Haydays 2011

I wasn't there, but it sounds like:

1. They screwed up logistics last year in the move to a new location which really messed up the event. Sounds like some of the problems were avoidable.
2. They have apologized for the problems.
3. They have put a plan together to address them.

What else do you want them to do? Personally, I would wait a year and see if things are improved before going back, but it seems like they are making an attempt to fix what happened last year.

What is the benefit to being a member of the sno-barrons besides getting to ride your faat A$$ around on a wheeler while everyone is walking through haydays.

I won't give the sno-barrons the time of day. I for one am supper happy with the deals at the outlaw grass drags in princeton, mn.

They have better deals, a better site, cheaper admission, and far nicer staff. Last year I calmly asked 4 different sno-barons where something was. I was given 3 different locations on the site on the other didn't even bother to stop thier conversation, clearly talking about the Twins was more important than helping a paying customer. From now on I will do everything I can to not give those communist pigs 1 red cent.

Thier arrogance is quite intolerable.

Never been there, never will. We have Nelson's and Novi. That's plenty. I never heard a happy swapper or visitor who went to Haydays. If your out there tell us the good of the event.

I've been to Haydays 5-6 times over the years, I have enjoyed it every time that I went. Never had any issues or problems, and always had a good time while I was there.

For the people who are still upset by last years event, really? You are still upset about it? Life is way to short to stay upset about something that happened almost a year ago. If you don't want to go this year, then don't go.

Yes, I'm still upset for spending $500 just to get there and having to wait 4 hours in a truck. 1 hour? no problem, but 4!!! Then, when you FINALLY got to park in a muddy field, you get to walk 3 miles there, and 3 miles back carrying all your parts! I had a good time while in there, but I won't be going back until these problems are fixed...

How in the world did you spend $500 to go there? Heck, I drove round-trip Wyoming from Indiana less than 2 months ago for about $350.

hotel=125, food for a family of 4=100-150, 600 miles round trip at 15 mpg (being generous) with gas at $3 a gallon =120 so now we're at almost $400. Then, add on the gas of the truck sitting there running for awhile before smartening up and shutting it off. Add on $15 (I believe) to park 3 miles away, $15 (i believe per person) to get into haydays. We're talking around $400-$450 minimum without me forgetting anything.

I first went to haydays in the early 90's and had a great time. For about 5 or 6 years in the mid to late 90's we had a few spots in the swap and sold lots of stuff for good money. I didn't go for a few years and went back last year. I went on Sunday and there was no line, we drove right in. I found a few deals on things I was looking for and had no problems. As far as them making money, I am sure that is what the main objective is for having the event. Our club has gotten grants for our trail system from them and we have sold raffle tickets on the 4 sled giveaway and they give us a great commission on the ticket sales with no risk to our club. I plan on going back this year and our club is going to sell the raffle tickets again if they have them available.

I get it. I thought you meant for you personally and I thought it was just for gas.

I went to the event both days last year. It was a big difference betweent the two days. Saturday was a nightmare. The officials were not helping with the traffic. They actually told us to turn around and go home. I expected troubles with the way the county dealt with the early concerns.

Sunday was awesome. Drove right in and parked close. The weather was good and the layout worked pretty decently. The OEMs were right on top of the hill with the vendors spread out pretty loosely. (The vendors can be moved closer together this year.) Many of the swappers were packing up pretty early on Sunday, but there were deals being made throughout the day. Some of the vendors were thrown into the swap area which seemed odd. Those vendors were fairly busy though.

The layout is a learning curve. One entrance was right off the highway, but no off site parking was officially approved? How would you ever use that entrance? The other entrance snaked around the dragstrip and pits. It was nice unless you picked up any large items, then you had the extra distance to carry your goodies.(Yes there were the atvs and trailers, but the pick up points were not as clear.)

I still think it is awesome to have a huge event centered on a sport we all love. People come from all over the country for this one event. It is the one place that you can see so many different aftermarket shops at the same time. I'm glad someone has the gumption to try and put it together.

This is "Princeton". It is another large swap meet - the swap is very large and the show is in every respect very much like Haydays but with about 1/2 the vendors. All the local vendors and most of the manufacturers attend Rum River but the out of state vendors usually prefer Haydays. If I had to guess I'd say Rum River attracts about 12,000 people and Haydays probably gets about 30,000-35,000. It is a great show that had been growing and improving every year.

Another good swap, is in Wausau. Biggest one in Wisconsin. You can drive right in, pay $5 to park right next to the gate, pay $5 per person to get in, walk the aisles for 2-3 hours, watch a few drags, and go home with used $75 C&A Pro Ski's with brand new 10" carbides, brand new mounts, and 2 brand new loops!
