Anyone else get a ticket for NOT stopping at a Mass City trail stop sign???

Coming from Rockland to Mass City just after you cross the road, I was the middle rider of 3 sleds... The first guy stopped and went, then I kinda slowed down and gave the 3rd guy a thumbs up that there was no traffic on the unused road... EXCEPT for the tricked out dark DNR lookin Chevy extended cab pick up that was parked about 1500' up the road.... So my buddy kinda rolled thru the intersection... well, we saw the Chevy with every option on it including a way cool brush/moose guard speed up the road that the trail with the 3 big dips parallels... We stopped at the road that I guess comes outa Mass city and is actually a road that cars use... Well, our tricked out every available option Chevy pick up was waiting for us... turned out he was a cop or a DNR guy...He said he was being a "good guy" and only gave my bud that I flagged thru the intersection a ticket for reckless operation of a snowmobile... That way my bud wouldn't get points on his record... I split the ticket with him.. but in my defense, if I was driving a school bus, or pulling a trailer, or towing my bud's sled, I would have cleared the same or longer distance from when I stopped or slowed down for the stop sign... I guess the moral of the story, besides stop for stop signs, is look out for the fun spoiler in the fancy chevy pick up around Mass City... Dang I hope The U P appreciates the cash windfall we provided the last 6 days!!!

im not trying to stir the pot but this is the most arrogant post ive read in awhile...who cares what the cop or DNR drives...STOP MEANS STOP! and a few weeks ago there was posts on this site stating that enforcement was going to be up in the Mass City/Greenland area due to people NOT stopping at STOP signs. Ya its a snow covered road that you figured didnt have much traffic but you even said you saw a vehicle...that alone would make me want to stop. And if you gave your buddy the thumbs up to drive off a cliff would he!? even if the sled in front of me says its clear i always STOP and make sure its clear and safe and theres no cops. the UP does appreciate the revenue im sure...BUT they dont watch road crossing for a source of revenue..they do it to keep snowmobiles, motorists, and all others safe!! use your head! i guess in your neck of the woods STOP means slow down and roll through...bet if a car did that and hit you itd be a different story!

I have to agree that stop means stop. Last year I was coming back from Copper Harbor and in Calumet stopped at a stop sign on a major road and had the **** scared out of me because some idiot went through the stop sign without even touching the brake at 50 mph. Now please keep in mind I am not preaching to you or even comparing what you are complaining about to that but I like to think that I am enjoying myself on a little mini vacation if you will and I am not in a hurry. I guess the bottom line is just stop and avoid the nonsense that comes along with getting stopped by DNR or the Police. Hey the bottom line is they are only doing their job.

Don't kid yourself. Do you really think they are concerned for our safety? He!! no! They want the money and you and I know it.
Just like when they were sitting at the end of a lake in Minn. last year, and were busting sledders right and left saying they were speeding on the lake. They didn't care about the speed at all!! The money baby!

I don't take sides on this but, stop does mean stop. If they are parked there, it's for one reason only. I'm sure you guys were riding safe but you can't argue the law on this.

My position is, they are looking out for ALL of our safety. Not just the riders but the pedestrians, cars, dogs, etc.

All you can do is what the sign says. Stop.

JMO.

Yeah, I wish cars on the road would stop at all stop signs also. Slow and go, and no cops waiting for you to give you that ticket is there?
Sorry, but they don't care.
Snowmobilers are easy money!

Why does the piggy in the PU get to decide what’s safest for me I’ve seen sleds get stuck in the road because they stopped and didn’t get enough momentum from a stop only thing dumber than a stupid law is the idiot enforcing it

LMFAO,
Stop means Stop at any marked intersection. No excuses, the signs are there for a reason, driveways even if not used all the time, are still able to be used. There was even other posts here last week warning people. If you don't stop, your guilty. See the signs with black bags on them? As the DNR recognizes the drive will not be used for the rest of the winter, they cover them. They are not out to rape snowmobile's. They are trying to reduce stupid fatalities. If they let snowmobile's go through one stop sign, then what is the chance they will go through 2-3-4 and and accident happens?
I make sure the wife, and riding freinds know they need to stop even if other riders wave her on, and even if it looks clear. Stop means Stop.....

Guy i work with was trail riding his dirtbike in the back of the pack...got to the stop sign and he thought the guy in front of him was waving him on so he didnt stop....got pegged by a truck..spent two months in a hospital anf almost lost his leg...that was 15 years ago and besides all the other problems he has the doctors are now telling him he will loose his leg someday...and by the way after the fact he found out that the guy in front wasnt waving him on...he wanted him to come up to him and fix something on his helmet....so as stated above...stop means stop.
