Honeymoon Destinations?

OK, my season is over and it is time to start finalizing my wedding plans. We can't figure out where to do go for our honeymoon and are open to suggestions.

Musts
1. Nice beaches
2. Safe to wander around - outside of the resort area
3. Not overly expensive or have an all inclusive option
4. No more than 10 hours on a plane
5. A decent amount of activities (rains forests, scuba/snorkel, ruins, etc.)

Places we are considering

1. Costa Rica
2. Belize
3. St. Lucia
4. Bermuda

I only want to hear about places you have been and resorts you have at least visited. If someone raved about a resort and you feel it is worth mentioning that is fine too.

Thanks!

I sure wish I could give ya some destinations Cuzz, but, I have only been to Jamaica, and that was 16 years ago.

I guess I am going to St. Lucia Island April of 2011, but I think that is after your wedding. LOL.

St Martin. Caribbean island

try st. martin island, its in the caribbean. very friendly, speak english and french, the island is actually split into two sides, dutch on one and french on the other(nude beach), can go anywhere on the island, dont have to worry about being somewhere you shouldnt be. we had a great time there, and hopefully we can get back there some day. you can take boats to other islands in the area.

My wife and I got married in Jamaica at Grand Lido Negril. It's all inclusive so the scuba, snorkeling, everything is included. We went into Negril one day and walked the beach in both directions multiple times and felt very safe. But, that was 11 years ago now so it may have changed. Very fun though!

St Thomas - I know it not on your list, but check it out.

My wife and I took our honeymoon here http://www.bolongobay.com/ We loved it!

I'll give you the short story. We had a rather rough fight and landing in the rain, get a taxi with a flat tire, get to the hotel and I look at her and just start apologizing. The place was mostly outside (open air style) including the restaurant and bar. But then we get to are room and turn the TV on to check the weather and they say a Tropical storm had just missed us by like 100 miles and we were getting the side effects. Went to the bar at 3 pm had the best Voodoo Juice drink (the last time me ate was at our Wedding Dinner the night before (like 3 bites b/c of pictures etc, (Eat before hand)) Then woke up to this the next day

notice the sun starting to come out, then one hour later

and it only got better!

Only complaint was the beach in the pictures had a reef the took up most of the bay and it was very shallow, which made the beach have lots of broken shells etc. The hotel can recommend things to do but I would suggest not going to Coki Beach to many locals selling things.

We also did a day trip to the British V.I. and that was really nice as well. It was aboard the Limnos V. http://limnoscharters.com/Limnos/Limnos.html

Also there is a dive shop at Belongo, And we rented a Car and got to explore the island more than just taking taxis places.

We went to the Sandals at the Bahamas. Loved it and can't wait to go back someday. We went with one of the lower end packages - we didn't need a personal butler, etc. Just got an ocean view. We liked the Bahamas location because it's the largest Sandals location (more food options, etc.) and because it was the shortest flight. That turned out great because we were exhausted after all the wedding planning, festivities, etc. It is all-inclusive which is nice because you don't have to think about money the whole time. We're not big spenders or drinkers or anything, but we later went to a resort in Mexico that wasn't all inclusive, and it kind of stunk to pay 9 or 10 for a poolside drink. Another plus for the Sandals is that there are no kids there. Kind of nice for the honeymoon. Wife loves pools, sun and beaches, so she loved it there. We'll probably go back again someday with a couple other couples.

I sailed from Spain to St. Lucia a few years ago. St. Lucia was great, would fit your requirements listed. I would not hesitate to go back. Having seen a decent chunk of the Caribbean I would say that St. Lucia is a poster child for what the Caribbean is like, people, music, water, rum, beaches.
I also sailed to Bermuda (from Annapolis). Really interesting place, I mean it is stuck out there in the Atlantic all by itself. Different from the Caribbean as there is nothing else out there so the culture is sort of provincial. Very British, men in blue blazers, ties, Bermuda shorts, and black oxfords. I enjoyed it because it was so different, but I think I enjoyed St. Lucia more. Could also be that I like the Caribbean better in general. I dunno, it was like Bermuda was "huh, look at that!" but St. Lucia was "gimme a rum punch and a ham and cheese omelette and let's call it breakfast."
I know i'm rambling a bit, but the Caribbean islands have very mixed cultures and it shows. Steel drums, goats in the street, madman cab drivers. Bermuda was very pleasant and a good example of proper English civilization in the middle of the ocean...very clean, very civilized.

The Cayman Islands is one of our favorite spots. We had our honeymoon there 23 years ago and have been back 3 more times. Great snorkeling and scuba diving. Crime rate very low and snorkeling with the stingrays is a blast. We are headed to the Turks and Caicos in a couple of weeks. We have never been there before but heard it was nice. I can let you know how it is when I get back.

I really enjoyed Hawaii. It will hit the 10 hr mark exactly for flying time, but it's not bad.

We flew into Oahu and then island jumped using Aloha airlines..flights were cheap in 2003.

Just make sure to rent a car an drive around the islands..there is so many things to see and do. The volcano national park will take you all day if you do a little hiking, but I would make it so you stay there into the night. Then you can see the lava glowing as it is running down the mountain or through a hole that it opened up in the middle of nowhere.

If you want to just hang out and be away from civilization go to Kauai.

I have also heard good things about Sandals resorts in the Caribbean. On Jamaica I don't think it is recommended that you drive or walk away from the resorts. Although there are like 4-5 sandals resorts on the island and you can get bused over to each of them.

Check out Playa Del Carmen Mexico. Been there a few times, and stayed at the RIU Playa Car and Riu Tequila. The beaches are some of the best in the world. Great fun during the day, and plenty to do in the evening. We took our honeymoon down there. It was the wifes first time there. She loved it, and keeps talking about getting back down there.

when is the honeymoon ?that has allot to do with where you want to be I got a hurricane in Cabo for my honeymoon kinda fitting way to start the last 14yrs.Dominican Republic is a dump don't do that one. I would do a Costa Rica trip but not a resort you can sit on your *** and look at watter when you are old do a adventure tour.did one a few yrs back stayed in 4 towns 5 diff nights rafting canopy zip line horseback hot springs took group on small bus from town to town and to events.but I am a high strung guy that just cant sit on my duff and look at watter for more than a Hr.and always remember a topless beach always sounds like a good Idea till you get there and you have to see the overwhelming amounts of old fat floundering around like beached whales and the european guys in the banana hammocks

Just got back from Playa Del Carmem 3 days ago. We had great weather with temps in the 80's. They had just finished reconstructing the beaches so they were about 10 times bigger than they were 3 years ago when I was there. In case your wondering the beaches had been somewhat washed away from all the storms over the past few years. We stayed at the Riu palace, so it was all inclusive. You would have a great time with lots of activities to do.

we went to st. lucia for our honeymoon and it was great, can't wait to go back in a cpl years. we stayed at the sandals grand st. lucnian, they have 3 resorts on the island and a shuttle bus that will take you to any of them for free, i realy liked the all-inclusive. the trips we did we set up thru the resort, never realy wandered around the island by ourselves but when we were in an big open market we never felt in danger or anything. the local people were very nice. the resort offers all the watersports right on the beach. also they have like 4 or 5 bars & quite a few restraunts in each resort.(man i drank way to much!! lol)
skylar you will have a blast!!

I am getting married in Belize next January. My Fiance picked it out and has been there before. I have not, would rather visit a snowier destination. However, I think you would definetly enjoy the island.
