Do not make the same mistake that one of our members did he went from a 07 Attack to AC 1000. AC engine gone in 500 Mi.

I thought the original REV was uncomfortable - it seemed to lean you too far forward. But it was popular - put Ski Doo on top and it hasn't looked bad since...

Russ I think Indy was talking 1st gen rev way more forward knees always bent more than 90 degrees. Xp and other brands are more comfortable. Taller guys or guys with bad knees usually didn't like feel of 1st gen rev. New rev xp defiantly less strain on knees and still a lot better on the back than the old sit down feet forward styles.
After riding a 4 stroke for a long time it will be a big adjustment to ride 2 stroke again, you seldom hear of people going "back". I too am a long time yam guy,three were 4strokes. that being said, i bought a 13 skidoo 1200 renegade and ride it when my wife lets me (she loves it). it's an amazing sled and still retains the goodness of a 4stroke . it is faster, smoother, quieter, lighter, better seating position and somewhat better ride quality than my 10 vec ltx. try one if you get the chance...best of both worlds!

This. Personally if I was looking for a trail sled and not concerned about going fast I would be looking at a 08 or 09 XP 500ss I've seen them under $4000 with less than 4k miles. Those motors went forever. My buddy has an 05 600 SDI rev I can't even ride the thing it doesn't feel right but that's just me.
I agreee with indy, my wifes 04 500ss had 14,000 miles and my 05 500ss had over 10,000 miles with no trouble at all we changed to Ski Doo 4 strokes. I thought they were plenty fast and got good gas milage at least 15 mpg.

Have owned 3 Revs with the 600 SDI. 2004 MXZ Adrenaline with 3000 miles when sold, a 2006 GSX bought new and sold with 3800 miles, and a 2007 Blizzard bought new and sold with 3500 miles. Never had a problem with any of them except for 1 handwarmer replacement. The engines were reliable and good mpg (16-18). But, technology has changed a lot since those sleds and newer models are even nicer!
Just curious - why did you switch to 4 strokes, if you are getting 14k and 10k out of 2 strokes getting 15 mpg's? It doesn't seem like you'd save a whole lot of operating costs by doing so - at that MPGs, you're probably not going through much oil either. Of course you may want to get 20k of those engines instead of 10k...

I may be misunderstanding this, but my 08 is a 600 SDI XP.
When anyone goes 4s it is all about the 4s engine broad powerbands + gas & go sleds no worries at all about engine meltdowns all the time he/she owns the 4s sled. Maybe want to change spark plugs at 12K maybe not just nothing to worry about charge battery in december done. To me if riding under 1000 miles a year buy a 2s get rid of it at 3500-4000 miles. This year I rode at least 3500 trouble free miles on Apex XTX my Attak had 10K trouble free miles before that doo 800 burndown at 3900 miles, AC 580 burndown @ 500 miles, doo 700 triple burn down 3000 miles. 4S ENGINES 2 @ ZERO problems...only 4s for me any brand.
Yeppers XP came out in 08... Rev 1 introduced 2003 with beaver tail then 04 went to hard tail. 2003-2007 Rev 1.

08 was the xp with the Sdi, 09 first year for etec. About the 500ss it's the small block 600 first made in the 99 mxz zx chassis. Them and the 700's were good lots of problems with 800. But the 500ss(600) is a carb engine and if you like that it's good but the reliability ( easer starting not fouling out spark plug etc.) fuel injection more hp better mpg less oil and oil smell is what you got with the Sdi 600 and now even better the etec. Just my .02

Someone at the Hiawatha in ER let me test ride a Rev several years ago and I remember feeling very awkward. Since then I have had two hips replaced and I have crappy knees. I have an Apex seat on my RX-1, and I like the positioning, but the back of my butt rubs on the seat back something fierce and it prevents me from stretching my legs. I figured that maybe it was just me on that old Rev, but if they didn't change it till the XP, and from all of your comments, I'm pretty sure I'm not interested in pre XP's. Guess I have to up the ante for something newer if I want a Doo.
Yamaha guys: ever get to that point where your Yamaha is SO reliable and predictable that it just gets kind of boring and you want something different? It happened with my SRX and Viper, now it's happening with my RX-1. Actually, the RX-1 is tippy, heavy, the pro-action doesn't do it for me anymore, and I'm tired of cleaning the carbs EVERY year. I love the engine, but I want something I can "throw around" a little bit without it trying to tip over on me. Something with a current rear suspension. I figured the SDI with its economy and emissions would be somewhat comparable to a 4-stroke. I never really had a huge problem with two-strokes to begin with. Anyway, my ideal sled (trail sled for me) would be lighter, economical, have a relaxed but forward ride, 121" track, good wind protection, great rear suspension, have reverse, and not be carb'ed.
Back to the drawing board.

I understand, that's what I tried to say in my post. I didn't have a problem with leg room as I'm not tall, but my knees did get achy after a few hours of being in the same position. Not an ache that stuck around for the duration of a trip though, unlike the sore backs of my pre-REV years!

Ya same here rather have legs and knees sore and tired than back sore. Had a 02 mxz 700 wife had 2000 mxz 500 she would keep up until the trail would get choppy then I could leave her and never see her until we stop, then got her a 03 rev and every time I looked back she was right there. Even on the trail 3 between twin lakes and houghton when it would get rough. That was really a game changer in the snowmobile world.
