Post from FB from the guys who dynod it...

Are you ready for this!!?

For weeks I have been listening to customers and other dealers talk only about horsepower on the new 2017 Ski-Doo 850cc 2 stroke engine. Of course my curiousity got the better of me and I just had to take it to the next level and dyno the 850. I wanted to see not only the horsepower number but also the torque specs. Ok,in a nutshell, "THE POWER IS ARM WRENCHING!"
This engine has impressive torque and torque of course equals power.

The number........

170.4 Horsepower!

This 2 stroke has hard acceleration power. Now, imagine this torgue in a 4 Stroke, incorporated in the weight of a 2 Stroke platform.

In conclusion, this snowmobile dyno'd was a bone stock 2017 Ski-Doo MXZ-X 850. Absoltely no modifications and no timing added. IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES!

The biggest thing that is great news about this new 850 is better reliability. One of the guys on Dootalk actually got to test the new 850 against a current 2016 800 and he claimed it was about 2 sled lengths quicker in the midrange than the 800 but stayed that way all the way to top end.

To the posters that think it will run with the new turbo Yam/Cat.....keep dreaming. There is nothing like turbo 4S power. Word is it will not take much to turn the boost up to 240-250HP either.

I have a 1984 Polaris Indy 400 that's oil injected. Bought it brand new. Not sure about Doo. Thinking about same time period. Mid 80's?

Yup and sounds like the prototypes are not clutched very well, nor do they have any studs ;). Have to wait and see next year. Ill be the first one to lineup with a stock side winder in 660, but yea if they turn them up to 240-250 need to bust out the 1200 turbo.

But everything thing else i hear about the improvements to the chassis sounds good. Cant wait till december.

That's a complete 180!!! LOL!!!

It certainly was.
That is what happens when you don't ride for a few weeks, you go crazy.
Funny thing, my wife brought up the topic of "pre-ordering" and she said you know you are riding next year so just get what you want. I said maybe the Viper then, and she said you really didn't like it so why buy it? I said the deal is sweet at $8,800 and I really wanted to try a 4 stroke; she interjected, get the 850 (with the limited build maybe depreciation will not be too bad). So, I ordered anyway as the local Ski-Doo guy was ill and wanted to say hello.

Side note, I met your husband in January at the Watersmeet Casino gas station as we filled gas at the same time; he is a nice fella and good advocate for your property as well as the area...I wish you well this summer.

IMO, comparing a decompressed boosted 4 stroke to a big bore naturally aspirated 2 cylinder 2 stroke is kind of like comparing apples to cactus. Not really fair to either of these sleds. But i still cant wait to run them in 660 feet.
why now 1000 ft or a quarter mile, or across a lake!

First off, I have a wife, not a husband! LOL I'm a 54 year old male. :) Are you maybe thinking of Mrs. Runningbear?

I understand the 180 now! When the wife gives you the go ahead, the debate is over. :) I'm sure you will be happy.

no point a turbo clutched is still faster than any 2st in 660. look at what they race in the shaved ice and grass circuit 660 is a long track for that

My 2007 Attak is clutched REAL well and has a 136 Ripsaw II. On snowpack no 800 has been a match for it, not even in a short run. It reels 'em in in 100' or so if they get the holeshot and I easily walk away. My buddy has a supercharged Attak with 7 psi boost, 220 hp and his eats mine up. Its been noted the new SW/Tcat will also walk an Apex so that's a pretty good comparo. Not knocking the new 850, it has its purpose and I am glad we have so many choices. Its not all about who's the fastest bragging rights. There is so much more to the sport. I know there is a sector of the Doo buyers that want a turbo 1200 though. I think they'd need to address the long intake tract because that does cause a hesitation.

OOPS, it was Mr. Bear; I must have confused myself as I am Bear too.

Please excuse my ignorance, Bear

Haha because 660 or less is really the only way i would have a fighting chance. In the right hands a turbo sled will always have a clear advantage in a straight line over the 2 stroke twin...especially the farther you go, cant deny that. Fortunetely a lot of guys you run into run them bone stock with not enough studs and they are beatable. Doo didnt create the 850 to be a dominating straight liner, yamaha did.

I also know many who want a boosted 1200 from factory or some version of a boosted 4 stroke ala the mach Z. I think if this sidewinder/thundercat sells enough, doo will be forced to join in. I sure hope they doo but it wont be until atleast MY2019 IMO as next years lineup will likely bring the 850 G4 into the freeride and XRS platforms, and maybe even a new 600 to fit in the G4.

How are you sure this sled is only going to be a dominating straight liner? One would have to ride one to make that call IMHO. I have heard the Pro Cross chassis keeps getting better and better each year. Even many of the guys on Dootalk have come to an agreement that the 2016 Procross sleds rode about equal to their R Motion machines this season. Sounds to me they have come a long way since they introduced them.

My 2016 pro-cross 7000 LTD 137 rode awesome all winter, the only time it rode a little ruff was when I was towing my buddies (2 of them, both 15's) 800etecs home because of gernading.......... We (me & doo) buddies switched sleds a few times over the season, and the ride quality about the same in all conditions....Doo does feel nibble.

Silly Cat Owner - we all know Doo's don't grenade. J/K. How is the power and mileage of the 700?

For as much complaining as there is about nothing new, it sure seems like a lot of people are happy with the sleds that are out there now.

I'm not saying that's the only thing it will be good at all, not what I meant. But it does seem with Yamaha's marketing thru the whole pre-release with the leave comp in dust slogan and showing how fast it is, leaves me to believe they built it to win drag races and target that market. Heck the whole dealer video was of drag races. Which I like. Honestly if I had millions of dollars I would buy a thundercat. But the 850 is doo's biggest gun and I really think it will be an amazing all around sled, but unlikely to fair very well on the lake against the boosted thumper

Just got back from checking out a 850etec at a local dealer (Ecklund's in Appleton, WI) and the Gen4 chassis is nice! Looks better in person. Some nice improvements.

I ordered an all black non-X 850 Renegade "without" that stripe over the front of the nose. With the stripe it seems to make it look shorter than it really is making the carp look all too real...lol.

I was NOT able to go to Ecklunds as I am in Phoenix (AZ, not MI) but want to know two things;
-Is the battery in the rear and if so...where?
-Since they moved the oil to the left side hood (and supposedly moved the battery) what is under the right side hood?

Battery is behind the seat in a plastic enclosure. Right side under the hood is the muffler. Think the reason to move the oil tank was to keep the sled narrow and centralized.

I think you'll really like the new sled, it really looked good in person.

If I was in the market for a new sled in the 800 class, I'd go with it!

I rode the 7000 LTD 137 just over 3000 miles this year... absolutely loved riding it...pulls real nice up to 75mph, I topped her out 92mph...average 15.5-17 mpg regardless how I rode sled......
