Does anyone where a protective vest?

The one thing I have a hard time understanding in this entire discussion is the negativity toward vest wearers by those who don't. Why should you care if we choose to wear one? It's not like we're trying to force it on you.

Why not promote saftey & let you know why protective gear is a good idea? You spend your money your way nobody can make you buy a protective vest but we can inform why we like protection. Protective gear has come a long long way in the past few years & is very affordable now with lots of different styles & brands available. Used to be tekvest & nothing else..... search check them out..... To me no harm no foul do what you want but be informed! :) Check out sixsixone to see some creative protection might change your mind.

You must have missed my original post......I wear a TekVest and have for a number of years........I was commenting on the negativity from people who don't wear one and must feel like we're trying to force it on them. It's kinda like bikers who don't wear helmets. You want to be an organ donor, have at it............

Where is the negativity? Just see the very few of us who don't where one say why we don't, and did not see anyone knocking the ones that do?

I haven't really gotten the negative vibe here.

I don't have a vest. Not sure I will buy one either. But I do appreciate this thread. Who knows, maybe I will decide its a good investment after I bounce my chest off the bars.

I wear one while trail riding and off trail. Does this make me "Ricky Bobby". I also stand up with a back and shovel. You always have to be on the look out for a roof that needs to be shoveled off.lol

LMAO on the roof comment! I currently wear my backpack with shovel all the time as I also keep my first aid kit/survival gear in the pack for mountain riding and my trail sled has no room for the first aid kit. So I get a few weird looks on the trail. But I have used my shovel to dig out a guy and his mini-van who tried to go down the trail...and I've used the saw (in the shovel handle) to clear downed branches over the trail. So with the skull graphics on my helmet (it was a gift for filming) I must look like a Ricky Bobby.... But I'm 51 and have been racing professionally for 31 years so I've had one of the original Saf-Jacs since then and now a newer model Saf-Jac. Its been standard gear for off the race track for at least 25 years. Won't ride without it!! Its saved me on and off the track several times. No its not from taking chances; stuff happens! As mentioned, it keeps the wind out and I feel naked if ever I tool around the field without it. I also started wearing the shoulder pads after taking one too many branch whips in the right arm from staying on my side of the trail trying to avoid the dufuses riding down the middle of the trail on blind corners...

Several guys in my group have found vests at Haydays for under $100. But should not be an issue. You got a $10 head/body, buy a $10 helmet...

Looking for a replacement for the Saf-Jac as it may need to be replaced one of these years. I like the zip up front/vest style. Don't care for the solid front models out there. Just haven't found one I like yet.

Came across the receipt for my TekVest, for the length of time I've had it, cost about $20 per year-cheap insurance!

Barkbuster, I like the $10 head/$10 helmet analogy, Honda had used that line for a while.

If you want one, keep a close eye on Ebay and Craigslist. I got mine for $90.00 on Ebay. Just had to take the Ski Doo patches off.
There are also lots of other options out there besides "Tekvest". Anything is better than nothing, IMO.

Seriously considering it as I sit here with a cracked rib from the last ride of the season.

Oh no, I think I'm gonna sneeze...

You are much nicer than I am. I go around cars stuck on the snowmobile trail and rooster tail some more snow on them if I can. Millions of miles of roads in this country and a guy has to drive his car on the one spot that we pay $50/year to help maintain so we can ride during our 2-3 month season? Drives me nuts...but I'm getting off topic. Sorry about that.

The guy probably was following the directions from his GPS?!

LOL. That could be it. I was following my GPS to what it claimed was a gas station in West Virginia one time and I wound up on a dead end street in a person's yard with a kid playing banjo and Ned Beatty squealing like a pig...
