Haydays 2011

We've been to Haydays most every year for the past 10-12 yrs. The old site had the same traffic issues as there was only 1 road you could take to get into it. We used to be backed up near Forest Lake every year. The big difference was the line moved faster because people were allowed to park in yards. If they allow that this year I think the traffic will be fine. We were lucky last year as we drove by there on Friday night and they were alrady having issues with getting vendors and swappers in. So the next morning when we came over from Taylors Falls and got stopped in traffic 5-6 miles away we immediately jumped on some back roads and popped out by the south parking area in 10-15 minutes. If we'd sat in that line we would have been there for hours though.

I do like the new site though, it was more spacious, it was nice to have the area where they did the jumping/etc... down in that low area so you could sit along the hillside and watch it. If they can get the traffic issues resolved, it'll continue to be a great time.

there were 3 ways in to the old hay days

OK, I stand corrected. But there was still 1 main road that ran by the site, just like the new site. The big difference was the amount of parking that allowed the line to move quicker. Again, if you knew the back roads into this yrs site, just like the back entrance into the old site, it was just as quick.
It'll be better this yr and we are looking forward to going again.

I went in the back way and sat for more then three hour to make it in after 8 am.The old site had two freeways 35/35w with in 5mile plus hwy 242. New site Hwy 95 and the back way its not going to get better IMO.

Never been there, never will. We have Nelson's and Novi. That's plenty. I never heard a happy swapper or visitor who went to Haydays. If your out there tell us the good of the event.

Had a great time last year, It was my first time to haydays, so I can't compare to previous years.

Was there in 2005. Can't find anything to complain about other than lodging being a premium. I'd say give the Sno-Barons a few years and they'll get the bugs worked out. Even the space shuttle had problems! lol. Drag Racing was the best I'd ever seen. The fastest sled builders want bragging rights on their concepts.

Oddly enough, they did not even want you to use Hwy 95 last year. City and county just did not want to accept the fact that there would be so many people going to the event. Saturday was a big ol bottleneck because of their inability to realize that reality. The Hwy 95 route was messed up even more by the fact that it made drivers go past the site and track back for parking.

favorite swapmeets?

When and where are your favorite grassdrags/swapmeets in the area(MN,WI,Mich,IA,IL)? How do they compare to Haydays and the Wausau grassdrags? I've been to the Wausau grassdrags a few times and the Haydays the first time last year. While we were as dissapointed as everyone else about the delay in getting in,the show was pretty impressive! Thanks

Hey guys, remember also, the 95 bridge over Interstate 35 was under construction, the county and the city prohibited parking in yards, and there was also some construction that impacted the back way in from the north. Construction is all done, I think they'll let land owners park vehicles in their yards and there will be more parking available at the site. The club that puts this on donates lotsa money to snowmobile clubs all over mn for trails, bridges, grooming etc.. It will run like clockwork this year!!!

Nope you can only park cars in your yard if you go get a 500$ permit.....this is something the snobarrons did when they moved......

The County has changed their permit process.Locals will be able to have parking and those that are interested can allow camping. The Sno-Barons have also arranged for parking to the East of the entrance and there will be parking to the North in the fields, plus to the South in the neighbor's fields. Those that want to "boycott" Haydays and stay home can do so. I would give it a try again this year and if it still doesn't work, well the decision has been made.
Last year's snafu was almost the perfect storm for what happened. The road construction, the rain Friday nite, and the limited parking due to the COUNTY's requirements for the parking permit.
Give it a shot,It can't be much worse than last year..

I also understand it is a 500 buck permit to let cars park in your yard so much for land owners rights.it was 500 last year to.when sitting for about 2 of my 4 hr last yr I talked with a farmer for about 1 hr who was told buy the city that if he let any one park in his yard ther would be a heafty ticket.he knew he could get 20 a car and was affrade of the fines and poss tax implacations from making money on agg zoned land with other than crops he clamed the citty wants more than anything to pull his agg tax and turn the farm in to residental and that would be more than 20X the cost in his tax I guess

Chisago county has changed the permit process and it will not be a huge price to pay for a permit. I heard they have close to 150 acres of parking this year, all 4 sides of haydays will have parking.

The permit is a requirement from the county that has always been there...even for the threshing show that is held right down the block.
The single entrance was a requirement put in place by the county because they thought they knew better than the Barons.
There are still multiple ways into the event, if you can read a map.
The track is made of blue clay, hauled in, at great cost, specifically for the track.
The event was in it's first year and rushed, due to the City of Columbus refusing to renew the permit primarily because of their own agenda, not anything the Barons did or didn't do.
The parking situation has grown to three times the size of last years.
The club is open to anyone who wants to support the sport, you just need a current member as sponsor. Find one at Haydays...they're not hard to spot and eager to help. EVERY member is REQUIRED to perform their share for the event.
They don't get rich doing this, in fact, most of the revenue goes right back into the next event and it's improvements...OR A CLUB. Check the website.

Firecatguy, your bull$#!% is getting too deep. Please refrain from spreading your manure around here as this place is fertile enough already and it's starting to stink. If you don't have the facts, don't make some of your own.
Who the #^(% are you to call anyone a fat pig in a place like this and why hasn't this entire thread been pulled already? Maybe you should quit wishing you were a Snobaron, grow some...and join their club already.
