Are you changing your driving habits yet ?

. But with the gas prices, you could take trips to the store to buy small stuff you wouldn't think of buying unless you made a "round-trip" to multiple stores.

Uhhh, that's what the BACKPACK is for.:D

You do have a backpack don't you? LOL

The statistic that is out is that current gas prices will cost on the average person $68 dollars per month!

 we pay on average $50 a week for my dads truck, $40 a week for my moms van, and $30 a week for my sisters car, and that's IF we don't go anywhere far out of the norm. I realize it says "average person" and we're a family, but doesn't that # sound low? There's A LOT of people who drive a far distance to get to work. Or is everyone driving more fuel efficient cars then us?

Is that 68 dollars more a month? Or 68 dollars for the whole month? If it is for the whole month, that is impossible.

My wife and I are spending about $431 a month in gas now, and that is pretty much just to get back and forth to work. That is roughly $150 a month more than this time last year. :(

If it's a national average including all adults, they could've included all of the people who don't even have cars who take buses and trains to work (big cities:new york, LA, etc.). Lots of factors that come into play here, but I agree, 68 for 1 person is just way too low unless you drive a toyota prius 5 miles to work and back. Each of my parents drive around 25-30 miles per day. All of our gas is shell, we have a shell card and put it all on there, and it's been anywhere from $200-$500 a month since we got it (we got it approximatly a year ago?) Of course, it was a tad more during winter, but there's not that many shells that are trail accessable. (nearest one is probably 50 miles away by trail?.?.?)

I spend about $1500 a month on gas for company 1.4 company vehicals I had over$6000 in non deductable gas on one truck and$ 5000 on another truck. That is$ 11,000 of non deductable gas. I use the mileage method over actual expenses. Yes that is about $916 a month I eat, right off the top. You can not change accounting methods once you start with a method. What I am saying is gas cost/expense is now much higher than the mileage expense " right off" amount. Because of the huge increase in fuel. So Skylar I feel your pain.

Average for the whole month is what I was reading.

I spent $65 last month (1 tank) and usually around that each month unless I take a trip up nort. So I guess I'm average and it is possible.

Skylar, ya know if you quit your jobs it would be like getting a $431 month raise !

I just zipped from Ironwood to Northeast Illinois and back (370 miles for about $63 each way) Still not too bad but wish it was cheaper. I paid $3.84 in Delevan Wi. on my way back. A friend said he just paid $4.09. in Illinois

3) avoid idling for long periods
4) remove extra stuff from vehicle 100lbs can equal 1 to 2% fuel savings

I have an app on my Android phone called Gas Buddy. It searches the nearest gas stations (also sorts by price per gallon) and will tell you where the cheapest fuel can be found.

60mph? Puh! You obviously don't live in IL LOL. It is either as fast as the car in front of you will go or EXACTLY the speed limit or 5 mph under.

I canceled insurance and stopped driving my hauling truck. Driving just the dodge diesel now. My wife also is making less trips and buying more at a time. It has helped somewhat.
