Anyone else get a ticket for NOT stopping at a Mass City trail stop sign???

Apperantly you have never riden with a large group of bikers. I couldn't tell you how "legal" this is, but that's the way it works....like it or not. And going around them wouldn't be the smartest decision. Just sayin. As far as doing this on sleds.....I was making a funny :) (sense of humor is OK)

Going around them wouldn't be a smart decision? Why, because you are allowed to ride illegally because you are in a large group? Then the 20 sleds I ride with shouldn't ever have to stop. Highway 41 northbound on a Friday night traffic can just stop for us.

It's people like you guys who give all motorcycle riders a bad name. "just sayin" I dare you to come after me on your bike when I'm in my car and I go around Mr. arm waver, esp if I don't have a stop sign/yield sign or red light. What are you going to do, shake your fist, and say things loudly?

I thought the signs were only used to decorate the posts they are mounted on.

Those posts can be quite an eye-sore.

We're going to go to court and see if we can get at least a reduction in the fine.. the dnr guy was pretty far away, but I think he could clearly see that I gave my bud behind me a thumbs up because there was no traffic.. and yes our stop signs in Minnesota very closely resemble your Michigan stop signs. Kind of...

OK everyone, this is taking on an unfriendly tone.. my intention was to give everyone a heads up to be on their best behavior in mass city. I tried using a little humor to mask my embarrassment of getting my buddy a ticket. Love the u p and all the great folks in it. Like I said in my initial post, I'm mad at myself, not the DNR guy. It did help to vent on here but good god!!! I think we all need therapy due to the lack of snow...

I stop my truck for sledders all the time as 10 trail runs across FR on my way to town. No big deal for me to watch out for my fellow Jd buds.:)

Be careful who you pull your glock out at because you never know who else is carrying..... and what they are carrying... And if I saw you standing in the road with your arms waving to "block" traffic when I had the right of way (IE no stop/yield sign, no red light, etc), I would indeed go around you and continue on my way weather there is 3 of you or 77.
Ya never know, I may be waving because of a bridge out ahead! lol. Sun came out! what time of day does the ground hog look for a shadow.

OK guys, let's go to our happy place...

Relax and think about a perfectly groomed U P trail with a fresh 6" of snow on it... fresh pasty or Mary Ann from Krupp's chicken cacciatore in your belly, not a bump for miles.... Sled's running perfectly on your full tank of sea and snow.... Gas just went down 50 cents a gallon..

The member must not of wanted it to stay or someone else deleted it so I won't repeat it, but agreed with poster. Tried to quote it, it wouldn't let me, then it was gone!!

I have been on a bunch of large motorcycle rides. Charity events, memorial rides, veterans rides, etc and the people blocking traffic help with everyone's safety. It keeps the group from getting to spread out and people passing in bad situations to catch back up to the pack. What you are saying is you would go around a guy that is holding up traffic so a pack of a 100 motorcycles could go threw? Right into the middle of a memorial ride? And that would be very safe right? How does he give motorcycle riders a bad name by doing this? It is the way things are done. I have ridden from Coast to coast and miles upon miles and it is the same everyplace.
Also I am from the UP and you can sit at any stop sign and watch, how many people actually stop? Not many. Yes the cop was right, stop means stop but he could sit at any stop sign in the UP and hand out tickets to people in cars all day long. That does not make the actions of the DNR officer correct. Yes it is the law but as they say on ESPN Come on Man!

If I got a ticket for a stop sign I would fight. If you know how many stop signs are illegally posted, it would shock you. I have four illegally posted stop signs in my subdivison alone. I run them hoping someday a cop would see me and give me a ticket, so I can throw it back in their face. LEO and clubs can not legally post stop signs. Check out Michigan State statues, google the MUTCD, and get the offical designation of the trail. With enough investigation you would probably win.

Thanks for the info!! I'll check it out. There are regs to put up a stop sign. It does seem like its more of a heads up on The trails instead of a compulsory command like it is in normal vehicle traffic. In our club, we put up stop signs as an aid to identify coming up to a road. Never dreamed I was putting up an enforcable traffic control device. Dang, I'm a DOT engineer!!!
