2015 Polaris Pro RMK... Wyoming, Colorado

I went mountain snowmobiling last year and I got hooked so bad I bought a new sled..... We rented 2015 Arctic Cat M8000, but I bought a 2015 Pro RMK because it is lighter and I thought it would be easier for me to handle even though I was worried about the durability of it engine wise. Well I just got back from my 1st trip to Wyoming and I believe the sled was much easier for me to handle than what I remember of the Cat....

Question.....We had great snow (fresh 3 feet or so) and sometimes the sled would bog out when under power at lower throttle settings. If you got on the throttle it would power thru it and be fine... Also the headlight assembly showed some moisture inside of it.... I stopped at the local dealer and they said they would check it out, but if they couldn't find anything warranty related it would be $263....So...I called Polaris and talked to customer service and Heather told me that the warranty doesn't cover diagnostics.... So now I am very unhappy, more like pissed, and I am possibly going to call Polaris back and talk to Heathers Boss......

Is this anything to worry about? The engine bog, and moisture in the headlight assembly.... I guess I would not expect this from a brand new sled on its 1st trip....I would think it would run right and if it didn't Polaris would look at it for no cost....They could look at it for a week and not be able to duplicate the engine bog...There will be more sleds in my future and I would not hesitate to buy a yellow or green one... Help / opinions ....Thanks..

Well I must of got a good one, no issues here. Was the tps packed with snow? We're the air intake vents packed with snow at time of bog? How many miles on sled?

The air intakes vents were open....The sled had 0 miles on it when I took it there and has 150 on it now...It happened the 2nd day so maybe 40 miles....Not sure about the tps.....It felt to me like it was a moisture issue with electronics but that's just a guess....Thanks.

That is also what I'm thinking.

a lot could be clutching . if say u were bogging at low speed throttle and snow was a bit sticky and u were clutched a bit heavy for altitude u were at it could cause a bog till the rpm gets back up. I always clutch a few grams lighter than recommended for elevation . if snow it total fluff and I am over revving I can add a few grams . but really U are not wfo very long any way and I like a bit more of a free spinning /revving motor .

Ah.....I didn't know that would matter.....Why would that bog the motor tho? .... I put the 10-60 clutch weights in it....We went out of Albany lodge in Wyoming and it happened up top so I think we would have been around the 10,000 ft mark.....I think...

would the snow in the front matter?

not saying it is the issue but few more question some one with a pro may have answers to. is secondary spring the same for 6to 8 as 8to10feet?
but if it was happening at 10k most of the time and U were clutched for say 8kfeet it would explain a lot.
if clutched for say 6k to 8k and u were at 10k it would deff bog out under low load .
I see my 14 sled there lol

10-58 for 10-12k ft
Black secondary spring under 8k ft
Black/Purple secondary spring over 8k ft.

Add in deep fresh powder, I would probably change weights first.

My guess is your exhaust was plugged. I thing diagnostics charge is bs, I've ever got charged when bringing my sleds in.

I don't think so... But they did ask me about changing the springs... But from what I remember the dealer asked me about my riding ability... And I said I was a new rider so he didn't think I would notice or it would matter for the differences in clutch springs Vs the 10 60 clutch weights.....

Is that because it is a local dealer you know?

Didn't think of that...... Makes sense because it was so intermittent....

Were you running pre-mix fuel? If you were, perhaps it was running a little rich combined with altitude? Also, even 150 miles, I don't think you're 100% broken in. Doubt that is the bog issue (new motor) but clutch weights might have something to do with it.
Look on the bright side, you're still under warranty with a great sled so you should be having fun and not worrying about it too much!

One other possible issue to think about. I think I read somewhere that RMK'S sold at midwest dealers are mapped differently than ones sold in the west. If the base mapping is different, the ecm may not be able to adjust it lean enough at 10k.

That's incorrect.

I could swear I saw it somewhere that RMK's ordered by midwestern dealers would be shipped with different mapping. My bad if it's wrong. Just throwing it out there.

I read something about something along those lines for older sleds, like 05-07 era, but never confirmed it to be true. My 08 had nothing like that. And my PRO RMK certainly has nothing like that either. I have had my trail sled SB over 10k ft as well and it performed flawlessly. All my sleds have be purchased in WI.
If something like this were to be true, we would certainly know about. Same for Doos. I don't know about Cat, but I can't imagine it's any different. Ezra?

I will say, Midwestern sleds don't always come with the proper clutching for high elevation.

Welcome to the club. Same bug bit me!

I love my 2015 pro. I do have the same bog. I think it is clutching. Almost like the track is stuck and the belt is burning. Or the clutch is binding. I changed my spring. I think I have black/purple.

My sled is in the shop now. Electric start went out. Turned out to be a bad ground. Lets see if warranty covers it.

you made a great choice of a mountain sled. Those cats always like to climb trees. HAHA

This is really bugging me now cuz I know I made that mental note for a reason. It was fairly recent, like the past year or 2. Maybe it was the SKS would have a different map than the pro? But I specifically recall reading something about "Midwestern dealers".

Who knows, maybe it was just something that caught my eye amongst the piles of worthless dribble I read on the internet every day! Ha ha:p
