Just got letter from Athem Blue Cross & they will no longer offer health insurance to the WI northwoods residents but will insure my wife & daughter for 1 more year & increase our costs $1000. I had a feeling something goofy was happening since my doctor had posters all over his office that he will not accept Athem Blue Cross & that was in July. I'm on Medicare with full suplemental not with Athem Blue Cross so I'm in very good shape but now have to get into exchanges for best insurance deal for my younger wife & daughter. CNBC news said gov exchange websites are hoplessly locked maybe 6 weeks if can be fixed at all so Gov offical said use telephone for applications. Anybody know that 800 number my WildBlue internet is going to make it worse for me no hi speed internet available from home. Thanks in advance need some help here.

Actually, I think you have been mislead. The insurance on the exchanges is not government insurance. It is private insurance from places like Humana, Blue Cross, etc. The consumer shops for the insurance plan they want, then determines if they are eligible for a subsidy. This is "regular" insurance, not gov't insurance.

I understand the coverage is through private insurance companies. I also understand, those private insurance companies WILL be getting money from the gov't to subsidize those payments. The vast majority of people without insurance today, are the ones who will qualify for those subsidies based on household income, the FPL (Federal Poverty Level), predetermined rates, and family size among other things.

This is going to be fun!

Don't forget that 9% of the population buys private insurance, roughly 27M people. So, this is not just for the uninsured.

I have not heard how much mine is going up yet, buy my co-worker just got word his health insurance is going up 30 percent as of Jan 1st. This is through Dean Care HMO here in south central Wi. That is an increase of 180 a month. I guess we will see after a year of Obamacare if it goes back down, I have a feeling it won't.

go DOWN after a year? hahahahahhahahhahahahahhhaahhahahahhahahahahahahhahahaha'

In my girlfriends department at a well known central wisconsin based clinic, which is Radiology, there are 3 girls who do the scheduling for a few of the centers. After AHA they will no longer be qualified to do the same job they have been doing for 10 years or more. They have gone to school for what they are doing, but now will need to be a Medical Assistant to schedule, a position who makes more money. In my mothers case, she works at a private clinic and to do the same procedures they have been doing for years, and they do not accept any form of government benefits at this clinic, they will be required to have another RN on staff. These are the first two people I have talked to about how the AHA affects the hospital side of things. Two instances that costs will increase, and one will be very significant. RN's are not cheap! If costs are going to go up in the clinics and hospitals, how will they go down on the insurance side to consumers. Answer; they won't! When is the last time the Government stepped in and decreased a cost?

The American Medical Association has weighed in on Obama's new health care package. The Allergists were in favor of scratching it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves. The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve. Meanwhile, Obstetricians felt certain everyone was laboring under a misconception, while the Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!" The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it. Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and the Internists claimed it would indeed be a bitter pill to swallow. The Plastic Surgeons opined that
this proposal would "put a whole new face on the matter". The
Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea. Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and those lofty Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington.

I just couldn't wait to hear what the proctologists had to say about it. That there is funny stuff!

Is this the same administration that said this back in 2006?:

Sen 0bama 3/20/2006 - 'The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.'

How ironic.

Can you ask your girlfriend to state the specific article of the legislation they are using to get rid of the three workers? I assume its the employer using a ploy to dump the employees. If not, I do write my legislators and I want to mention the specific piece of legislation and I want to reference it, but I wouldn't bring it up without concrete evidence to support my case.

I will ask, but I can tell you they don't want to dump the workers. Unless they have someone lined up, they have been streamlining and they are scheduling for more than one center, so they have been super busy, and would be a major pain to try to make changes all at once. She did say it had something to do with having more knowledge on why certain patients need certain procedures, sounding as if the girls would be held accountable as to why these procedures would be scheduled. Maybe the plan is to have medical assistants question the Docs on weather or not a procedure is necessary.

Have you been able to get through? I hear the website went down again today. What a joke so far!

Gave the 800 number to my wife since the policy is for her & our 23 year old #4 daughter. I have been off that policy for a year now & getting to know Medicare + my supplemental insurance which is a full time job but seems to be really good healthcare combination. I had a heart attack scare summer of 2012 got overheated doing dumb stuff in 99 degree heat & they had the chopper ready to go from Eagle River to Wausau. Lucky for me I bounced back quickly & I was released that evening to the tune of $18,000. I was in the ER maybe 4-5 hours & racked up $18 grand bill! Crazy expensive sure glad I had medicare & supplemental didn't cost me a penny but the kicker was after all that no one knows what happend to me saying at best might have been a heart shock what the heck is that?lol
