You don't have to move that far north to be outdoorsy. I plan on moving to Central Wis someday. Cheap land, good lakes, two hours from the Northwoods and you only have to freeze your butt off 4 months instead of six.

HOLY CRAP THE SEASON IS A BUST. Its December people get a hold of your self I mean seriously do u expect Feb ridding through out the whole u,p or something. There is plenty of good riding to be had so what you gotta drive an extra hour deal with it. And as for weather forecasts. John your the best but it's all subject to change no one can really predict mother nature and when or where the snow fall's down to the very last min. Heck 3 years ago we almost cancelled a trip because it was supposed to rain but we didn't and instead,of rain good old Trout lake gave us 13 inches of snow. Weather is an educated guess with no guarantees except frustration . So STAY POSITIVE AND NO MORE CRYING OR COMPLAINING. We all love this sport other wise we wouldn't do what we do year after year........

AND ALWAYS REMEBER NEVER RIDE FASTER THAN YOUR GUARDIAN ANGLE CAN FLY

yea its friggin hilarious..early dec and seasons a BUST..omfg

I'm still heading up to the UP tomorrow morning. I'm not scared of a little warm weather and if it stays somewhat cloudy both Friday and Saturday I bet riding will be great. I will take some pictures of trail condition as we make our way to Copper Harbor. The only time I'm a little worried will be early afternoon on Saturday, I think Friday will be great. I remember last year which I consider a great winter, we did not have rideable snow until x-mass or shortly after in my area. Relax and have faith!

good luck going to copper..usually first to bust out(trail anyway)

I understand things can change quickly but it sure looks like we are F'd with this weather pattern for having any hope of riding right after Christmas.
In northern WI.

my god except for last year n wi hasnt had much for most areas all season for years..i grew up in presque isle basically..i remember SNOW..what u get in vilas now is very spotty overall..hence the KEE

There is snow out there...it's just thin in spots, and we had some hunting here in north central wisconsin....do what you have to do...I understand it...it sucks to drive miles to ride in marginal conditions.....BEEN THERE>>>DONE THAT...moved up north for that very reason.... I no longer own a trailer as I can ride right out my back door (the only thing that sucks is when my CAT blows up...lol...that is my only need for a trailer), and only once in the last 10 years have I not been able to ride between XMAS and new years...for all of you down south getting angry about our snow conditions...I don't know what to say...other than .....I live here and ride here, and maybe you should too john moved up to the Yoop...for the same reason, I and many other sledders moved to northern Wisconsin, and the YOOP...to ride our sleds.... (so badly want to say something smart assed to you crabby "non snowbelt " people)....lol

hahahahahahhahahaha..u tell em

- - - Updated - - -

and that's the trade off....not many good jobs here.....you won't get rich, and you will work your *** off...but...u also won't be locking your doors...you will know that your kids go to a good-safe school...and you will meet a lot of good people...money isn't everything...and snowmobiling isn't the most important thing in life...but sure is fun, and can make life more enjoyable if you can do the things you like (fishing, camping, hunting, snowmobiling, swimming..etc)
I did what I had to do...I was meant to be up here....keep in mind if you are married...the northwoods might not be good for your marriage (depending on the type of girl you are married to)....I moved my first wife to the YOOP...to South Range....needless to say...after 300 inches of snow that winter...she was not impressed, and we soon there after divorced...lol....if you have an outdoorsy girl, who ride, or fishes, or hunts...your life will be very good up here...a shopping, fancy car...need to shop girl... will be miserable up here

dam it..i bought one of dem girls..shulda found me one in cammo...hahahahhahahahahaaha....i made it as far as mid MN from chitown..trying still to get her a little further north..hehehehehheheheh..but unlike most of these cryers on here..im not afraid to trailer to the YOOP!!!!!

Yeah that sucks to have no snow when it's time to have snow, would drive me crazy in Northern Illinois when I could barely ride some years. 98 El Nino season was the worst, could only ride the lakes about 3 weeks. Thats why i just went for it and moved to Ironwood almost 5 years ago. My wife loves the UP except when winter goes on too long into spring.......Possible new casino, convention center and hotel to come in the nearby town of Wakefield at Indianhead Mountain, hope so would mean lots of jobs before its opening and during. County voted today to approve it. Passed 5 to 1 vote....PS sorry getting off track.

wow..interesting..indeanhead..our old stomping ground..oh those were the skiing days before i found a real mountain out west..kinda in the same sleddin boat i guess..havent been out west yet..maybe a good thing..never skiid again in the midwest

Congratulations on your move! No doubt we love the winter but the other 3 season's are just as amazing! And i wouldnt give up on winter yet cause a couple years ago it was slow and then really kicked into high around the 2nd week of Janurary and didnt let up until late may.

Not going to lie, the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread title last week was all the Wisconsin fans seemingly jumping off of bridges after the loss to Duke... good grief people.

Haven't read through all 100+ posts so maybe this has been mentioned already, but just remember 2 years ago in which there really wasn't rideable snow until after January 1st. Yet, on the Keweenaw, it still snowed 300+ inches, trail conditions were good until the END OF APRIL, and if you knew where to look there were riding opportunities well into May.

NO Bridge jumping by me...Duke is damn good, and so are the badgers....too early to panic...I think the badgers have a good shot to be in the final four...if they make it great...if they don't...they were still one heck of a fun team to watch the last couple of years.... and Badger football...while I didn't like watching us get spanked like that..they just weren't as good as some people thought...not bad...just not great...still in a new years day bowl game, and I will take it...too many people forget the 70's and 80's...back then badger fans would have killed to go to the holiday bowl...lol...I am enjoying the success each program has been having lately...enjoy it while it lasts.
And...I still have the packers to root for...the defense is not great...but Aaron Rodgers is fun to watch...I guess we will see how far they go....and in between working.. watching football, basketball, and hockey (red wings fan)...I guess I will get some riding in. :)

Hello,
Not to be too disruptive of your post but my perception of why Ski-Doo dealers had no inventory a month ago was because the jerks at BRP did not make and/or ship the darned sleds. I live in Outagamie county and am still waiting for my March 2014 ordered 2015 600 E-Tec Renegade with free 3 year warranty for 10k flat. I am not happy, I could have went up to the U.P. last week and could leave tonight for another two dayer. Poor service etc.! What do I do? The alternatives are nil in this class of sled for price, quality, value and resale.

Sad and frustrated.

Hello,
My sled came in today, gonna ride anywhere I can.

Bye, Frank

HEY! I thinks Me might have found de answer eh!

Anyways,........

I was getting my hopes up locally the last couple days because it was cloudy when they were
calling for sunshine,... and the temps were lower than the highs they were predicting!!! Yahoo!!!
But today,.... Ah shucks,.... not so much.
So as I look out the window at the foggy 40 degree temps melting the dirty snow,... I got to thinking,....
What if all our good friends up on the NORTH side of the Big Lake, AND everyone on the SOUTH side of it,...
Got EVERY SINGLE FAN AVAILABLE,.... Pointed them Directly S O U T H,.... and turned them on HIGH???
Maybe it would create enough North to South Air Flow to Generate the next Polar Vortex??? and Bring Lake Effect
all the Way Across the Midwest? Causing an unheard of man made winter event for the ages that would last
through May?!!!!
The Yetti's and BigFoots and Creatures of stories past would come out of hiding and wonder what in the heck
is going on? Beer sales would soar, and the,......(wake up vin,.... wake up,...)

....Sorry

The warm weather was making me delusional
:(

Back to online Christmas shopping
:(

Ba Humbug.

Was a good dream though.

Carry on!,.... THINK * SNOW!!!!!
(Think Harder!!!!!)

Two years ago the season start sucked bad! I did not get to the U.P. until the second weekend in January! But, then it snowed, and snowed, and snowed, and snowed some more! My last weekend riding up there was the first weekend in MAY!

We all get the itch to ride early in the season, but, honestly, the best riding is later in the season.

Think snow peeps!

Received my sled on Thursday the 11th of December, put 10 miles on it before all the snow melted in Green Bay. Now it is parked in the garage again. I even thought of winterizing it now that winter is over.
