Ban the Can

So if the roads permit and a biker wants to brave the winter cold of Yellowstone with a straight piped Harley it's totally OK?

Makes sense.

Never been to Yellowstone but do they allow hacked Harleys through there?

If they do that would be one heck of a hypocracy seeing as how during the winter only, a limited amount of very quiet sleds are allowed
in under very tight scrutiny.

Yellowstone is just one example of the double standard that is tolerated between two different forms of recreation vehicle use.

Took a hike up to the top of Mt. Blackburn last summer (Yellowstone Park) and heard nothing but wind and Hogs!

I am sure if HD's were crossing private property 90 days out of the year gassing it at 2am......... the private property owner would probably consider closing his property off to loud bikes.... louds bikes right now are on public roads and those roads are not going anywhere......loud cans are crossing private land and those trails can be closed at the property owners will............ lets not shoot ourselves in the foot debating loud HD bikes on public roads VS. loud cans crossing private land that's a privilege to all of us.

Im pretty sure the yellowstone regulations were all based on emissions....not noise. If so, once again an invalid argument. Its real simple with cans and it comes down to ONE word.....respect.

It's real obvious that the ban the can crowd has an agenda and the MSA announcement that
a still unknown section of trail will probly need a reroute due to SNOWMOBILE NOISE was the perfect spot to blow it open.

Alot of different opinions have been stated ....some reasonable some not so much, but when you avg out the opinions
it says most are OK with quiet versions of aftermarket silencers as long as they are used respectfully.
IMO...It doesn't matter whether it's a loud exhaust, tresspassing, excessive drinking, fuel and other theft etc. it comes down to how much respect
an individual has for his fellow sledder and the sport because ALL of these issues lead to trails being lost.

Personally I think peer pressure from fellow riders within a group could go a long way to keep trails open.

If there is an agenda it's to keep trails open. If that's the case, count me in the ban the can crowd.

Maybe it's been already said here but the

Harley pipes (on PUBLIC roads) vs. loud sled pipes (on PRIVATE land)

argument is old, tired and just plain NOT RELEVANT to one another!!!!!

Ok....I have an idea for all you people that want to compare Harley's to sleds.

Go onto any popular Harley Rider site (equivalent to the popularity of this site for snowmobilers) and shout out to them that "it's just not fair that Harley's can have loud pipes and us snowmobilers can't...I want loud pipes banned on Harley's".

Faster than you can read your fresh post, some "Son's of Anarchy" types are going to find out where you live (it can be easily done) and stop in for a little "chat" with you.

Go ahead......go for it!

Cans are the equivalent to scumbag diesel truck owners modifying their truck to belch soot... (Rollin Coal).

It makes everyone hate diesel, yet new diesel trucks are as clean or cleaner than gasoline trucks.

See now that coment scumbag diesel owners i happen to not appreciate i happen to be a diesel owner and i also happen to have a diesel that quote rolls coal now before i say this keep an open mind i build high performance snowmobiles trucks and cars. They have every right to roll there coal just like every guy or women with a fast car likes to do a burnout. Or how we boondockers like to play in the deep. So why bring the diesel guys into a snowmobile forum and FYI well over 75 percent of every diesel owner modifies tyere truck for better performance not just to pi$$ off the guy in a prius. Im a proud owner and builder of off road and performance vehicles but anyone with a brain knows that every single thing in the world has its down falls so dont let the few a$$ brains in the world who do like to tick off tree huggers and so on ruin how you look and talk about diesels because last time i checked my 875 rwhp powerstroke get better mileage performance and is an all around better vehicle than a stock one. Even if it rolls some (coal) every now and then. I like to think my rep on this site speaks for its self so i say this not to offend but to show the anti diesel people of the world that we are not all bad
