Ordering 2 new 2018 Apex's for us, Love the colors!

Can't beat an apex for a high milage trail cruiser.....really hope they move that engine into a cat/new chassis next year.
The S.S. rear is a bit rough for this old spine (hopefully they have improved this)

Love the colors too...imo though...pricing is too close to the sidewinder...if the winder had eps...I think many of the apex fans, like myself would switch in an instant....better yet..put that engine in a pantera chassis...I'd buy one tomorrow..touring riders don't need a turbo...but we'd like a little more hp than the viper has...the 4 cylinder fits nicely between the viper and sw.

Attack man, you hit the nail on the head, its your money, and if one of the others get it for you, by all means, go for it! Been a die hard Cat guy all my life, but this Sidewinder has me wanting to jump the fence, yea some will say it still a Cat with a Yami decal. I do see suttle differences in each make, which does give them their own identity. I really like the color schemes on the Yammi's and believe it not, I feel like I'm changing brands going over to Yamaha.

What else is bizzare is that I'm on many other forums and from what I've been reading, a lot of peeps are jumping off the Doo train for the problems with bulkhead and motor problems, just the year before when Poo Axis came out. I'm not a hater, I agree with if you like Ski Doo, Arctic Cat, Yamaha, and Polaris, you should love or hate your brand as much as you want, because it was your money that bought that sled, but don't bash others for the their thoughts and feeling toward their brand of sled.

Not us, you couldn't give us that cat chassis. We will ride these a couple season and hopefully they come out with a New Yamaha chassis.

What model years did u have?? Because I can tell u...there is a huge difference in ride quality from 2014 to 2016...the QS3 shocks are amazing....they make the viper, a really nice ride...those 2014s, and 2015s..were too stiff imo....also I do know the viper chassis doesn't fit evetybody...some folks coming off vectors and Apex's don't like the rider forward seating...but...imo...when set up properly for rider weight...they ride far better than any of the old delta box yamis.

That would be awesome ;) who wouldn't love working in a sport you love? ;)

Answer; Every Snowmobile Dealer that has gone out of business in the past 10 years (probably about 300 of them). The ones that are still in business get to ride like once a year and are lucky to get a few hundred miles.

Disclaimer: I am a Ski Doo guy, with a 17 850X, 16X 600 and 13 600. This year i have 1700 miles on my 850.

I had the opportunity to ride two different 17 Yamaha's. Sidewinder and SR Viper. Both had 137 tracks, higher windshields, heated seats, DX models? Total of about 100 miles on sidewinder, a demo, and 65 on the Viper, a friends sled with 500+ miles on it. Very nice units, but on both, the seats were not soft or forgiving, and not comfortable at all. Is this unit specific, Yamaha specific, setup, what? I just could not see high mileage days with stiff seats like these. Just curious about thoughts.

I can understand your reaction same as me 2012 Apex XTX to Viper for 15 miles or so and unimpressed with the engine comparo not in the ballpark and ride not refined like Apex. Try Apex XTX to Sidewinder and I think you will feel differently ...I know I did. Right away the SW engine response is very good and the more rider forward position is all good. I felt I was nitpicking little things that were different than Apex like gauges and the location of hand warmers more of I just need to adapt than object except for EPS that I really missed. Put EPS on 18 SWs and I'm interested. Colors and graphics of SWs were always nice but why the heck no EPS????

Just more weight and IMO not needed on that chassis, it steers plenty easy.

IMO...it's already heavy...so what's another 20 lbs?? ...and yes...those of us that have it love it...it does work, and I think ALL 4 strokes should have it....I will tell you...my doo riding buddies want it on their 1200's, (after riding my apex)
IMO...If ski-doo added eps to their 4 strokes (especially on the touring sleds)...they'd convert even more people sitting on the fence.

I don't care about the 4s weight and disagree SW was a load to steer compared to EPS sleds. Yamaha engineering does not care about weight look at 2018 Apex new front shock single large resevoir and dampers on both Viper and Apex more concerned about benefits of devices not the weight to use them. If weight was so important to me I would not even consider a 4s sled. Weight does not affect me for trail riding groomed trails and plowed Frs as long as power and handling is good. If powder riding I would want the lightest sled out there but I'm not a powder rider. What is right for you just is not right for me we have different needs in sleds. I think something runs deeper with lack of EPS on shared cat chassis and Yamaha. So much low hanging fruit for both companies if they would use it on the 4s. Yes additional cost and weight but if weight is your only consideration then why are you thnking about a 4s....IMO wrong sled look at a 2s.

Seems to be more prevalent on the 137 models. The 141 I rode didn't seem to feel as heavy likely because of the uncoupled rear skid. Many owners of the 137's said they had to do some major adjustments to the rear skid to get it to steer better.....and toss the Tuners.

You guys are in the minority..big time. People dont want extra weight for the minor gain of easier steering..... The cat is yamahas best product bar none and IMO does not need eps. I quite frankly hate it...no feedback. Maybe time for some of you to hit the gym LOL!

I understand, We don't ride Apex's for the speed. Comfort, Quality and Looks is what makes us ride them. What's that chassis and turbo going to look like when it gets 8000 plus miles on it like our Apex' have, and still look like new.

The good old days!! Nowadays you don't see many new $13 thou sleds with different paint scrubbed into the side panels. It used to be commonplace to use your buddy to help you turn. I miss that. If everybody had 30 mph sleds it would truly be a blast.

I was thinking about that the other day. We rented Cat 440's from Evert's in Hancock when we were in college (around 2001 or so?) and rode them to Munising and back and had a blast. Slow on the grades but fun everywhere else since we all had the same sled. Super light sleds. Goal was to not lose any speed in the turns because you couldn't make it up when going straight...

One of the best times we ever had was when a bunch of our big horses all blew up and we had to ride spare sleds that we always bring along just in case. So here we go with 4 550 Pol fanners through the woods. It was a blast.

The turbo engine will be very good imo. I can't think of a bad Yamaha engine 2s or 4s over the years... too me very low risk... The cat Chassis?...I hear hear ya we don't know yet the Apex is solid as a rock 11K miles on my xtx and 12K miles on buds SE no chassis problems at all we both rebuilt shocks last year at the about the 9k mile mark.
