$10 Fee increase for Michigan Trail Pass next year

I don't worry about sticker fees folks...think about this....my friends were not happy about buying the michigan sticker last year...so we took our annual trip to another area in wisconsin rather than go to our usual UP spot..we stayed 3 nights...the trails were good...but...our rooms were 90 dollars a night....where as in michigan they would have been under 50!!! If we had gone to michigan, and bought stickers it would have been a savings of nearly 90 dollars!!!! I made sure the boys heard about it at the bar our last night of the trip...once I showed them the math they felt stupid...this year it's back to michigan...so what if you ride there once a year, if you get your rooms cheap enough, you can SAVE money....it's far cheaper in some areas of michigan, than it is in northern wisconsin.

Or you could do like me and get a truck camper and pay zero in hotel costs.

Geeze Jesse9131, you sound like a ton of fun to be around. Too bad you are going to be going to Colorado to do all of your riding. I would have loved to hook up and ride with you here in MI.

Thanks for all the well researched info though!

I can't believe more people aren't more outraged with an 80% increase in two years.

Well, as I have said. I am not happy with the increase, but I guess I figure in the whole scope of things a 20 dollar increase in my snowmobile expenditures for the YEAR is not a big deal. Perhaps I even think that the $25 fee was unusually low and $45 is more in line with all the expenses involved in the sport. I know that just to fill up my sled for ONE RIDE is going to cost me far more than 20 more than it used to a few years back. But I guess that is a complaint for a different thread!

I think they are set for 5 years now. The drastic increase was done to create cash for certain priorities such as purchasing easements. But Jesse won't care about that.

I guess by your thinking then easements must cost far less in MN, WI and CO.

Give it up already. It is what it is, your not going to pay to ride here anyway, so why continue? You have nothing to complain about. Peace Ouuut!-Mezz

The sad thing is you'd probably still be saying that if it was $100 for a sticker. Please think back to many many years ago when you were young and ask yourself when you were in your teens if you would've been able to pay $45 for a trail pass. Heck you'd probably not even be in this sport now.

Yes if you wasted money and bought a new truck and camper but I guess if you don't mind paying $45 for a trail pass then you don't mind wasting money.

Think about this a trail pass in Colorado is $30 and they already have plenty of snow to ride and most likely will right up until the end of April.

I don't believe the money is going toward added cost of tractors and fuel. If it was then how does Minnesota groom 16,000 miles of trails compared to our 6,000 and only charge $30 every two years? Be on the look out for extra police on sleds hired I am convinced this is where the money is going. It's just another tax like all other fees in MI.
