Are you changing your driving habits yet ?

The last time gas went way up we changed our habits, and pretty much have stuck to the new habits ever since.

I fill up once a week, so does my wife, I have 62 miles a day, she has 50. Last weeks fill ups were 50 bucks each, both cars get 24-27 mpg. That is 400 a month in gas, basically to get to work and back. Add that to my health insurance increase, and we are at 928 a month. So, my $125 dollar 1983 Yamaha Maxim will be coming out pretty fricken soon. LOL. We've also discussed staying at her moms one or two nights a week, if gas gets really out of control, that would put me with a 20 mile drive, and my wife with about a 6 mile drive, or walk.

And before anyone says buy a car with better mpg, both cars are paid for. :)

Gotta love those in-laws!!!!

Nope

Don't have to, I have a company truck and they pay for ALL the gas. My wife only drives 5 miles each way to work a day and we live 1/2 mile from all the grocerry stores and all of her family and my family (excluding 1 bro that lives in wisconsin) live within 12 miles of each other. We pretty much keep doing the same thing as always, drive the work truck more than her car and go visit everybody when we feel like seeing them.

If the prices start really hitting our pockets we will probably shift our priorities, I would rather eat a couple fewer meals out a month and still use the boat, ATV's and head up north than eat out more and have to stay home...

Will do the same things, just a bit more of a sting. Wife drives 6 miles to work, 20mpg convertable. I rarely drive unless its for work, they pay. When we run to the Keys to fish and dive we run a 250 ford diesal, 17mpg. 2-300 mile round trip. Might look into storage down there, but that would cost more than trailering, but easier and they wash the boat down after use. Ready when you get there. Its nothing to burn 50 gallons in 2 days. Marina prices are sky high here but they have fuel boats that will come to you, and no road tax. Also no ethenal in the fuel. I purchased 3 oil stocks 4 years ago to fight back, I will never use as much fuel as I made, they all are up 100 to 200% Gotta retire someday. So keep on burning as much as you can.

I bike to work, 9 miles each way. (the kind you pedal...) Mountain biking is my main form of recreation in the other 9 months of the year so....nope! not much to change, maybe faster tires for the bike?

PR1, You're either joking or garbage, the choice is yours.

Yes have changed sum for me.
No more start the truck up to warm up for a few minutes.
Shut truck off for fueling/running into the store.
Only drive if i have to and try to make as many trips as possible doing multiple tasks.

Work is slow now so that helps but with diesel 3.83 a gallon and riseing this summer looks to be a exspensive one. If i didnt need the truck and it wasnt paid for i'd consider getting a car but the little saveings each week compared to upfront car cost and insurance as well as matinece on 2 vehicals just dont seem to be worth the money either.

Ok dr doo, u can hate on me, but i broke down and bought a Prius. At 50 miles to the gallon, its the best investment I've made this year. My paid off 04 GMC 2500 HD was costing me 85 a week to drive back and forth to work. The cost of gas for the truck pays for the car and puts 50 extra bucks in my pocket at the end of the month. That includes putting gas in the Prius!

I would have been the first to agree with all if you, but I was going to need a third car this fall for eldest daughter anyway. So bit the bullet and never regretted, actually thinking about selling the bike! The car gets better gas mileage. :) And yes my cars are paid for except for the new one.

Now I'm worried about what the earthquake did to the Prius plant over there in Japan, how hard is it going to be to get parts?

Just filled up the Expedition for $ 107 gotta luv it and I go thru a tank and a half a week, now my 4 door 350 diesel dually with a 90 gallon reserve tank and a 38 gallon main tank costs $525 a fillup. So what I doo is drive faster so I get there quicker so I got less time 2 B pissed off about the enegry policies in DC.Yaa know they have develop well fracting now that would make our oil and gas reserves larger than all the middle east and the fricking EPA is holding up the development of this procedure.

Just swapped my trailblazer for a taurus. A conservative estimate for fuel savings based on our driving habits was $150 to $200 per month. Not a huge savings but the the taurus is white and looks like a police car. It's fun to pull up to someone quick from behind and watch them sweat as they gaze into their rear view mirror!

Ride a bicycle. not for me. pulled a groin muscle once.. lighten up. H.D., polaris, Sea Ray and Chevrolet do not build anything with pedals that I would want. To each there own. Everything I do creates heat.

Put that alternate flashing headlights in. My friend had an ex-police car and I pulled over another friend with it. Hilarious.

That's hilarious! I used to have fun with my 2003 Suburban Z71. It was all blacked out with a full cow catcher on the front and tinted windows. People couldn't get out of my way fast enough when speeding down the fast lane! :)

I just bought a 40mpg commuter to use for commuting to work, around, etc. Prices are gonna go up on these type of cars if gas prices hit $5 a gallon like they're saying. I still have the truck but just won't drive it daily.
