dang skylar, nice finds. I wish I were ready to buy because I am heading west to the Big Horns in 2 weeks from yesterday and gotta drag the yammi out there. We have 7 guys and need one more , wanna go? Anyways, the yammi does perform well as I have it, obviously I will set it up properly for the correct elevation. Kip @ Pats is working with me on that. Thanks for the effort looking those up, I appreciate it very much, good finds. I had been thinking a M would be more suitable but not really sure about it. There are times when the snow is not good for off trail and I was a little concerned if the M would be okay on the trail. My buddy with the xfire rides the sled in all situations like he stole it and it's been flawless, would that be the case if I did trail ride the M when conditions do not permit off trail.

Fatcatm thanks for the link, possibly good deals out there

Hey Skylar. I need a honest opinion from you. I know you have an RMK and have many sleddin friends. Can you give me some comparison info on the RMK's and M's in your opinion. Right now I simply know I won't be getting a doo or a yammi. Poo is a possibility but I need to ride one again. I rode a few weeks ago with Dan Healy and he offer me to ride his pro rmk and I declined for some stupid reason, probably because I knew it was way out of my price range so why bother. Do you have a opinion on the best years for rmk's, motors etc,,,,

Lenny, if you're serious about an M hold out for the 141". I love my 153" for out west but am starting to realize it is overkill for the UP. If I could buy any sled right now it would be a 2011 Crossfire 141".

As far as RMK's, personally I would get any RMK 06 and up, if it is the 600, or the 700. And I don't mean the 755cc 700, and I know someone will jump in and say that 755 is awesome, but it is based on the 900, and that thing is a pain in the azz to work on when something does go wrong. I know that some guys have had good luck with the cfi 800, and some guys have had no luck with it. If it was MY money, I would not get the cfi 8, 08-10. Unless it is a smoking good deal, and it has a pc 5 on it.

As far as boonydocking, and sidehilling, carving, I think the M series and the IQ RMK's are very very close, with a slight nod toward the M. Gas mileage hands down goes to the M, the 800 anyways, my 600 RMK gets about 7 when playing hard in deep snow, on the hard pack trails, 10, and that is when I ride it easy like. My brothers M8 uses easily 2 gallons less than I do. On the trails, with bumps, I prefer my RMK over my brothers M, mine just rides smoother, his seems harsh to me.

I am not saying that the edge chassis RMK's are bad, but the IQ is so much easier to lay over and carve with, IMO.

I think for what you want to spend, an M or crossfire is what you need. If a 136 crossfire ends up being not long enough, you could always stretch it out.

The last 3 days I was out off trail riding with my buddies and we sometimes switch sleds to get a feel for the other guy's sleds. I realized how much I like the feel of the crossfire. The sled I rode was an 06 xfire 700 stretched out to a 144. It has great hookup in the pow and perfectly balanced. My other buddy has a 2010 600 summit 146 600 etek. Lot's good to say about the sled but did not have the balance and ease to handle feeling. I am sure there could be some tweaks to the feel of the sled but there is no way it can equal the xfire or an M. Actually my 2000 mtn max felt better pounding through the woods, balanced better than a 2010 summit. If I had to ride all day I would prefer my mtn max over the summit. No doubt the doo is a fine machine, that sled sips fuel, incredible throttle response, best seat from a stock machine. I've made the decision to buy a cat. I wish I had more time on a poo because they feel nice right out the box also.

Does cat have a 141or 144 in a stock machine. I'll probably be able to only afford $3500-4000 so looks like a 2006-7

Is there a cat motor to stay away from, some years better that others?

I was on a 06 Crossfire with a 2" Challenger, clutching and a mod airbox the first time we met!!! Fun sled indeed but it will not hold a candle to an M in the bush!!! Thinking a New Pro RMK for me next year... Will have to see!!!

Greg,

I remember when we crossed paths up past TL. I was killing myself to get around on my old heap of junk PML, what a beast. You were with Hiawatha Al that day. We were taking a break and then we hear sleds coming a ways away. We watched you guys tear up some serious terrain, that's a steep area. I was amazed at what you guys were climbing, actually after seeing you guys doing what you were motivated me to push harder but not much was gonna happen on a underpowered, heavy, mind of it's own sled like mine.

Have you been riding the hawk much this season?

Based on what you are doing the Crossfire will work fine. However if it were me I would look for a M with the 141. I had a Crossfire set up for the mountains and it would not even touch what my buddys M 141 did in the deep stuff.

On another note, someone said to stay away from the 1000 motor. Why is that? I have a M1000 and haven't had any issues since day one. It will run rich and bog if you don't stay on it hard, but that isn't really much of an issue.

Thought I seen on craigslist for the U.P a guy had a 05 M6 141 with 700 miles for 4700 a week or two ago. I love mine perfect Mi boondockers
