Does anyone where a protective vest?

I've worn a TekVest for a number of years now. I'm a really big guy and the only downside is finding jackets which fit over it and my bod also. Yes, they can be slightly unwieldy when off-trail but that's a small price to pay for the extra protection from trail racers, etc. No system is foolproof but these provide the max protection possible AND as others have mentioned extra warmth for the torso.

Yes I do, I took advantage of the John Dee group purchase a few years ago. Tek Vest, I love it and wouldn't ride without it.

I can't convince my wife to use one though.

I got two comments on it this year, one in Mercer a guy asked me what I expect to hit.

The second Parkview in Twin Lakes asked about it and I let him try it on he said he wanted to get one.

37+ years of riding & I do not "wear" one. Not saying it is not an added measure of protection & I'm not saying anyone should not wear one, it's just never appealed to me & I don't feel compelled to wear one now. I have certainly had my share of pilot ejections over the years & thankfully have been fortunate to have escaped serious injury. I just try to be as safe as possible, sometimes sheet happens regardless.-Mezz

I wear one while trail riding and off trail. Does this make me "Ricky Bobby". I also stand up with a back and shovel. You always have to be on the look out for a roof that needs to be shoveled off.lol

I wear a TekVest all the time. For the two trips out west every year I also wear Thor Force Knee and shin guards. Both have saved me from injuries multiple times.

My wife has been wearing TekVest the last 3 years.

I have never wore one nover even tried one on and don't intend to ever buy one. Not saying they are not worth it as i am sure they help if needed, but I will take my chances. I think most injuries that result in high speed and death usually stem from neck and or head injuries. Might save a few ribs but wont protect your neck or head. Just my 2 cents, again not saying they are bad to wear or a waste of money, just not for me.

I have been wearing one for a long time and as others have stated, feels like something is missing if I do not have one on while riding.

Like most protective gear, they do not make you bullet proof, but can help to keep what would otherwise be an innocent event from being catastrophic.

In my opinion, money well spent for any rider.

I planned on buying one this year but wanted to try one on first to see how they fit, and planned to do that at a snowmobile show. I never got to a show and I didn't buy one. There aren't any retailers near where I live. Looks like Tek-vest is the most popular, but there is also one from SV-1 I see a lot. Any others to consider? Any dealers in the UP? I may be up there next weekend. I don't like that I don't have one, now that I have thought through how much it makes sense to have one.

^^^^ Hoosier, maybe you can find a vendor online that will accept returns without restocking fees. Order the two sizes that you think you might be, and keep the one that fits and send the other back. Both myself and my wife ride with them. They are nice and really help to block the wind.

It isn't just the ribs that are a concern. There is the potentially more dangerous issue of internal injuries. Again, some protection is better than none. I have to admit I take some kidding from a few when I put on my "gladiator" gear.

Hoosier, Check with SledSolutions. He will give you advice on size based on the info you give him and will work with you to get a vest you like.

Yeah I might have to do that next year if I can't get one ahead of time. Good job for the original poster to bring this up again. Easy to put it again if I don't think about it. 3 kids at home 5 and under makes you think a little sometimes...
