Hi guys I have a 2012 rush 800 it has 3200 miles on it and it blew up the other day. My clutch side piston has a chip out of the exhaust side and my right side piston got mangled up pretty good what would cause this? I Always let the sled warm up and I usually ride hard but in this instance I was just cruising and had my gf on the back. I always keep the oil full on every ride I've been running premium gas. The sled was also running right around 127 degrees and never had any det light problems before that day. Any ideas why this would blow at only 3200 miles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can I get some extra butter on my popcorn?

Sorry, couldn't resist. There's a known problem with the 800 engine. I'm sure many will chime in...

I feel your pain....just got my cat back.... only 1800 miles when she blew....we had 4 sleds in my group go down this year...all different brands...different years ...2011 was newest....2003 was oldest...all had varying miles.

I was told heat caused mine...don't know for sure....bad gas?? snow dust?? Could the abnormally cold weather be causing these blow ups??...I'd like to know too.

I hear them 800's got excessive piston slap. There is a cylinder to case spacer sold with new pistons available in the aftermarket that supposedly is a fixer.

Poor tolerance pistons too much play and they rock in the cylinder. Wossener makes very good pistons or if your cylinders are chewed up the 858 rk ten kit kicks arse!

hey indy : unless the piston in the picture above turned sideways in the bore , i think thats detonation , slapping doesnt melt aluminum . free refills on popcorn if you go large !

I would do rk tec

u say a chunk came out did it go out the pipe or down in to the case ?
if it went down or u don't know it could be a lot worse than a top end.
I have seen 2 800s a 11 and 12 with good size crack to actual holes in the case from piston skirt trying to spin with the crank lobe.

Was there any year that Polaris built a good 800 that would stay together for more than 5000 miles? Seems we have been hearing about the 800 motors falling apart for 10 or more years.

does anyone know if there might be an inferred mileage program change to the ecm , i know the pistons are too short in the skirts ( i like short tight skirts ) , is it possible that at 4k miles the ecm leans it out too much or puts more timing ?therefore heating up and tightening pin , causing piston to turn ? , with the poor fuel we have it a disaster waiting to happen , just a thought . any poo engineers out there ?

Good question
Mine was replaced about 300 miles before blow up. Right around 4,200 miles.
