Not good. New Holland burns to the ground

By my guess, the replacement machine has arrived. Feel bad for the North Country club; 3 miles before seeing this we came upon their Pisten Bully caught up and stuck (after getting stuck last week as well)... I don't get to ride much anymore (usually just a weekend or two a season), but for the...

Anybody been doing any grilling or bbq'ing?

Nothing fancy Thursday night - just a tripod over an open flame with a veggie pack and home grown hamburgers afterwards. However, the location, weather, and company couldn't be beat!

    Still going......

Was about 10-15 miles from the area I think op Mike does a lot of his riding. Considering it's April 23rd and we really haven't had much winter weather since late January it's amazing how the snow pack is holding on.

How far into the UP for snow

Trail untouched from driving past it this morning to an hour ago. Definitely hard to drive past a freshly groomed, untouched trail that has been like that all day!

How far into the UP for snow

Once you get out of town things drastically improve (below pics as examples). I was between Houghton and Twin Lakes Tuesday and Wednesday (before the fresh snow) and saw numerous trail crossings like these. Things aren't going to be perfect, especially in town. But if you come up you'll have...

How far into the UP for snow

Got about 3-4 inches of fresh snow here in Houghton on Thursday night. The pictures below show what is like in town right now, at the places which run out of snow first.

Where you riding this week/ weekend

345 miles ridden this weekend with family & friends in the Western U.P., and I would call 300 of those miles very good to mostly excellent. Huge shout-out to clubs putting in the effort to get so many miles groomed overnight when temps cooled down!

    Smorgasbord at Henry's Inn, Rockland

Does anyone know if Smorgasbords are happening at Henry's Inn this winter? I know a year or two ago Henry and/or Sally were dealing with some health issues that cause them to cut back; just wondering if Smorgasbords on Friday and Saturday nights have made a reappearance. Thanks!

    Portage Canal Ice, Houghton

Woke up this morning to an email saying someone on snowmobile went through the ice between Chutes & Ladders and the Ramada last night. This morning looking out my window the portage is nothing but discolored slush surrounding the bridge and towards the Ramada crossing. Given that this area of...

    Southern Keweenaw Update...

...Well, more of a shout out / tip-of-the-cap / thanks to the Superior and North Country snowmobile clubs. Today my parents and I rode from Freda to Lake of the Clouds and back and every mile of trail of these two clubs we rode had been freshly groomed last (Thursday) night. Sure, there was a...

    South Range - Greenland ride - 1/27

Just got back from a 95 mile ride from South Range to Greenland via 13 and then back on 3. There is plenty of snow, however it is all sugar. If wondering whether the Keweenaw Trail Services (poor to fair) or Superior (good to excellent) club's account of trail conditions on MSA is more accurate...

Forest County, WI Ride - 12/30

Just got home from a 120 mile ride from Townsend up to north of Hiles and back. Nearly all of the 100 Miler, LMT, and Black Bear Sportsmen club's trails had been groomed in the past two days, making those trails as good as they possibly could be given the low amount of snow. To echo what has...

    Fall Colors

Was out and about both days this past weekend - Saturday in the Keweenaw and Sunday in the Huron Mountains. Both areas I would estimate were a few days away from true peak, although as long as there isn't too much rain/wind this week there will still be plenty of color around up here next...

    Fall Colors

The area of the Hurons I was mainly in this weekend had very little color change, however was only a few miles away from the big lake.

    Door County, WI

Sort of sad to say I spent 18 years growing up at the base of the Door peninsula and I still can't hardly come up with anything... Granted, Northern WI was always more my style :) Anyways, a couple things come to mind from snowmobiling up there: stop at P.C. Junction for a meal (deliver...

    HOUGHTON (Keweenaw) UPDATE (WITH PICTURES)

After seeing a couple of horrible reports, I spent the last hour driving around the Houghton/Hancock area visiting trail crossings to get a better idea of how things are. My thought is always that city conditions should generally be worse than nearly anything away from town. I will let the...

    Kewaunee/Door County trails now open

Just got back from a 195 mile ride, that covered everywhere from near the Manitowoc County line all the way up to Jacksonport in central Door County. The very large majority of the miles (~160) I would consider to be good to very good condition. The main exceptions to this being a couple clubs...

    Kewaunee/Door County trails now open

Seeing that I have a couple days off, decided to come home and enjoy the snow back here. Both Algoma's Tucker and the tractor were out tonight, and nearly every mile of Algoma's trail system got two passes over the course of the night. It also looked like all three of the other main Kewaunee...

    Algoma (Kewaunee Co.) WI Update

Just wanted to give an update on how things are shaping up as this area was one of the big winners of last week’s storm. Fortunately, the club (Algoma) I am associated with was able to get out right away last Tuesday night after the storm and begin packing things down. The tractor and drag...
