response was, how do people get their mail around here?

That would be sweet if it was only a "quart" of law. We would have a lot less headaches if all of law enforcement could fit into a quart sized jar.

All the stickers on machine are just manufacture recommendations to cover them in a law suit not for legal actions to get tickets.

The sticker on my Phazer ('07) says it is "designed" for an operator - no passenger. It doesn't say I can't have a passenger under penalty of the law. The manufactures put that on their sleds to cover their butts. So, you have a case against the ticket there. However, what statute did he issue the ticket under? It should be on the ticket. Start by looking at the statute. Then, if it is some vague BS statute, I would consider a lawyer. Yes, the ticket is cheaper than the lawyer. However, if the DNR officer's ticket loses in court, he will stop issuing tickets under that statute because there is a set precedence.

This was explained in the original thread on TotallYamaha.......it's not a DNR officer that issued the ticket.....he's U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement (and a TOTAL bu++hole....you should hear some of the stories of other crap he's pulled).......and it's a federal statute that seems to apply.......the subsection quoted deems it unlawful to operate a snowmobile in a manner "that endangers the safety of others" or some such.........that requires some interpretation by the citing officer.......apparently he deemed it "unsafe" for the son......

Not so. If it is not designed for 2 people it is considered an unsafe condition. Just like the speed law. You can get a ticket for going 5mph if the officer feels your not in control. Fighting it will cost you more money but it will give you a chance for the judge to see what a butthead this officer is and he might wave fined if 100 people show up to fight tickets every day. lol

Squat, under Michigan state law, there is no law about how many riders are on a snowmobile. The traffic code has the basic speed law, which means you must drive your motor vehicle no faster than the conditions allow (where your 5 mph scenario would fall under). There is no correlating law about stacking people on a snowmobile. If you stack 50 people up on the snowmobile and it leads to you crashing into someone or a tree, then you may be facing a careless driving ticket; however you can't be cited under Michigan law for having too many people on your snowmobile.
