Your favorite snowmobile destination?

Tog. would be my favorite destination. Otherwise, it's anywhere north of M-28, east of Munising, and west of Paradise, which I can get to by leaving my driveway on the sled.

who is togwodee lodge paying off ? really the only mountain riding destination in the west?
they have revelstoke BC listed not the 20+ lodging options around BC.they list western UP not Krupps or wildlife refuge cabins.
guess the guys at AM snow are getting there free trips to tog this yr.
the Tog marketing machine keeps on rolling
That's OK with me, the more that go there, the less there are here. IMO, I live in one of the best places in the Midwest for the sport, granted, we don't have the grand elevations, but, I don't have to spend a bunch of cash & travel time to do what I can do right from my own front door. 2600 miles round trip vs. right in my own back yard, hmmmmm.-Mezz

My Faves

#1 Ely Mn.
#2 West Yellowstone
#3 Minocqua Wi
#4 St Ignace Mi.
#5 Saratoga Wy.

I've never been to Ely, MN - what makes it your #1? I'm always looking for new places to ride. I've only ridden in MN once, but we started in Brainerd and headed north to Int'l Falls and back. Conditions were poor, so I didn't get a good feel for riding there. We just ended up there because no one else had snow either.

The # of areas I've ridden in are fairly limited, but I'll go with:

#1 Quebec (can't remember, St. something or other)
#2 Togwotee Pass area
#3 The larger general area from Eagle River/Phelps up through the Western UP.

Also ridden a decent amount in the Eastern side of the UP, lower Michigan, and went to the Snowies once. On the to-do list is to go back to Quebec or Ontario. Anywhere with snow and not too much traffic is ok with me.

I absolutely love Northeastern Mn. Lots of hills, nobody goes there, well maintained. The lodging is what sets apart the area from the U.P. For example, Grand Ely Lodge is incredible. Every place I've stayed in Minnesota has been great. We did a backpack trip starting in Two Harbors, Biwabik, Ely, Grand Marais, Silver Bay. Trail system was great. tons of wildlife, scenery was incredible, the pit stops along the way where top notch. Also, a huge fan of the Gunflint area as well. If I had to sum the area up, it would be a very hilly, winding U.P. with better accomodations and less traffic.

-Lodge a Giants Ridge in Biwabik Mn.
-Devils Track Resort in Grand Marais Mn.
-Grand Ely Lodge in Ely Mn.
-Grand Superior Lodge in Two Harbors Mn.

Just to name a few.

Sounds good to me! Start with the UP, add more hills and more winding trails, and take away the traffic. I suppose the only downside is not getting the lake effect snow?

The trouble we have with MN is that, from where our sleds are parked (not too far from you), it's about 7-8 hours to Eagle River or to the Eastern UP, and about 12 or so to the better parts of MN. May have to give it another shot though.

It is a HAUL for sure. I would go to Mn. every time if Wi, Mi, and Mn where all an equal distance. I spend alot of time in Niles Mi, Cadillac Mi, St. Ignace Mi just because I HATE driving through Chicago traffic. Huge fan of St. Germain, Minocqua, Eagle River too. But, lots of traffic, DNR and less snow.

Either of you try I39 further yes but no downtown Chicago & no tolls until Rockford then just 1. This year the toll way is under construction Elgin to Rockford N&S dang road is gone down to dirt & piles of broken concrete. Going to be multiyear project IMO so you want to find alternate routes for sure!!!!

Not sure about off trail. Never tried. We've never had problems with police, reservations or food. I can find a bar better than anyone. The snow can be iffy but we have had really good luck with going at the right time. Snow was great each time we went.

Yeah, I've done that. Works ok if going during rush hour. Most of the time we're driving up it's later at night so no issues, but Chicago is almost always a headache on the way back.
